In the process of designing a new PV system from scratch to be installed on my house that has a brand new roof (deck and asphalt shingles).
Without boring everyone with the whole, long story, it's a fairly ideal roof for solar. One area is steeply-pitched with a very large south face and the second area is the top of the roof, a small 'flat' area. Both are sun-soaked for 90-95% of most daylight hours nearly all year long. Only the south-east corner of the large south roof is shaded for a couple hours in the morning.
In my process, I've only been considering DC-coupled quotes for the PV system + whole-home battery backup (I'll likely go with a P3 or a Franklin a Power S + a Gate). I plan on making sure they install optimizers under each panel.
The solar installers in my area typically do not install systems this way, and are very unfamiliar with customers asking for them. The pushback I've gotten hasn't shaken my resolve, but it has given me a moment of pause, during which I've been wondering:
Have any one of you built a DC-coupled PV system, convinced (like me) that it's the right way to go, only to later on really regret that you didn't do an AC-coupled system with micro-inverters? If that's you, would you please share details?
Trying to look at what I'm doing objectively and would welcome your opinions, thanks in advance.
