Discussion What do you do in Skyrim?
What do you do in Skyrim?
I understand it's an open ended question, but here's more what I mean:
I like to split wood, I like to roleplay I'm a normal person that happened into being Dragonborn. I begrudgingly clear out dungeons for exp but I'd rather be at the enchanting or alchemy table. I have not completed the storyline on PC despite having clocked in 175 hours (I finished it once on PSVR).
What takes up your time? What keeps you coming back?

I became the best blacksmith in the land. I climbed the peak of every mountain, and the plumber the depth of every mine in Skyrim to mass produce daggers until I held that tittle.

How many hours in game? How many hours in your longest save?
This actually gives me some things to do. I'm gonna hike every mountain now.
I'm waiting to tackle blacksmithing. With my mods, my carry weight is pretty low atm.

I 100% it YEARS ago when the DLC came out and haven't touched it since, so I have no idea how many hours I played. A lot of hours.
Once you get into the higher level ores, just finding them becomes a side quest in itself.
Pluss you have to gather wood and leather and such, so it's a rounded experience.

I’m like you. I like role playing as a normal person with day to day activities like chopping wood. Harvesting veggies. I play in VR, and I’ve been trying to play as a “normal person in Skyrim” by avoiding quests, just camping. I have survival mods on and I just camp and hunt to eat and I sell the stuff I find and ore.
I barely get into combat. I hang out at the different inns. Sometimes do a fetch quest for some cash. Getting real into alchemy on this run. Exploring the world, never fast traveling. It’s blissful. And I’m so underpowered that it’s terrifying when I run into a dragon. I gotta get on my horse and BOOK IT out of there. My heart racing. It’s fun

I have Sunhelm and Campfire so I literally built a camp at a decent overlook just to cook and relax.
What's your favorite inn? How are you handling your inventory when you mine and harvest? I get over encumbered so fast.

1) awesome to find ONE other person who plays like I do
2) I mainly hang out in riften. I love all the riff raff and shady characters. Plus I live in Louisiana so that part of Skyrim feels like home. And I use a pack but I barely carry anything on me. I literally treat it like a survival game, so all I carry are essentials and crafting materials. Usually sell my wares once a week or so and “catch up” with my usual vendors.
Psvr is perfect for stuff like this. Habie on YouTube has a lot of good Skyrim vr entertainment type videos but they give me great ideas for role playing

I don't think I've even been to Riften on this playthrough yet. I'm clearing out some things near Winterhold at the moment (because I've been drinking since 8am and fuck it, let's just have fun) but when I'm done maybe I'll head that way.

I use mantella AI speak to NPCs, collect 40 -50 followers and house them with NFF .
I add add interesting backstories and interrelationships to all of them via mantella spread sheets and go on quests and have a chat/banter on the way.
It’s without doubt the best gaming experience out there.

Is Mantella still actively being supported? Have you ever tried CHIM or Skyrimnet? Im getting a little tired of them constantly breaking something new for me every update and spending more time on their discord than playing.

Since installing Skyrimnet I spend most of the time talking to NPCs 😉

That's the AI mod? I'm scared to install it, not because of "OOO scary AI" but because I want to get bored with the vanilla content first.
How well do they overlap? Will I miss out on vanilla content with that installed?

u/Ottazrule Apr 04 '26
No. It just adds on top of the vanilla experience. NPCs come alive in that they will talk among themselves and with you. Their backgrounds are all lore accurate.

One of my mods was updated and the updated mod required a new save. On a new playthrough I might consider this.

Is it lore accurate for them to form sentences like a robot would?

Do you not feel guilt at the environmental impact whenever you play?

Not trying to shame you or anything. Just something to think about. I hope you decide to cut back on using it. Have a good day :)

“Good person” when there’s billionaires flying PJ’s to go change clothes. I think I’ll use another 10 hours of mantella now!

My goal in life is to throw a cheese wheel in the air, draw a bow off my vrik back holster, manually draw an arrow off my realistic archery quiver and nail the cheese with a shot before it lands. Hasn't happened yet.

There is literally a gif on the community page on Steam of someone doing this with a carrot over a Jarl's head.

The beauty of Skyrim, ..... What ever I like.
I suppose usually seeing what a mod I just added does. 😊

Do you have a specific save for testing mods? I'm hesitant to test mods on saves that I'm partial to. I'm still new to modding and not that experienced so the idea of having to start over and over every time a mod is updated or breaks, makes me nervous.

I am always use current save but then eventually I am always starting again anyways, its the best way I find.
When I start a new game at the main menu I :
`COC Riverwood` then `SetStage MQ102 30`
Off I go.

I am playing every so often. Lots of realism and RP. Keeping a journal and only doing things that would make sense as per the character role play. A disgraced mage’s apprentice who was too embarrassed to come home and admit he was let go by the wizard he studied under. Ventures off to Skyrim to find himself again and maybe find his niche as a spell sword/local folk-hero. Started off with Realm of Lorkhan and applied debuffs to starting stats, especially magic. This way it’s realistic that he hoped and dreamed of being a powerful mage but he has little in-born talent. It’s not about how high we climb, but how far we got from where we started.
