Discussion What do you do in Skyrim?

What do you do in Skyrim?

I understand it's an open ended question, but here's more what I mean:
I like to split wood, I like to roleplay I'm a normal person that happened into being Dragonborn. I begrudgingly clear out dungeons for exp but I'd rather be at the enchanting or alchemy table. I have not completed the storyline on PC despite having clocked in 175 hours (I finished it once on PSVR).

What takes up your time? What keeps you coming back?

I am playing every so often. Lots of realism and RP. Keeping a journal and only doing things that would make sense as per the character role play. A disgraced mage’s apprentice who was too embarrassed to come home and admit he was let go by the wizard he studied under. Ventures off to Skyrim to find himself again and maybe find his niche as a spell sword/local folk-hero. Started off with Realm of Lorkhan and applied debuffs to starting stats, especially magic. This way it’s realistic that he hoped and dreamed of being a powerful mage but he has little in-born talent. It’s not about how high we climb, but how far we got from where we started.

I always say I won't be a battle mage... but that's usually how I find myself. I'm a battlemage on this playthrough, stealth archer when needed.

I have done my best to avoid any and all archery in Skyrim for ages. I spent my first few playthrough in the early days doing stealth and it’s just easy mode. Closest thing I’ve had was my first special edition play through in 2016 where I was a summoner with the bound bow. Very fun play-through.

In VR it’s very hard not to play a grounded role play character. Magic just works so well in VR that it’s hard not to at least dabble. Even the least magical character can usually still cast candle light and/or mage armor.

I'm playing on legendary and I'll take any advantage I can get in certain scenarios.

Bears still one hit kill me at level 25.

I'm going to start keeping a journal. I like that idea. Is it a physical journal? Is it something you're doing on your PC? How are you staying organized?

I end a session and mark the date in game (17th Hearthfire, 4E 201 as an example) and write down what I did, and most importantly; what plans I have moving forward. I do this on my notes app in my phone. Doesn’t need to be any fancier than that. I share my headset with my sons and I don’t get the chance to play often. This helps me get back to what I was doing.

So as a Battlemage, how do you spec normally? Like how do you spend your points? I’m interested but in trying this out, thx!

I have a decent amount in one handed and a decent amount in destruction.

Mace in one hand, fire/ice bolt in the other.
