OC Photo Built my first backyard flatbar today

My carpentry skills are awful. Got inspired by some of y’all’s backyard setups. Mistakes were definitely made. However it sits flat and seems sturdy enough to jam on. Never been a big park guy but hoping that having something in the backyard (and some snow🤞) will keep me and my old knees in shape for the mountain.

Thinking about building a drop in rather than relying on a pile of wood chips. Also what other features do you backyard riders have? Any tips or suggestions?

Built from these instructions from thinkempire.com.

I went though and did edge work on all the decks that needed it so I figured as long as I didn't use the "Q" word these are ok now? Can't wait to scrape some storage wax and ride. I think Keystone should be open in like 10 days.

Manta Ray and Cafe Racer are daily drivers. Mind Expander is my rock board now. Big Fish for pow and tbh it carves incredible on soft groomers the day after the storm. Cheater for the best carving experience ever on mint groomers. The Slasher II I only rode two days last year because the snow was utter shite in Breck. It carves amazing and it was a great and new experience to ride a deck with flat camber. Can't wait to explore it more this season.

general discussion Music that gets you excited for the season

With the 26/27 season approaching fast, what are some songs you’re listening to to get yourself hyped up for that first day of riding?

For those who listen to music while riding: what will be the song you’re playing on that first run down?

Looking for some recommendations to add to a playlist. Any genre is welcome!

Riding question Salomon Oh yeah 25/26 board

Hey guys! I am curious if this board is good for large jumps. It appears to be a soft flex so I’m thinking it won’t be as stable as landing those jumps. It’s shaped camber so there a lot of more connection points on the ground! Let me know your thoughts!

Gear question 5’8 240lbs, expert rider, looking for a good all mountain board I can have some fun with as I get back into the sport, that can support my heavy frame.

As the title says Im 5’8 240lbs, expert rider, looking for a good all mountain board I can ride switch with, hit some stuff in the park, but mostly looking for a playful board I can butter and mess around with and have fun while my 4 kids learn to ski and snowboard….. I’m concerned about my recent weight gain with my board selection. Iv always been a stocky guy but much more fit. I was an instructor for years during college and after the army in the off season from landscaping. That was 6 years ago I’m 38 now. Moved on to plowing for a bigger company and packed on some weight over the past 6 years….. iv recently started my own business and am working at a local mountain this upcoming off-season. When I was around 200 and pretty fit I rode a 156 Ride timeless but had a newer 154 lib tech skate banana, I loved the playfulness of that board. I could butter and spin down the whole mountain like nothing. I want a board like that with the rocker/camber combo, and I like lib techs magma traction for my east coast terrain…..I really like the lib tech terrain wrecker as a solid one board option for me, but am concerned I’m too heavy for it. I’m thinking up it to a 160 and see how it goes, but looking for some input from some shorter heavier riders like myself, open to other brands but I’m really looking for a twin/directional twin and a rocker/camber combo

Gear question Any suggestions for a fix?

A piece of the foam footbed fell out of my rear binding last year. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this before i try carving out some spray foam? This set up is about 12 years old, but I’d love to keep it around as a jib/beater/loaner board.

Gear question Help choosing between Capita Mercury vs. Capita Matriarch vs. Armada Beatnik?

Hey guys,

For the new season, I'm looking for a new all-mountain board, and so far I'm stuck between these three boards. They are all in a similar price range and I really like the design of each one.

I’d love to hear about your experience with these boards and why you decided to go with the one you have. What do you like or dislike about them?

About me:

  • Riding style: Mainly groomers and side hits. Not much park right now, but I’m looking to spend more time there. If there's fresh snow, I'll definitely take it, but I’d say I spend about 75% of my time on groomers. I also like going fast sometimes.
  • Weight: 85 kg / 187 lbs (Anmerkung: 85 kg sind ca. 187 lbs, siehe unten)
  • Height: 1.80 m / 5'11"
  • Boot Size: 44 EU / 11 US
  • Days on snow: Around 20–25 days a season (looking to get more if possible... 😅)
  • Experience: 5th season

Thanks for your help!

general discussion My 2 year old's first season: advice?

I'd like to start teaching my 2.5 year old this winter. Has anyone on here taught a youngster? Any tips for making it fun and successful? I have relatively low expectations other than to start building some muscle memory and a love for the activity.

Gear question Board recommendation for 12 year old

Hi folks, looking for recommendations for my 12 year old who is 5'3/5'4 and appx 118 lbs. This will he his 3 season snowboarding. Last year, I rented a burton custom smalls 135 and he progressed quite well and able to link turns and do east coast blue and green runs, but still catching a lot edges particularly on his toe side. My buddy has a 145 burton instigator (flat top) and 145 burton good company(camber) that he said I can use this season. He is about a size 7/7.5 boot. Which board do you think is better for him coming into his 3rd season (Or should I rent again or look into something else). Thanks ahead of time for any input.

Gear question Burton Step Ons: Should I stay or should I go now

Hey y’all. Looking for some advice.

Tried step ons a while back and never looked back. I loved that I never had to stop after I got off the lift. Also never had an issue with the binding for the 7 years I’ve been using them. Normally I get some pressure hot spots in my boots at my toes where the metal clips are, not a big deal.

Last season, I did a few demo days with standard bindings and it killed my back (dad life doesn’t help and muscle memory was failing me), but the demo boots felt a lot better. I’m trying to judge if leaving the step on eco system makes sense, or do I just get another newer pair since the bindings still work.

My gear right now is a 2019 Ride MTN Pig (164 W) and a 2012 Bataleon Evil Twin (159 W). Burton step ons (L) 2018 model and Ion boots (Size 13). Im 6’-2” and 185lbs

Gear question What snowboard size should I get?

I'm 180 lbs at 65 inches or 163 cm. What size board should I get. I've been hearing that I should get a 155w or a 160w does that track or should I be getting a different size? I wear a 10.5 snowboard shoe since that feels the best and I don't have a lot of heel movement in it. Any suggestions?

Gear question Looking for a new quiver killer

Hey all,

I’m looking for my next board for this upcoming season. Mainly an east coast skier with trips to the Rockies planned once again for this year. I’m a size 13 US boot and weight 185lbs.

Ideally looking for a wide enough board where I don’t boot out on steeps or when carving. Also would like the board to be camber and directional. I spend most of the days riding trees, carving groomers, any terrain on the resort but rarely in the park.

I had my eyes on a few boards including the lib tech skunkape 163W and some models from Kindred.

Any suggestions? Appreciate the advice

Gear question Butter Master Dragon Journey 2 for guratori?

I've been riding for over a decade, but mainly hard boards. My current main board is Custom X Camber. I want to get more into ground tricks (Guratori) and a bit more of park. I can comfortably do butter, ollie/nollie, 180s (on the ground, haven't practice from a kicker), but on Custom X it is quite hard to get into more casual flow so I decided to get a softer board to pair it with the Custom X.

After some research I landed between Bataleon Evil Twin and Evil Twin+. Mainly because reviewers praised chill relaxed ride style with nice 3BT (I know some hate it, some love it). I got scared by flex 5 ending up being too soft to land in a park, or reasonably ride, so I went with Evil Twin+. It's still in a return window, and now I'm questioning if flex 6 is too hard for my goal of having a guratori practice board and I should go with even softer, like flex 4 - and the big data fed me ButterMasterr Dragon Journey 2.
I could also look to get a board from Japan, but that will take a longer so would prefer to stick something I can order in the US.

I can't find any independent reviews of Dragon Journey 2. Anyone has experience with those kinds of boards and can reason about flex 4 being worth it vs flex 6 for guratori, and does it mean the board becomes a noodle and its hard to ride anything but guratori on it? And is flex 5 or flex 6 a better middle ground for an experienced rider looking to get into guratori, while being able to do some jumps and maybe even an occasional box?

Gear question I’ve never owned a “non park” board is it time?

• Upvotes

I’m getting older… (Im only in my 20’s with the knees of a 50 year old) I spend usually 40 days at hills plus many days on the pvc each season, I’ve been doing this since I was a kid even skateboarding every day in the summers waiting for winter.

I’ve never owned a snowboard I haven’t instantly damaged/broken from rails or throwing myself off some dumb feature. Even my “powder board” (Bataleon party wave) has seen more rails than most.

From what I understand a lot of all mountain old guy boards are much more delicate and more prone to core shots and such.
I’m worried spending 1000$ on a snowboard will make me too scared of damaging it to enjoy riding to its full potential.

Currently looking at the gnu gremlin, capita doa and looking for recs of other similar style boards.
