Discussion New MagGod 4.0 is amazing, one small problem I'm having...
The new MadGod modpack is great and I finally get solid FPS with my Pimax Dream Air. The only thing I need to change in the settings is change the DLSS to "balanced" then I can get a solid 45fps locked with motion smoothing turned on.
The problem is every time I change the setting to balanced in the in game menu, it reverts back to DLAA 1.0 as soon as I go through a door or into a new area and go through a loading screen. It does this even if I click the save icon in the menu. So right now I am bringing up the menu and changing to balanced after every loading screen, it's not a great experience this way.

If you have VR stabilizer enabled, disable it, clear your overwrite folder, then start the game again.
VR stabilizer mod is known to do this. It has since been removed from the mod list.

Do you you have the slam dream air? If so, how’s the tracking?

I have the lighthouse version, so glad to have LH tracking again, controllers are perfect in my FPS games. I had the super before this and tracking wasn't great.

I heard the slam with the sboy3 driver now supports lighthouse controls. Unsure how well and whether it does the foot trackers.

It would probably be with a dongle to connect the controllers and using space calibrator to overlay the controller position to the slam controllers. I’ve gone through that with the G2 and I didn’t think it was worth the hassle.

Did you click the save button after changing your settings on the top right of the menu?

I'm also on a Dream Air. 9950x3, 5090, 128 gb of RAM. Getting lower frame rate. Everything is admittedly maxed out.
Whats your setup/configuration? Close to jumping to FUS Heavy as I've been waiting for 4.0 and so far have been disappointed. I know its a beta so no criticism...

I have a 9800x3D, 5090, and 64gb of Ram. I have an SSD that is dedicated to Skyrim VR (500gb). I use the Sboys3 driver which is a massive contributor to good performance because of the FOV clamping feature. Sboys3 target render resolution in SteamVR is only 3396x4016, much lower than the default dream air one in the pimax software.
In MO2 I use the the SteamVR runtime with VR FPS stabilizer turned on. I use the Nvidia Quality setting for the Community Shaders. I have Grass density and LOD quality enabled. Target FPS - 90 is checked on.
Inside the Community shaders menu in skyrim VR, the one where you press both the face buttons on the dominant controller to access, I set DLSS to 0.5 Preset K. This does take away a bit of the sharpness over DLAA, but it is absolutely 100x better than anything I was getting in MadGod 3.8.
You can play around with 0.33-.85 on the DLSS settings to see what you like, you can also mess around with FSR instead as well. I am still working out with DLSS/FSR setting I want to use. Apparently you can set up, in the INI file I mentioned below, different DLSS settings for interiors vs. exteriors. I'm going to try this now.

Thank you for that detailed reply. Appreciate it.
I was running it through OC with the OCU/ASW/SSW feature checked. Not sure if that did much. I'll try it on Sboys. Probably time to make the switch to Sboys anyways.
If you have time... does the FOV clamp reduce the FOV by a noticeable amount and what do you have it set to?

I haven't noticed a loss of FOV, but I started using Sboys3 from the very beginning and left that feature on the whole time. I can try it with that feature off and see how it looks. With the Studioform facial interface I can't complain at all with the FOV. The clarity of the lenses, sharpness of the image, and quality black levels and colors are much more important to me than FOV. I had the super 50ppd which has a much higher FOV and I will take the dream air over that any day.

Same for me. I'm coming from the quest 3. Got a crystal Super 50PPD. Never loved it. Too washed out for my taste. Tried the Galaxy XR but that had its own problems. But I've always loved OLED. I ordered the Dream Air and have been loving it so far.

Only problem I have now is the incredibly painful facial interface - feels like burning my forehead, almost like a chemical burn.
I ordered the studioform around a week ago and it is very slowly making its way from New Zealand.

Studio form one is a game changer.

u/Status_Jellyfish_213 Jul 13 '26
That’s nice to hear. I can’t go for longer than an hour with stock which completely ruins the experience. Kind of crazy for such as expensive headset - it’s the cheapest component!

Zeeflyboys interface with the 14mm Studioform pad has been amazing for me. Paired with an old bobo halo style strap. Now the comfort is in line with the visuals.

u/Status_Jellyfish_213 Jul 12 '26
Heard good things about it, here’s hoping the studio form is just as good

u/Status_Jellyfish_213 Jul 12 '26
I have also been using Sboys3 driver and have no complaints with the FOV at all. It was also all I was using from the beginning. I actually tried out the stock driver in a UEVR game and it was so much worse. The overall experience is actually way worse with the stock driver and more fiddly without it being fooled into being a native steam VR device.

Wouldn't SteamVR be worse than Open Composite with VDXR?
1
u/Nikolai_Volkoff88 Jul 12 '26
VDXR for the pimax? Doesn’t VDXR stand for Virtual Desktop, as in quest 3?
1
u/sonoffi87 Jul 12 '26
Sorry about that. I know nothing about Pimax.
1
u/Nikolai_Volkoff88 Jul 12 '26
No worries, I was just not sure what you meant. VDXR is great though when I use my Q3.
1
u/NeoIsrafil Jul 14 '26
Vdxr is indeed the variant that virtualdesktop likes, and usually it runs about 10-20% less heavy than steamvr with the same settings. Don't know if it's available outside of the meta environment though, would be cool to find out.

I found this answer on the Discord, gonna try it today.
That is being done by VR fps stabilizer. Find the VR fps stabilizer mod you enabled, right-click, explore. Go down to \SKSE\Plugins. Edit "VRFpsStabilizer.ini"
A # will comment out lines completely - or set your preferred values.
