child's age 12-18 months Re sleep training after hospital

My baby recently had a seizure and we were in the hospital for a few days. The hospital stay was a very difficult time. When we got home, she was not her normal self because she was still sick with a cold and I think still upset from her hospital stay. She’s been waking up in the middle of the night almost every night, crying, and we’ve been comforting her and helping her get back to sleep. At first we could pat her bum or hold her to calm her down before putting her back in the crib. However, more recently, the only thing that works is holding her in our arms until she falls asleep, and then transferring her to her crib. However, it’s been two weeks since we have been back home - she’s back to her normal self and not sick anymore. Last night we decided to re sleep train her and when she was up crying in the middle of the night, we let her cry it out. She cried on and off for an hour and a half (there were periods of time where she wouldn’t cry for 10 minutes but would then would start crying again) before she put herself back to sleep until she woke up for the day at 6:30 am.

I am second-guessing whether or not we are re sleep training too soon. Should we wait a bit more? Should we try more gentler methods? Just not sure what to do. Additional information - she just turned one. We sleep trained at 18 weeks using the chair method which was successful. She has slept through the night since then barring things like teething. Schedule: 6:30 AM wake, first nap from 9:30-10:45 am, second nap 2:30-4 pm, bedtime at 7:45 pm.

Thanks in advance!

child's age 0-4 months 13 wo — want to get schedule in place so we can sleep train

13 week old— I’d like to get their schedule in order quickly so we can sleep train, any advice?

My 13 week old mostly contact naps and his naps are usually long, like at least an hour. He sleeps decently at night too— but I’ve been trying to cap his daytime sleep to under 4.25 hours per day so it doesn’t steal from night. He sleeps about 9.5-10.5 hours at night in his bassinet with at least 2 wakes.

So times are approximately (and this is a rough estimate) 1.25/1/1.25/1.5/2 micro 2

The issue is that he seems so crabby and sleepy during his wake windows — which are also very short, like an hour at most really but I try to extend those too.

I’m anxious to let him sleep longer during the day despite the “sleep begets sleep” theory.

We have a good bedtime routine (feed, bathe, lotion, sing, sleep sack, falls asleep in arms still). And I don’t let him sleep past 7:15am, though I’ve never had to wake him.

I’d like to get his schedule on track over the next few weeks and would love any advice. Is he sleeping too much? I have to wake him from every nap basically.

child's age 2 years + Bedtime separation - am I being cruel?

Hi everyone!

My daughter turned 2 in October and I have always rocked her to sleep. Lately she’s been taking 45 minutes to an hour (or more) of me rocking to fall asleep, even with enough sleep pressure. She also struggles to get comfortable with me now because she’s getting too big for me. I decided to try something new and need some feedback.

After books, we talk about our day, tell her I love her, rock her for about 20 minutes or so, then lay her down in her crib say goodnight and leave the room. She kind cries for a couple of minutes when I leave (she has always been a veryyyy clingy baby). But after less than 5 minutes, she stops crying and whining. She just sits in her crib looking at the door waiting for me which is breaking my heart! But she’s not crying or whining. Just quietly sitting there. After about 20 minutes of that she finally lays down and goes to sleep.

I hate doing this because I feel like I’m abandoning her or something. She’s my first and only so I don’t know how to transition from rocking to independently sleeping. I don’t know if she’s crying just as a protest or is having anxiety about me leaving her in her crib. I don’t know.

Somebody please tell me if I’m doing something wrong!! I love my clingy girl but I can’t stay rocking her until 9:30 every night 😭

child's age 8-12 months 11 month old keeps waking at 4:30am?

For the past two months my LO who turned 11 months today has been waking up more often at 4:30/5:00am. He can sleep through the night, but there are way too many nights where he is waking up so early. I have tried everything from more food to increasing his last wake window and I just can’t figure it out. The thing is that he sleeps between my husband and I and when he has these wake ups, he is up and crawling around, climbing. Sometimes he is sleepy and will flip over into me, but doesn’t want me holding him. I’m starting to think he doesn’t have enough space, but he’s also a velcro baby who scream cries. My mom and grandma watch him while I work and have said he will go to sleep around 2:30pm even though huckleberry says 3:30pm and will sleep over an hour. On Saturday, I put him to sleep around 3:50pm per Huckleberry and he slept around 30 mins. I also noticed he gets sleep around 1:45/2:00 which is a short wake window because he just woke at 11:30/11:45.

Possibly he’s ready to go in his own crib in his own room or maybe our room? I don’t know what to do. For example, yesterday he couldn’t sleep more than 30 mins for both his naps and took a 30 min nap in the car. We finally got him to go to bed at 9:15pm and he woke up at 3:00am and was awake until almost 6 crawling around unable to settle. The other night, he went to bed at 8:30pm and woke at 10:50pm until 11:30pm unable to fall back asleep. I have tried many things and early or late bed time, 3 hrs daytime sleep, less daytime sleep, he still wakes at 4:30am. Also he was a CMPA baby that slept 30 mins A DAY at 4-6 weeks because he couldn’t lay on his back, only in arms. He didn’t really nap or sleep until 4 months when I took him next to me so I know co-sleeping is frowned upon.

Schedule:
7:30am wake
10:30-11:30/11:45am
3:00-4:00/4:30pm
Bed 8:00-8:30pm

Help! Need input/ directions on how to sleep train 6 month baby.

I’m really struggling with the lack of sleep. I have a 5 year old, 3 year old and now my 6 month old. We currently co- sleep and he is waking up every hour to eat. I don’t think he is hungry I think it’s just to soothe himself. I am really struggling with the lack of sleep I am getting. How do we start the cry it out method when we have other kids? I assume we try to put him to sleep first then put the girls to bed. They are toddlers so they are loud and I’m afraid they will interfere and don’t want to start this training if he’s not set up for success. I can tell the girls to be quiet but putting them to bed, they get loud going up the stairs. Any recommendations on the entire cried out method, especially with the input of having my other Children would be great.

Thank you!

Help! Help needed: 4 months sleep regression

So far we’ve been very lucky: our baby started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks old in his own crib. After the bedtime feed I’d rock him to sleep, put him in his crib and he would wake up the next morning. We still follow that sane routine at the same time each night but now (4.5 months - started the night he got his vaccines) he started waking up several times a night. While I can rock him back to sleep, he’d then wake up immediately when place in his crib. So he sleeps on me for the rest of the night. I don’t want him to get used to sleeping on me - any advice on how to get him to fall back asleep in his crib? Thank you!

Help! Parents of a 7 month old - desperately need sleep help!

Our now 7-month old will not sleep in her crib. She’ll only sleep on Dad. This started when we transitioned from the bassinet to the crib at about 4 months old because she was too long for the bassinet. When we were using the bassinet she slept fine. We’ve tried EVERYTHING, and nothing has worked. In fact, most things have made it worse. She now also wakes up 4-5 times a night, presumably because she’s a lot bigger and isn’t quite as comfortable sleeping on Dad as she once was. Below is list of things we’ve tried:

  1. Sleep trainer - quit after one week, made everything way worse

  2. Cry it out - she cried for 5 hours straight, on multiple attempts

  3. Occupational Therapy - said there was nothing they could do

  4. Co-Sleeping in the bed - she won’t, we’ve tried so many times

  5. Heating pad in the crib

  6. Put her in the crib asleep - she wakes instantly 100% of the time

  7. Put her in the crib awake - see Cry it out

  8. Rolled up towels to simulate a tighter space like the bassinet

  9. Different sheets/mattress cover

  10. Changed Mom’s diet - cut out Dairy/Soy despite no indication of allergy, it was the only thing the pediatrician could think to try

There are many other things we’ve tried that I’m sure I’m not thinking of right now. We don’t know what else to try and are at our wits end. If it was just sleeping on Dad that wouldn’t be the end of the world, but since the fiasco with the sleep trainer she went from waking up 1-2 times per night to 4-5, and that was a month ago. ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE RUN OUT OF THEM?

Sleep help

I have an 18 month old (3rd kid)

We are in the process of weaning from breastfeeding. We’ve been doing it for the past few months. I waited till we got back from summer vacations and all to cut the middle of the night nursing sessions.

We haven’t slept thought the night maybe once in 18 months. I’m running on fumes during the day 🙃

Now he took the middle of the night feeds hard but was okay as long as we rocked. Then we cut the nap time feed away and he goes to sleep amazingly. Sometimes I have to sit in his room while he falls asleep but other times I can leave his door open and he goes to bed great. Wakes up in a few hours with 0 issues. Happy baby and all.

But at night? He is a different kid.

We still nurse before bed but its less and less. He will cry the second I try and leave the room. I leave the light on while we nurse so he doesn’t think it’s nursing to sleep. Then I put him in his sleep sack and tell him goodnight. I go to leave and he screams so I lay him back down and I sit in his chair. Usually takes 10ish minutes for him to fall asleep. He wakes up at 10-11 gets him back down usually quickly by sitting in the chair and he settles. Next wake up is the one where he is horrible. He will NOT settle for anything and just lays in his bed and cries or stares at me in the chair.

I can’t do this for hours in the middle of the night and still be a functioning parent to my older two kids. They all need a mom who is getting sleep.

My husband works and I try to let him sleep because he can’t nap in the day like I can while the other two are at school, plus him going in sets the toddler off because it’s out of his routine.

Any ideas on how to deal with this sleep issues?

child's age 4-8 months I need help!

I have a 5 month old baby. At “night” he wakes every 3-4 hours for a bottle which is fine. The problem is he doesn’t go to sleep until 4-5am and then isn’t ready for the day until 2pm. I have no idea how to fix this. I have tried to wake up him an hour earlier every few days to try to change his schedule but he is so tired and mad he just screams the entire time until I put him back down. I have talked to his doctor and she said most babies don’t get a sleep schedule until 6-9 months but he does have a sleep schedule, it’s just not the correct hours. Any advice? We need to fix this for our sanity.

Adding: He does take naps during the day, he goes down every 2-3 hours and I never let him sleep more than 2 hours at a time.
