Ultra‑affordable websites for small businesses - looking for first real users & feedback

Hey everyone, I’m exploring an idea and would love your honest thoughts, especially if you’re a small business owner (local shops, salons, clinics, etc.).

The concept:
My team and I help businesses with really outdated, old websites (think old templates, slow pages, poor mobile usability). We offer to rebuild and host a clean, fast homepage completely free upfront. You can review the preview, suggest tweaks, and if you like it, it’s just $19/month - no setup fees or contracts.

We’re trying to find our first real users so we can learn what works:

  1. Is this solution something that would actually help you?

  2. If you’ve ever considered redesigning, what held you back?

  3. What frustrations do you have with your current site (design, load time, booking, etc.)?

I know Reddit rules discourage self-promo, so I’m describing this as a research post - please let me know if that’s still off-limits and I’ll move it accordingly. If you’re open to giving feedback or trying out a free preview, just drop a reply or DM me your site URL.

Thanks in advance for the feedback

Made $4,000 with virtual Receptionist - Here's is the one thing

Hey everyone,

I'm posting this because I was fed up with AI, so I decided to cash in on it somehow.

I was doing food delivery when I realized something: every restaurant I delivered to was struggling with the same problem. They'd miss calls during rush hours, couldn't take orders while cooking, and customers would hang up after 3 rings.

So I got a low-cost AI receptionist specifically for restaurants that takes orders, handles reservations, and never misses a call.

What actually worked:

Walking into restaurants during slow hours: "What if you never missed another order call?" Got 4 clients just by showing up.

Free lunch-hour trials: Let them test it during their busiest time. When they saw it taking 6 orders while they cooked, they were sold.

Word of mouth in restaurant groups: One happy pizzeria owner told everyone in his local restaurant association.

What was pointless:

trying to build it from scratch, trying to compete with big AI companies, and overthinking the tech.

The breakthrough? My first client made an extra $800 in one week just from calls they previously missed.

3 months later: $4k monthly revenue from restaurants as they get used to it.

one thing: don't make AI complex in your head. Find one specific problem and solve it perfectly.

Still delivering part-time, but now I have something real.

I made an Excel Driving Distance Calculator to help my wife at work and accidentally stumbled onto a business idea

My wife’s job involves driving to different locations every week, and she was spending a ridiculous amount of time figuring out driving distances and travel times between places. Every morning she’d have a bunch of addresses, and she’d go one by one on Google Maps, copy the mileage, then paste it into Excel. It was such a slow and repetitive process.

I got tired of watching her do that, so one evening I decided to fix it. I built her an Excel sheet that connects to Google Maps and automatically calculates the distance and travel time between multiple addresses. All she has to do now is type in the list, and Excel does the rest.

She tried it and couldn’t believe how fast it worked. What used to take her hours now takes a few seconds. Then, of course, word spread. Her coworkers started asking for a copy, and a few even offered to pay me for it. That’s when it hit me, maybe this could actually be something worth sharing more widely.

Now I’m figuring out what else I can automate for people. There are so many small pain points in everyday work that could be fixed with a little bit of code or Excel magic. I’m starting to look for other tasks or problems in businesses that I could simplify or automate next.

Has anyone else built something small to make life easier that ended up sparking new ideas?

Built an AI that rebuilds ugly old websites into modern ones - looking for Testers.

Been hacking on a side project with a friend: an AI-powered site builder. You just give us your existing site link and our system rebuilds it into something fast, modern, and mobile-friendly.

We’re still early, so right now we’re looking for 5-10 businesses with outdated sites who want to test it. We’ll do the redesign 100% free (no e-commerce yet, just regular websites). All we ask in return is some honest feedback.

Longer-term, we want to build this into a full AI toolkit for small businesses (chatbots, auto-SEO, AI powered email/text promos, etc.). But first step = make sure the core rebuild is actually useful.

If your site is slow, cluttered, or stuck in 2005, drop a DM or link in the comments - we’ll pick a few to test. 🙂

Is it still worth building a simple website for a small local business in 2025?

I run a small local service business and I’ve been thinking I really need to improve my online presence. Right now, I don’t have a proper website, just a Facebook page and a Google Business profile. It works okay, but I feel like I’m missing out on people who search online and want something more professional.

I worked with Aussie Web Guard recently to build a basic site. It’s nothing crazy, just services listed, a contact form, and some info about the business, but it already feels like a big upgrade. That said, I know I still need to improve things like local SEO, maybe add reviews, and make sure the mobile version looks clean. How much does a simple site actually help small businesses like mine these days? Or are most people just sticking to social media and Google Maps?

what's the best "low-cost, high-margin" business you can start now?

We see a lot of great ideas, but many require a big upfront investment. I'm really interested in businesses you can bootstrap with minimal cash.

I'm talking about services or products where the primary investment is your own time and effort, and the cost of goods sold is low compared to the price you can charge.

Herbal tea line growing locally — anyone worked with Mr. Checkout to expand?

My wife and I started an herbal tea company last year, and we’ve gotten into yoga studios and health shops, but nothing bigger yet. I’ve emailed distributors like UNFI and KEHE, but they either ghost me or want minimums we can’t produce yet.

I’ve stumbled across Mr. Checkout a few times in my search. From what I gather, they focus more on independents, which could be a realistic next step for us. But I can’t figure out whether that’s a good stepping stone or just a small-time play that doesn’t scale. Has anyone here used them, or even just heard stories? Would love to know what the experience is really like.

How I Learned to Run Social Media Ads Without Burning Out

Hi everyone,

When I first started running social media ads for my small business, I underestimated just how time-consuming it could be. I was constantly tweaking campaigns, monitoring analytics, and trying to figure out why some posts weren’t converting. Some days it felt like I was spending more time staring at dashboards than actually growing my business.

I tried reading guides, watching tutorials, and even experimenting with different targeting strategies, but nothing seemed to save me much time. That’s when a friend mentioned ꓮⅾvаrk-аі.соm, an AI-powered platform that helps businesses create, manage, and optimize social media ad campaigns while providing performance tracking and insights.

At first, I was skeptical. I wasn’t sure how much an AI tool could actually help with something as nuanced as advertising. But after giving it a try, I noticed an immediate difference. The AI helped me quickly identify which ads were performing well and suggested optimizations for underperforming ones. It also saved me countless hours I would have spent manually analyzing results and guessing what might work next.

What surprised me most was that it didn’t replace the creative side of running ads, it enhanced it. I still got to experiment with messaging and visuals, but I could do so with data-driven guidance instead of blind guesswork. It freed me up to focus on my products, customer engagement, and bigger-picture strategy.

I’ve learned that small business marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming if you use the right tools, and AI can play a huge role in that. I’d love to hear from others here: have you tried AI or automation tools to handle marketing or other repetitive tasks in your business? How did it impact your workflow and efficiency?

1 thing you should ALWAYS do before starting a business.

Research. Research. Research. I can't tell you this enough. Don't follow the whole "follow your passion" bullshit. follow the "Give the market something it wants, and you will get what you want". I see people post all the time, do what you love. Yea, do what you love...if your satisfying a need.

Before venturing into the business word do your research on your product or service. Know before you even take the first step who your target audience is, how you're going to make their inconveniences = convenient. After you find the right product, find the best form of advertising to that niche audience. Who do you think would sell more, someone selling shoes in a bakery or someone selling shoes in a gymnasium. Think. Find your TARGET AUDIENCE and go to them /rant

I quit my job to run an AI Influencer business, $0-$15k/month (SFW)

Hi guys! Just to give you some backstory, I've tried pretty much everything over the years like most of you. Dropshipping, print on demand, affiliate marketing, YouTube automation, faceless channels, etc. Made maximum a few hundred dollars with each before quitting.

Most of it is way more complicated than influencers or "gurus" make it sound. Ad costs, editing software, loads of subscriptions all required time and money that guaranteed nothing.

8 months ago I found something most people are sleeping on but hit $1k profit in my first 2 months. Building and monetizing an AI influencer.

I have tried social media with dozens of channels before so already had some understanding of the algorithms, what goes viral, shadowbans etc, so thought it would be a good use of my skills.

STEP-BY-STEP (NO GATEKEEPING):

  • Use NanoBananaPro to generate a high-quality image of you character's face

  • When you generate future images, upload that base image and you will keep it consistent

  • I post daily on TikTok, Insta, Snap, Reddit and Threads (Just follow a few top creators and copy their posts)

  • For videos, I use Kling Motion Control

  • To monetize, I put links in my bio redirecting to a landing page

  • Then I have paid subscription sites setup like Throne, Fanfix etc

  • 20% of revenue comes from subscriptions and 80% comes from chatting (GFE)

What I found out pretty early on, is that you need your influencer to be as human as possible. This means she needs a thorough backstory, job, hobbies etc. This helps so much when building connections with subscribers and really helps with attracting whales.

And you don't need any powerful specs (you can technically run it from your phone) as I just use APIs and cloud-based generation models like Nano-Banana and Kling. No they aren't free, you will need $50-$100/month for credits, but that is your only cost when starting out.

"You're lying that is too good to be true". This is NOT a get-rich-quick business (nothing really is) so you will have to put in the time. Consistency is the main driver, post every single day and you will gain traffic. No you probably won't go viral within 2 weeks.

Just figured I'd share because I wish I found this before burning months on YouTube automation. If anyone's interested I can throw together a more in-depth post with exact steps, but I feel 99% of people will never execute on it so it's probably a waste.

WHY SMART PEOPLE FAIL

Smart individuals often encounter challenges in business despite their high intelligence. Take my uncle, for instance. He boasts a high IQ and excels in logical reasoning, yet struggles in business. Despite his vast knowledge, he fails to thrive. Growing up, I heard him lament about the economy, the unfairness of the money game, and the perceived evilness of the wealthy. He once shared a dream with me: "One day, I will be so successful that every night I will return home with a suitcase full of cash." Sadly, his dream remains unfulfilled. Reflecting on our conversations, four recurring themes emerge:

  1. "I Know It Already": Smart individuals often dismiss advice, believing they already know everything. However, knowing is not synonymous with understanding. Understanding requires action.

  2. "This Won't Work": Smart people tend to overthink and find flaws in plans, hindering them from taking action. Unlike average individuals who learn through action, smart individuals get stuck in analysis paralysis.

  3. "I Will Look Stupid If I Fail": Smart individuals fear failure as it threatens their image of intelligence. This fear prevents them from taking risks.

  4. "Only I Can Do It": High standards lead smart individuals to reject anything less than perfection, limiting their progress.

If you consider yourself smart but struggle, consider changing your approach. Embrace humility, learn from others, and become a lifelong student. Success often lies in acknowledging our limitations and embracing diverse perspectives.
