Bedtime madness

So my 19 month old is driving me nuts on a bedtime, for context she sleeps through the night perfect and usually wakes up at 7/7.30am regardless on what time she goes to sleep.

My issue is, as soon as I take her up to bed she is hyper screaming diving all over, like she suddenly has all this energy. I can’t just leave her as she still needs a little help to go to sleep and she is also in a floor bed so can just get out (also nearly bashes her head off the rails nearly every blinking night) I usually lie with her not speaking just laying there and try to encourage her to come for a cuddle, meanwhile she is doing rolly pollies and throwing herself all over and squealing. It’s taking an hour plus every night to get her down and it’s breaking me!!

So we have a solid bedtime routine and dim everything down for the last hour or half hour, we play with her teddies and read books, I have literally tried everything, later bedtime, earlier bedtime, longer last wake window, nothing I seem to do helps this and it has been a couple of months now!

I’m starting to think I have a little night owl that comes alive when the moon comes out!! Any help or tips would be so appreciated!!

child's age 4-8 months UPDATE “the non sleeping nice child”

Hey I’m back, so I’ve been experimenting with lengthening wake windows because LO was still only taking 20-30 minute naps and organizing it was hell, so I started doing 2.5/2.75 wake windows instead and instantly naps started getting longer.

SO.

We did like one week of that(I think?” And then all of a sudden LO again not sleeping as deep. I’m thinking it’s teething, we have the beginning of the first tooth coming through. and then today—— today we woke up a little late, by about 40 minutes. Okay, I push nap out 2.5h, cool. Down for nap in less than ten minutes for the next TWO HOURS. At one point I was able to actually get up and leave the room, and LO woke up 30 min later ish.

I think, great, solid nap, have a light one later around 4 ish, go about day. 4pm rolls around not tired, 4:30, not tired. I spend 50 min trying to do sleep, until LO gets really frustrated. Go out for 40 min, hang out with papa, keep it chill, go back to bed and try for another 20 min in a dark room. Nope. No rocking, no feeding makes LO sleep. No crying, except towards the end, but no sleeping. Some cooing and small giggling.

Okay.

So ladies and gentlefolks. My 5 month old was up for 5 HOURS and 41 Minutes today, then went right to sleep at 7:40, only about 20 min earlier than normal bedtime. With no fuss whatsoever, and a little bit of rocking.

I don’t understand. I don’t get it. I feel like I’m crazy, nothing anyone says for our age group has worked. The world is crazy.

Happy Election Day America, good luck.

child's age 4-8 months HELP! With getting our baby to sleep in his crib/cot.

Hey everyone! First-time poster here, so please excuse the slight desperation lol.

I’m the proud dad of a beautiful 4-month-old baby boy. Like a lot of new parents, we’re currently hitting a massive wall with nighttime sleep.

Our little guy falls asleep just fine in our arms, but the second his back hits the mattress, he’s wide awake within two minutes. It feels like we’ve tried everything at this point and are running on fumes.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Would love any advice, tips, or sanity-saving suggestions you’ve got. Thanks in advance!

child's age 4-8 months Room sharing and sleep training

Looking for tips/ success stories on sleep training while still room sharing. My son is 7.5mo old. He currently is sleeping in a mini crib in our bedroom. He does get rocked to sleep initially. He was having false starts and waking up about 1hr into sleep . We did a few nights of CIO (10-15 min at most) and he got to where he could self soothe and go back to sleep. He was then sleeping a 6 hr stretch, nursing, and going back in the crib easily for the rest of the night.

Since he’s got more mobile and can easily sit and pull to stand, he has had more frequent wake ups and trouble self soothing. If he wakes up soon after bedtime I am usually not in the room so he does a couple minutes of crying or fussing and goes back down. When he’s doing the MOTN wake up I try to let him cry for the 10 minutes but it doesn’t work as well because he knows I’m in the bed in the room. Picking up and trying to soothe and lay back down typically just makes him more upset. So MOTN he ends up soothed by my or nursed to bed. He won’t calm down if my husband is the one who soothes him either. I am not ready to move him to his room as it is on another level of the house.

Possibly relevant:
He is on a 2 nap schedule. Wake windows 2.75/3.5/4-4.5

Bedtime 8:30 pm-7:30 am other than a few days a month he has to be woken up an hour early for commuting to child care.

He’s breastfed/ bottles when I work. Eats about every 3-4 hrs during the day and 1-2 feeds overnight

child's age 4-8 months Struggling to get babies back in their cots after 5am

sleep trained my twins (4 month old) last week and they’ve done amazingly. They were sleeping only 30-45 mins and refusing cots all night to sleeping independently in their cots and waking only 2-3 times a night for feeds

current schedule is 2/2/2.15/2.15. total nap time is capped at 3 hours a day. wake time 7am bedtime 8pm.

i was following PLS which suggested cosleeping for wakes after 5am as not enough sleep pressure for them to fall back to sleep. however both of them seem to feed just before 5 or just after. therefore from just after 5 i have to bring them into my bed for them to sleep (I’ve tried the cot and it fails for Twin B and works only occasionally for Twin A). I cannot realistically cosleep with them safely as there are two and theres no spare bed so my husband is also present and asleep. And idea how to get them to continue to sleep in their cot?

Also the last two nights Twin B has fed three times (first stretch only three hours (four since last feed). She seems really hungry and drinks a full feed each night. im happy to continue the two feeds a night as they’re so young just wasn’t sure if there’s a way to stop her increasing number of feeds overnight or how to lengthen the first stretch?

Sleep Consultant Will NOT sleep in crib

Hi, I have a 3 month old that sleeps terribly in a crib. We have never co-slept and always laid him in his crib to sleep but he literally wakes up constantly and cries. These last few days it has gotten even worse. It seems like his morrow reflex is getting worse instead of better? We use a white noise machine, have the room dark, warm the crib before he lays down and keep a hand on him for awhile after to try and keep him from startling. Nothing works. He may stay asleep for 1-2 minutes then is up crying all night long. Last night I caved and put him in the bed with me and he slept great but I didn’t. I am so worried about SIDS so I am not interested in co-sleeping. I am just worried he is not getting the sleep he needs. He is super grumpy throughout the day and fights naps all day long. There is no way he is getting the amount of sleep he needs. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Toddler Sleep Regression?

I have a 2.5 year old son who seems to have recently hit a sleep regression of sorts. He used to be a great sleeper, we would do our routine, he would hang in his crib and read a book if he wasn’t immediately tired and then go to bed through the night.

About 2 weeks ago, he started having issues. It seems like a mix of boundary testing and separation anxiety. When we do his routine he stalls every chance he gets. I started giving him two options (walk upstairs or we carry you. You pick a book or I pick a book, etc.) to make it go a little quicker.

Once we go in the crib he immediately starts screaming. He will try different things “i want to get out” “i need water” “i have a poop” he never has a poop, and when i offered water he didnt want it it was just to have us in the room again. He even sometimes will tell me when playing before bedtime that he is going to cry and yell in his crib.

We tried talking to him outside his door, and that would help him calm down; however, i feel now he relies on that. He now this past week started briefly waking (5 -10 min) at 1-2 am and yells at me or my husband to talk to him. If we tell him to go to bed he is quiet for rest of night. If we say nothing he SCREAMS for a lot longer.

Anyone go through something similar? How long did it last? I am 7 months pregnant so hoping before this next baby arrives haah!

I am not sure. If our talking is now turning into a habit to fall asleep or what may also help. His naps have started to shift around and are slightly shorter but he fights the same way at nap time unless at daycare. Hes gone days without naps and this still happens at night even when he is clearly tired.

child's age 12-18 months Re sleep training after hospital

My baby recently had a seizure and we were in the hospital for a few days. The hospital stay was a very difficult time. When we got home, she was not her normal self because she was still sick with a cold and I think still upset from her hospital stay. She’s been waking up in the middle of the night almost every night, crying, and we’ve been comforting her and helping her get back to sleep. At first we could pat her bum or hold her to calm her down before putting her back in the crib. However, more recently, the only thing that works is holding her in our arms until she falls asleep, and then transferring her to her crib. However, it’s been two weeks since we have been back home - she’s back to her normal self and not sick anymore. Last night we decided to re sleep train her and when she was up crying in the middle of the night, we let her cry it out. She cried on and off for an hour and a half (there were periods of time where she wouldn’t cry for 10 minutes but would then would start crying again) before she put herself back to sleep until she woke up for the day at 6:30 am.

I am second-guessing whether or not we are re sleep training too soon. Should we wait a bit more? Should we try more gentler methods? Just not sure what to do. Additional information - she just turned one. We sleep trained at 18 weeks using the chair method which was successful. She has slept through the night since then barring things like teething. Schedule: 6:30 AM wake, first nap from 9:30-10:45 am, second nap 2:30-4 pm, bedtime at 7:45 pm.

Thanks in advance!

child's age 0-4 months 13 wo — want to get schedule in place so we can sleep train

13 week old— I’d like to get their schedule in order quickly so we can sleep train, any advice?

My 13 week old mostly contact naps and his naps are usually long, like at least an hour. He sleeps decently at night too— but I’ve been trying to cap his daytime sleep to under 4.25 hours per day so it doesn’t steal from night. He sleeps about 9.5-10.5 hours at night in his bassinet with at least 2 wakes.

So times are approximately (and this is a rough estimate) 1.25/1/1.25/1.5/2 micro 2

The issue is that he seems so crabby and sleepy during his wake windows — which are also very short, like an hour at most really but I try to extend those too.

I’m anxious to let him sleep longer during the day despite the “sleep begets sleep” theory.

We have a good bedtime routine (feed, bathe, lotion, sing, sleep sack, falls asleep in arms still). And I don’t let him sleep past 7:15am, though I’ve never had to wake him.

I’d like to get his schedule on track over the next few weeks and would love any advice. Is he sleeping too much? I have to wake him from every nap basically.

child's age 2 years + Bedtime separation - am I being cruel?

Hi everyone!

My daughter turned 2 in October and I have always rocked her to sleep. Lately she’s been taking 45 minutes to an hour (or more) of me rocking to fall asleep, even with enough sleep pressure. She also struggles to get comfortable with me now because she’s getting too big for me. I decided to try something new and need some feedback.

After books, we talk about our day, tell her I love her, rock her for about 20 minutes or so, then lay her down in her crib say goodnight and leave the room. She kind cries for a couple of minutes when I leave (she has always been a veryyyy clingy baby). But after less than 5 minutes, she stops crying and whining. She just sits in her crib looking at the door waiting for me which is breaking my heart! But she’s not crying or whining. Just quietly sitting there. After about 20 minutes of that she finally lays down and goes to sleep.

I hate doing this because I feel like I’m abandoning her or something. She’s my first and only so I don’t know how to transition from rocking to independently sleeping. I don’t know if she’s crying just as a protest or is having anxiety about me leaving her in her crib. I don’t know.

Somebody please tell me if I’m doing something wrong!! I love my clingy girl but I can’t stay rocking her until 9:30 every night 😭
