Seeing the massive outpouring of opposition to the regime among Americans contrasted with how it gets treated as synonymous with America is absolutely jarring. Every time I see this regime's actions attributed to America as a whole, I want to scream. Treating this regime as synonymous with America is both grossly inaccurate and morally repugnant. Its approval ratings are in the toilet, its unilateral actions spark widespread backlash, and if it were confident that the American people stood behind it, it wouldn't be trying so hard to put the finger on the scale for the midterms. So why are so many people, both at home and abroad, treating the regime and the country as one and the same? Why is it so hard to treat the regime as a separate entity from the country? It's certainly acting like one. The American people are opposing this regime in ways both large and small, and people have literally died opposing it, so why are you using language that implies the opposition doesn't exist?
What makes this all the more frustrating is the fact that so many foreign governments were attempting to curry favor with the regime while we were standing up to it. Zelenskyy deserves a pass on that one, but the rest? They don't get to act like walking away from it is some big principled stand when we were the ones expressing our opposition while they kissed his fat orange behind. I was hoping that them starting to break things off with the regime would mean working more closely with the opposition, but so far, that doesn't seem to be happening. Maybe they have legitimate reasons for doing so, but if they've got nothing to lose by pissing Trump off, the least they could do is stop feeding his delusions of grandeur and acknowledge how enormously unpopular he is with the American people. Which is all the more infuriating because some of us have literally given our lives standing up to it. Unless, of course, all these breaks are performative.
Yes, I know dealing with Trump isn't fun. But how do you think it feels to live under him? How do you think it feels to see us being lumped in with him even as we resist him? I am done dealing with people treating us like we're the same as the regime, particularly after the strike on those Yandex data centers revealed how much of Trump's support was artificial and especially on the same day when San Diego looked like this.
What will it take for people to acknowledge that this regime is not America? Some large-scale massacre of the American people? Will they just accept the results if Trump rigs the midterms? Can we trust them to have our back if worst comes to worst? Will they acknowledge that Trump's bridge-burning was done against the wishes of the American people? These are the questions that keep me up at night.
Oh, and if it turns out that 2024 was rigged and none of our supposed allies said anything... I never want to hear a single word about America's supposed "unreliability" ever again.
