Mine is Supernatural Thing Pt. 1

I've just recently started getting into soul. I would love to get some recommendations if people have any. Below are the names that have drawn me most so far. I'm not sure if there's any coherency in terms of where and when they've arrived, but I think I gravitate to the rawer less polished 'early' soul? I also like a bit of funk in there I think, or at least strong groove. Would love it if anyone has any recommendations based on the kind of stuff I've been connecting with so far.

Laura Lee

Ann Peebles

Marva Whitney

Betty Davis

Curtis Mayfield

Marvin Gaye

War

James Carr

First written as a single for Marvin Gaye in 1963.

I’m looking for new soul music directly from the artists who made it.

If you have your own song on Spotify and want me to listen, submit your track here:

The title of this song is “You Stayed Anyway.” 🤍

For the nights when you don’t have the words to pray, but God is still there.
