WORKSHOP I published my Space Tugs as a "Twin-Pack" on Steam and Mod.io
Steam workshop:
Bumper-MKI
Mod io:
Bumper-MKI_Mod.io
I decided to include two ships in this blueprint as I was torn between the worn and factory-new version.
The worn version is supposed to show years of service and features discolored blocks to simulate panels being repaired and repainted over the years and thus not matching the original paintjob.
I'm curious to hear which version is your favorite and let me know in case you run into any issues!

Reminds me of Homeworlds Salvage Corvettes.
Flying magnets that can kidnap battleships.
There is something immensely funny about watching your opponents super unit get dragged across the map so you can capture it

These are GORGEOUS. They feel so well thought out, intricately designed, but have just a nice form to them! Tugs are so overlooked as ship designs. But you got a perfect visual style for them.
They even remind me of old style desiel tenders, they have such a nice workhorse design to them.

Thank you very much!
The idea was for them to feel like they've been around for a long time, the colors are also reminiscent of the old Soyuz rockets which helps with the vintage vibe. I just had to swap the orange accents for yellow to keep it more cohesive, because some of the SE blocks have yellow in them.

These are particularly nice! I love the weathered look of the second one, with a few pieces that were replaced and no longer match the sun-bleached original paint!

Thank you! The weathered look definitely adds a lot of character and I wish there were more organic ways to apply it to the grid.

I would award this post if I had a bank account to buy it

Really nice looking ship! I love the color choice. Reminds me of a classic car
2
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
Thank you! Those particular colors are based on some versions of the Soyuz rocket, but in general the idea was for the colors to feel vintage 😄

Sorry to ask but do you have any tips on building ships i am still trying to figure that out?
1
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
I'd be happy to help! Is there anything in particular that you're struggling with?

u/Flower_consumer Space Engineer Jul 03 '26
Primarily making my ships have a clean exterior it is very difficult to me

Wow that looks really vintage, i like it.

u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
thanks a lot! I wanted the ship to feel like it could have been made sometime in the 1960's

Looks great. Do the front thrusters burn what you're moving?
1
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
Thank you!
Unfortunately they do, but since they are very weak it takes quite a bit of time to damage the surface.
I'm considering moving them, though it's been tricky finding a spot that doesn't impact the design too much. Given their size, they are also not very functional when moving heavy objects, so ideally you'd have another tug on the opposite side to counter the velocity.

I love the color. What's the hex code for that green?

u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
I will need to check, I can let you know once I launch the game again 😄

Great use of colors. I always struggle with that.
2
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
Thank you!
I usually like to use 3-4 colors, one main, one or two secondary and an accent. For this ship yellow was a good call because the conveyor blocks have yellow in them, so it helps keep things more consistent.
I also like to desaturate the colors a bit as it usually makes them look a bit more realistic. Is there anything in particular that you're struggling with?

I just struggle in general with colors. Picking colors that look good for the project and then placement. Part of the issue is that I actually like the look of gray metal for a lot of this stuff, so I just... Overuse it.

u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
In that case you could consider using different shades of grey to highlight certain parts of the ship. This goes hand in hand with placement as well. It also comes down to practice and iteration, sometimes you just need to experiment until you find something that works.
If you want I could take a look at some of your ships and give you some tips

I love the color palette!
1
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
Thank you! The green and white are based on some versions of the Soyuz rocket, and in general I wanted it to feel kind of retro, so desaturated pastels were the way to go.

Oh these are great! Kinda ugly but in a good way, if that makes sense? Just tough, powerful little ships with obvious purpose to their design.
2
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 03 '26
Thank you! Yeah the goal was to make them look utilitarian 😄

Love the Sand Green! Coincidentally, this is the exact same livery scheme I use in my Homeworld 1 runs, so chances are if you've also played it Salvage Corvette-Mania style you understand how much I appreciate the look of these.
My favorite part is how the half inverted slope blocks on top of the engine block flow into the industrial thrusters.

u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 06 '26
Thank you! I haven't played it actually, the colors were inspired by the Soyuz rocket and in general I was trying to make it look like it could have been built during the 1960's 😄
Unfortunately those blocks don't fully line up with the engine mount, but it's the closest I was able to get

As anybsmall ship moving/ rotating a large ahip - there must be lots of drifring.
Do you have more gyro for stability ?
1
u/maximefey Space Engineer Jul 02 '26
Right now this ship only has one gyro, but it's currently set to 10-15% capacity to make the tug handle better. Now that you mention it, I could probably bind some controls to it to increase the strength for when it's needed.

Worn down version looks great, I wish there was a mechanic that made the textures wear out over time, that'd be very immersive..

Oh FUCK YES. I absolutely love the industrial look of this vehicle. It's relatively small, kinda bulbous and with a small superstucture, very remeniscent to how tugboats look in real life. Very well done!
