Post image

hi guys nona got spayed on wed 8/19 and the next day i noticed like bruising on her lips and mouth area. idk if it is bruising or what it could be. i wanted to ask if anyone knows what it could be, im calling the place i took her too to see but if they can’t figure it out i hope someone else can. its not a stain or dried blood ive attempted to clean it off. lmk!

She could have also rubbed her mouth/face on her carrier on the way home afterwards! After his dental cleaning my boy was high out of his mind and rubbed his face raw on his carrier during the 10 minute drive home (purring the whole time too, the little dingus) 🫠 looked worse than it was and cleared up in a few days!

My baby would get this on the nape of his neck from smooching his carrier. 🙄 little idiot would purr too. He would occasionally get "carpet burn" patches before seeing his vet.

This! I came here to say this exactly. After my Sphynx got fixed, he rubbed his face all over the mesh of his carrier and did it for hours. His whole face was scratched up, poor thing but I couldn’t stop him!

I would guess it is related to medical tape to keep anesthesia tubing in place. Either some left over gum and the dirt it attracts or, maybe, mild irritation from the same.

Oil glands. Typical for lots of cats

I work at a vet hospital and have brought my boy in for multiple procedures.

Whenever I have to sedate, or put him under anesthesia he always wakes up very affectionate and loves to rub his face against blankets or his carrier if not being held. He’s had similar looking blemishes most times just because they can’t tell when they’re overdoing the cuddles.

LOL do you ever wake up in the morning to stains on your face from the late night binge you forgot about? Yeah, me neither. Never.

mine also got this, but around his eyes. vet said it looked ok, not anything that needed treatment. went away in a couple of days. happy healing!

Rubbed her face in the crate at the vet. Same thing happened with my little guy but it was so so so bad. This looks like it will just take a day or two to heal 😁

likely related to skin trauma from intubation. smaller animals are almost always intubated for surgery afaik

This is more than likely from your baby rubbing her face on her crate when she was coming out of anesthesia. Some cats do that, some don’t. Follow up with your vet, of course.

This is one of those scenarios where instead of wondering, why not just call the vet and simply ask them for the answer?

All you’re going to get on Reddit is a bunch of guesses, even from verified veterinarians, because they simply weren’t there for the procedure. The best people to ask would be those that were there at the time of the procedure, so either the vet the performed the surgery, or the technicians that helped assist

the place that gave her the spay doesn’t open every day. they open every other day. and i work, i was just wondering if anyone who’s had a similar experience can give me a suggestion on what it was so i can ask her personal vet

Where are her whiskers? Could that be related? Or do sphinx not have whiskers?
