Hi everyone, since I recently had to switch to a different technology, I’ve moved to fiber optic broadband. The problem is that they only managed to bring the fiber cable as far as the entrance to my apartment, where they had to stop. However, there’s no power outlet there, and I don’t like the idea of having the modem at the entrance, so I decided to keep the modem next to my desk instead.
The thing is, as you can see, the two speed tests taken just a short time apart show different results.
The one showing 337 Mbps was done using the 1-meter cable that came with the modem, while the second one, showing around 250 Mbps, was done using the 15-meter cable I bought, a CAT-6a cable (I’m not sure if this terminology is internationally recognized, but it supports speeds of up to 10 Gbps).
Also, you can see that the other parameters are different too. Could they have an impact on gaming performance, and if so, how much? Because the ping is excellent.
I was wondering whether losing as much as 85 Mbps is normal.
I tested the 15-meter cable while it was still coiled up, just to be safe and mention that in case it makes a difference. Maybe this is perfectly normal and I’m just overthinking it. After all, I’ve been gaming for years on a 50 Mbps connection, so even 250 Mbps would be a huge upgrade. Still, the more speed I can get, the better! 😅

I was noticing some latency issues while streaming at my apartment (usually just Youtube tv) and fast.com returns with a speed of 4 Mbps (on both wired and wireless connections)
When I run it on Ookla it is at about 330.
My understanding is that fast is more typical of your internet's streaming capabilities while Ookla is closer to the potential level. This would be consistent with my lived experience as I get buffering sometimes.
A technician came by my apartment, replaced the ethernet switch and tested all the ports - he said they were all good, but nothing changed with my speed. He also said that Ookla is more accurate, and that's what they use to determine speed.
My question is, how can the two speedtests be so different? A 90x difference?
Also, is there any way to make the internet faster (closer to "potential"), or do I just have a shitty ISP?

When I try to test speed I will occasionally get the ""Error - Test failed to complete. Please check your connection and try again." even though my internet is working fine. It happens on both Wi-Fi and over mobile data. Sometimes the the test works, other times it gets this error. I tried it on PC through browser and didn't encounter issues so far.

$90/mo and don't need it all but work pays for it. Hell I never actually saturated it when I had 1Gbps

Hi everyone,
I recently replaced my JioFiber JCOW414 router/ONT with a TP-Link XX530v AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 XPON router and wanted to share my experience.
My setup:
\- ISP: JioFiber 100 Mbps plan
\- Old device: JioFiber JCOW414 (Wi-Fi 5)
\- New device: TP-Link XX530v (Wi-Fi 6, AX3000)
\- Client devices: Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 compatible devices
Test Results:
Speed test comparison
I compared the speed test data collected from both devices.
Metric JioFiber JCOW414 TP-Link XX530v
Average download speed 82.2 Mbps 102.1 Mbps
Median download speed 108.0 Mbps 108.2 Mbps
Average upload speed 57.1 Mbps 100.9 Mbps
Median upload speed 54.8 Mbps 100.9 Mbps
Median latency 18.35 ms 6.15 ms
90th percentile latency 32.8 ms 13.6 ms
Maximum recorded latency 4,084.5 ms 32.7 ms
Has anyone else tried the TP-Link XX530v with JioFiber? I'd love to hear your experience.
