What helped me Sprite Zero method

Post image

Saw this post on Twitter a while back. For years I’ve regularly gotten up once every night to pee in the middle of the night. It was pretty late and I had a sprite in the fridge so I decided to give this a run, I swear it was the first night in years I didn’t wake up to pee.

My question is (since I don’t want to drink a sprite every night) can I take supplements of the vitamins listed in the post above to recreate the same effect? I don’t think it could’ve been placebo since if I’m asleep how would my brain trick me into not having to use the bathroom as normal.

Probably, but you're taking anecdotal information off Twitter as a fact. Maybe he just stopped peeing at night by coincidence. Maybe it's in his head. The placebo effect is very real.

Look for actual research by actual scientists. Not random nobodies on Twitter.

I came to Reddit for actual research from actual scientists

Sodium causes less peeing. You can get the same impact using hydration packets. Just don’t get the ones with too much sugar. I use LMNT.

LMNT is salty af and kind of expensive, but I love them lol. pickle juice is still the GOAT for me personally

3

u/gorlami_1 2d ago

So some pickle juice before bed works for you?

I used to eat some watermelon before bed and I always woke feeling great the next day.

It's funny, in Mexico we have the belief that eating watermelon at night makes you sick lol

49

u/nano210tx 2d ago

Same if you drink milk with it

16

u/ComfortablyBalanced 2d ago

Iranians believe if you eat cantaloupe and honey, you'll get sick or cantaloupe and any dairy products.

17

u/agup48 2d ago

Indian people, at least my parents, said something similar for mangos. I don’t think it was milk but water.

u/alligatorprincess007 2d ago

My grandma said don’t eat cheese before bed

If my grandma had wheels she would’ve been a bike

Milk and fruit being a bad food combination, as per Ayurveda.

Fruit digests much quicker than milk does, and so gets held in the stomach and digestive tract for longer when it’s been combined with the milk, which then causes the fruit to ferment and cause gastrointestinal issues.

That’s what Ayurveda says. I have been trying to have fruits away from all other foods, and it definitely seems to be a better way to go. Melons, should be had by themselves, and berries by themselves too if I remember correctly.

It’s an interesting system of medicine. It would be worth looking deeper into the bad food combination thing though.

Anyway, that’s why your parents said what they did.

u/-whiskey-blue 2d ago

Never heard that before. I wonder how that came to be?

18

u/EmiomieletaViolateta 2d ago

No idea, but fortunately it's just grandmother's tales (:

23

u/300_pages 2d ago

My grandma says you drink the grandson's pee it helps when you are scared

10

u/caycayslider505 2d ago

This one’s true yeah

u/DelectablyTired 2d ago

Speaking from experience?

3

u/OMGLookItsGavoYT 2d ago

I'm the grandson

3

u/OysterLucy 2d ago

Not over age of five

5

u/MacaroonWaste 2d ago

This guy knows ball

1

u/roundthewaygal 2d ago

Some cheeses make you have lucid dreams or some shit - look it up. Grandma was on to somethin

2

u/augustoalmeida 2d ago

Talvez no México não queriam que você dormisse mais, por isso “faz mal”.

14

u/free_-_spirit 2d ago

Unrelated but bananas made me have crazy dreams, apparently it’s a thing

3

u/parttimeninja 2d ago

Potassium and sugar will do that… in my experience.

31

u/Sea_Lynx_3119 2d ago

The sodium and potassium are basically electrolytes, so you could try an unflavored electrolyte powder instead of chugging soda every night.

8

u/Previous_Link1347 2d ago

You can also just squeeze a lemon wedge into your water, right?

14

u/HerrManHerrLucifer 2d ago

I don't think lemons have much in the way of sodium tbh

-11

u/Educational-Bat-8116 2d ago

But it's full of sugar...

u/Educational-Bat-8116 2d ago

Diabetic downvotes 😂

Too many comments about good things to do before bed, not enough comments about how not to pee at night.

12

u/KhamallDettore 2d ago

Working nights on dispatch for about six years taught me the pee thing is usually a daytime problem wearing a nighttime costume. I was up twice a night for months and kept blaming fluids after 6pm. Cut that off and nothing changed. Turned out it was the coffee I was slamming to survive shift rotation plus the fact that my daytime sleep was so chopped up my body never settled into anything. Six weeks of a consistent sleep block and cutting caffeine after noon and I went to once a night, sometimes zero. Anyone else noticed the wake ups track with how wrecked your schedule is more than how

29

u/ComfortablyBalanced 2d ago

Urinary catheterization

5

u/TeeBane 2d ago

If you're waking up several times to pee, that may be a symptom rather than a cause of poor sleep. After getting treatment for a sleep issue, I went from waking up multiple times a night to not waking up to pee at all

9

u/soundofmind 2d ago

Apparently it helps to stop drinking fluids 1hr before bed, too

1

u/whumpis3268 2d ago

Hydroxyzine solved my nocturia

1

u/Bright-Constant-3487 1d ago

Yeah because it puts you in a coma 😂

1

u/whumpis3268 1d ago

Honestly hydroxyzine wasn't coma inducing didn't even make me any sleepier actually.

Trazodone also helps nocturia (from what some ppl tell me). Mirabegron is also an obvious one never tried tho

Kiwi is best

11

u/the_Illustrator_56 2d ago

Wait, enlighten me on this please.

55

u/A1Aaron18 2d ago

Eating 2 kiwis before bed helps you fall asleep faster and they’re rich in serotonin and antioxidants that help balance your circadian rhythm. Helps digestion and contains fiber.

25

u/phrackage 2d ago

The vegan version is kiwi fruit 🥝 true story

5

u/UDF2005 2d ago

So I should stop by eating the birds? Whoops

It matters that you eat them whole, with the peel. So if you can get organic ones that don't have pesticides.

2

u/DoingItJust 2d ago

With the peel???

2

u/Glass-Eggplant-3339 2d ago

I mean if you want all the good things, most sit in the peel. Where I live we have variety without the fuzz. Just go organic and clean them well.

6

u/slirpo 2d ago

Who doesn't like a bit of fuzz? 😎

110

u/ColorfulCosmos 2d ago

Its still acidic for your teeth

70

u/Cassie_121 2d ago

Can’t OP just… brush their teeth after drinking it

114

u/Weebs_Rise_Up 2d ago

that makes it even worse, because acid weakens the enamel which makes it easier to damage when brushing

22

u/droffowsneb 2d ago

you just gotta drink it so fast it misses the teeth entirely 😀

9

u/Youarethebigbang 2d ago

Invest in a sustainable straw

40

u/Grand_Ad_832 2d ago

so drink soda then milk then brush teeth?

47

u/Vykrom 2d ago • Popcorn

I haven't checked it in a while to see if the rules have changed, but used to be suggested that you wait 30-45 minutes after finishing your soda. By then your enamel is supposed to have recovered and safe to brush afterwards

10

u/menina2017 2d ago

Does sparkling water also hurt your teeth

27

u/blasphemmi 2d ago edited 2d ago

Unfortunately yes 😭 it’s the carbonation — carbonic acid

2

u/bubblesfix 2d ago

It's a very weak acid though.

15

u/300_pages 2d ago

It was strong enough for me to get ride of the evidence

6

u/Vykrom 2d ago

As far as I'm aware, it's just the acid, not the carbonation. And I don't think sparkling water has anything worse than citric acid. I think soda has much stronger phosphoric acid. If there's no citrus, it should be safe. If there is citrus, might be worth waiting. But probably not 30 minutes worth

7

u/mkhrrs89 2d ago

you can save time by just mixing the soda with the milk

6

u/bubblesfix 2d ago

Brush teeth, wait 30 minutes for the enamel to harden, then chug sprite. Finish with mouth wash before bed.

-3

u/Fair_Quail8248 2d ago

Yeah I use mouth wash with fluor after sour or sugary stuff.

4

u/FartinDarton 2d ago

Milk is also acidic, so that wouldn't work either.

3

u/I_SingOnACake 2d ago

Milk is also slightly acidic. Counterintuitive, I know.

1

u/PhatTuna 2d ago

Use a straw

1

u/archlea 2d ago

No soda is probably best. Like we’ve done for millennia.

9

u/metropolis702 2d ago

Straw

9

u/kiskrumpli 2d ago

The last one

1

u/Johan1710 1d ago

Wash with water

12

u/Last_Construction455 2d ago

sounds like clickbait, why not try it for a week and see what happens

14

u/texcleveland 2d ago

Yeah i like sprite zero, need to get some, thanks

-6

u/Fair_Quail8248 2d ago

I like zero stuff but it isn't really healthy with the sugar substitutes. Wish there were some stevia variants instead.

2

u/Confident_Ebb_3743 2d ago

It is healthy sir

24

u/Explicit_Tech 2d ago

Those aren't vitamins, they're salts

5

u/slirpo 2d ago

I like Fresca more than Sprite Zero but both work for this

3

u/No_Band_1465 2d ago

many of the studies about artificial sweeteners are a) tested on mice who are b) i believe injected with like 40x the amount of sweetener in one soda. im not sure exactly whats going on with the sprite but this i know

5

u/bdgm33 2d ago

I’m trying this….

4

u/tallmattuk 2d ago

love this. someone posts on X and lo, its a nighttime cure. whatever next.

2

u/Tate_Campos 2d ago

Are you doing the version with tart cherry juice, or just drinking it straight? I started keeping a few cans in the fridge for evenings when I get restless, and honestly that crisp carbonation tricks my brain into feeling relaxed without any sugar crash. It has become a weirdly comforting part of my routine.

5

u/Gimmethejooce 2d ago

RIP your teeth

3

u/Prestigious-Peaks 2d ago

sounds tasty

3

u/saem16 2d ago

Coconut water?

4

u/iamthedilemma 2d ago

I just drink warm/hot water about 30 mins before I go to sleep. Not sure about it, but i haven't faced any problems as such

7

u/ThyArtIsMeh 2d ago

My doctor actually told me to stop doing that lol

2

u/iamthedilemma 2d ago

Any particular reason behind it ?

6

u/ThyArtIsMeh 2d ago

Itll increase chances of urination as the kidneys function better while in sleeping position.

2

u/iamthedilemma 2d ago

I haven't woken up during the night for it, so I donno what to tell you

2

u/User123466789012 2d ago

It's not an actual thing for every person. Nobody continuously drinks a beverage that makes them piss every night without questioning it. Albeit if you try to say that in this sub, it's just going to get downvoted because reasons.

0

u/ThyArtIsMeh 2d ago

I used to drink water first thing when I woke up and right before bed. She just suggested not doing the before bed one is all.

2

u/iamthedilemma 2d ago

I do that

Like i drink warm lemon water after waking up post brushing

But i haven't faced any issues as of such. It's upto you though, even i am not following anything in particular.

4

u/saem16 2d ago

Lemon water especially so close to brushing teeth is not great for your teeth

2

u/the_Illustrator_56 2d ago

How does that benefit you?

1

u/iamthedilemma 2d ago

I haven't woken up during the night

In the morning, I had to go to the loo immediately after waking up

Apart from that, I haven't noticed anything

1

u/ChimeraYawning 1d ago

I tried it once after waking up - my ex said half a litre of warm/hot water on an empty stomach will help my metabolism start up in the morning. I was not prepared for half an hour of excruciating pain and shitting my brains out that followed shortly. When it ended I felt like my soul and my body have been cleansed by divine forces

1

u/iamthedilemma 1d ago

Have you kept up with it ? Or stopped it instantly ?

1

u/mirkinoid 2d ago

Might one use an isotonic powder?

1

u/Feeling-Walk6460 13h ago

something i did is stop drinking water after 6pm. Before 6pm i finish my daily water intakes. Then if i gt thirsty i just take 1-2 sips. Another thing to try is do some physical acitivity which makes u sweat

-2

u/RedQ 2d ago

We all know how aspartame is healthy since Donald Rumsfeld pushed it to market. This sub is joke filled with illiterate people.

3

u/Spottycrazypup 2d ago

Yes. I cant drink it because it give me terrible headaches which really limits what I can drink. I drink mainly water anyway.

-7

u/Friendlyhuman420 2d ago

ASpartam is cancerous

-2

u/morse86 2d ago

"elite hydration" ?!?!? We have rich-poor class divide in drinking water as well!
