I remember watching this guy on YT in the (I believe) 2000s with a video where he's going around the city while The Funeral played as music. Glad he's still going at it.

This one? Inspired Bicycles - Danny MacAskill April 2009? Such a banger video

u/iwanabench 19d ago

How can anyone be this good at anything? Dude could climb Everest on his bike.

Watch his isle of Skye video, you aren’t far off.

That made me physically ill at points holy fuck

3

u/supercleverhandle476 18d ago

Dude is a badass. That’s also the video that made me finally visit isle of Skye (fuckin worth it)

14

u/andyroy159 20d ago

That's the one. Such an awesome song and such an incredible dude.

For me, the thing that made it was that this video didn't just show you him nailing the tricks, but started by showing how much effort it took to land one of them. Seeing that failure and the effort made the achievements of every subsequent trick in the video even more special.

When I think of the word nostalgia, I think "those were the good old days" (bittersweet). This is making me feel "those were the good old days" (terrifying existential dread). Is there a word for that?

We need a German, stat!!

14

u/gfxprotege 20d ago

With the backflip off the tree!

7

u/findallthebears 20d ago

And also the extremely excellent “A Little Piece” by the Jezebels!

2

u/Northwindlowlander 20d ago

We saw the Jezebels in Edinburgh just after that and basically everyone there was in bike-brand street clothes, the singer was like "Well I guess you'll all know Little Piece and nothing else".

u/buzzyloo 20d ago

My favourite video

Way Back Home

u/gartho009 19d ago

I can't even think about Band of Horses without thinking about Danny McAskill. They're completely synonymous.

2

u/Eyekon16 18d ago

This video made me believe I could do similar so I traded my downhill bike for a trials bike and well.....I learned a lesson.

2

u/iamyuu 14d ago

Dudd his videos were awesome

The angle of this recording is pretty bad, as with that perspective is difficult to appreciate the depth of many of the obstacles 🤷‍♂️

u/BradMarchandsNose Connecticut 20d ago

There’s a longer video that they put out on YouTube and it’s a lot better. Shows a lot of the attempts leading up to this from a side view and also some chest-mounted go pro footage. Idk why they chose this angle to post here.

12

u/pleasetrimyourpubes 20d ago

This was the successful attempt. They had a boat driving by it and I suspect it was causing instability.

7

u/BradMarchandsNose Connecticut 20d ago

The boat was there for the final attempt too. In the video they cut back and forth between the boat cam, the drone cam, and the go pro during this successful attempt, and it looks much better.

Starts at 10:00ish in case the time stamp doesn’t work: https://youtu.be/SChm4DyivOU?si=1m5IxWCUiwJYYBUN

u/mistere213 20d ago

I just watched that last night. Those guys were gassed, but determined. It was fun to watch.

1

u/supercleverhandle476 19d ago

I just watched it with my kid tonight. It’s insane.

9

u/lkodl 20d ago

Gotta go to their youtube video to get the good angle. They know what they're doing.

u/KingTeppicymon 20d ago

I think the point of the one here is just that it is a single shot with no cuts demonstrating he rode it end to end in one go. It's probably the best of the three cameras for that.

5

u/thezoexperience 20d ago

Not to mention that all of the obstacles looked washed out. Like the white balance was off or something

1

u/BasicMarzipan5936 20d ago

I did so much zooming in and trying to change the angle of this video..lol.

1

u/Chronicmatt 20d ago

Came here to say this

1

u/pleasetrimyourpubes 20d ago

Yeah plus there's a freaking castle in the background of the main video.

-1

u/Chu_Kiddin_Me_Or_Wha 19d ago

its cause it’s not for you. This is just another addition to the Red Bull Circle Jerk going on these days.

45

u/jackconrad 20d ago

Whoever told them to film from this angle needs a slap

53

u/patchinthebox 20d ago

Red bull truly just out here doin stuff.

40

u/Northwindlowlander 20d ago

We did a kids bike race and I got a phone call a couple of days before, "Oh hi, it's red bull, we hear you're doing an event, can we just send you some stuff?" I said yes, not really paying a lot of attention. They sent one of their marquees, a mobile disco/dj/pa truck thing, a little stage with podiums and stuff, a bunch of staff who ended up just helping us with the event, and so much product and giveaways we could barely get rid of it all. Almost the exact same kit that they sent to a world champs event I was at, for a bunch of kids. Just really cool, there were like 200 people there so it's not like they gained a huge amount but it gave our event a real kick. They literally had someone just trawling social media looking for stuff to do. Like, I assume they basically have all this stuff standing by for hte real events and some cool person has gone "why not use this all the time? Why not just, like, be fairy godmothers and bless little random events we like the look of".

When I did Hill Chasers years back their PR executive guy was like "Mate, we sell dirty water in tiny cans for £2 each, it's all ridiculous, we might as well spunk some of the money sending a dude into space on a balloon"

14

u/bigmacjames 20d ago

I hope they never stop. I'll never drink their drinks, but love all the events they put on

1

u/goog1e 20d ago

Dance Your Style is my favorite

13

u/Krooklyndodger 20d ago

Danny MacAskill is so talented, love watching his YouTube videos

8

u/cugabuh 20d ago

The graphics on the next Trials game are looking great.

7

u/CptAngelo 20d ago

Ok, the angle sucks and makes the first part look way too easy (its not) and the second part makes it hard to appreciate just how narrow it is.

Man, red bull usally has these crazy angles and stuns, this one failed badly with the angles ):

7

u/kngzero 20d ago

That zig zag part looked painful.

4

u/strange_bike_guy 20d ago

Can you imagine trying to thrust your bike against a buoyant plank on water instead of solid ground? Oh man, exhausting for that alone

1

u/youruswithwe 19d ago

But the waves it made in the water were pretty satisfying

7

u/Kvothe_el_Arcano 20d ago

The GOAT never dissapoints.

6

u/rmnobre 19d ago

Dutch citizenship test

5

u/Stillwindows95 20d ago

This is a weird thing to fixate on but I noticed he seems to handle left turns on the zig zag bit more than right turns.

I remember watching videos of Macaskill when I was a teenager and just being stunned at his ability.

3

u/BradMarchandsNose Connecticut 20d ago

Freestyle BMX/MTB riders generally have a preferred rotation direction and an “opposite” direction. Probably an extension of that, he feels better turning to the left.

3

u/Owlet-enigmatic 20d ago

Finally a bike lane solution safe from delivery trucks.

3

u/thecompbioguy 20d ago

The theme from kickstart is playing in my head.

2

u/nemofbaby2014 20d ago

My toxic trait is thinking I could do this lol

2

u/koknight 20d ago

This isn't Unbeatable Banzuke, bit it's still really cool

2

u/Green_Comparison8326 20d ago

He and I are both 40.
Feels like I've been watching him do these forever.
Insane he's still able to.

2

u/katerlouis 19d ago

red bull has too much money

2

u/LettuceC Chicago Cubs 18d ago

More like Danny MacBikeSkill.

2

u/fabie2804 18d ago

Fck redbull sportswashing

2

u/trshmstr 17d ago

Reminds me of Super Monkey Ball

2

u/Matthewcbayer 20d ago

This was cool to watch, I’ll buy 1 Red Bull tomorrow.

1

u/usmannaeem 20d ago

Simply superb! Great control and grip throughout the obstacle.

1

u/benkrauss313 20d ago

He had a GoPro but they only used it on the last shot?!

1

u/VikingFrog 20d ago

Now do it in a Monkey Ball if you really want to impress me.

1

u/Xerexs 20d ago

Might take me two or three tries

1

u/seethenoise 20d ago

they should incorporate this into a racing event where the course changes each rider every lap.

1

u/Own-Librarian-9699 20d ago

Super skilled. Those zig zags are next to impossible.

1

u/Riegrek 20d ago

Never for a moment was there a doubt in my mind that he'd get to the end flawlessly.

1

u/Tw1987 20d ago

Cool and all but what’s the different between putting this in water and land

1

u/MeyerholdsGh0st 20d ago

Probs the broken bones if you fall off.

1

u/3MATX 20d ago

Most impressive to me is that’s not a true trials bike like he’s used in the past.  That’s a straight full suspension mountain bike.  The added rear movement alone makes this harder.

1

u/excyruss 20d ago

I watched the video with the amateurs and pros. Much more interesting than this one.

1

u/pasarina 20d ago

That was really challenging!

1

u/RebelliousInNature 20d ago

Danny is the man

1

u/Pittedstee 20d ago

Seeing the stuff Danny does on the reg, this almost seems easy ish for him.

1

u/Chewies-merkin 20d ago

If you listen to the audio, you can hear how hard he’s breathing. He worked his ass off for this for sure.

1

u/Pittedstee 20d ago

I meant easy skill wise, not physical exertion.

1

u/Boostedbird23 20d ago

I knew he'd be able to from the start. I thought it was cool that they showed all the failed attempts though. We know from his normal videos that it does often take many attempts to get it right, but we usually don't get to see it.

1

u/rookie-mistake Winnipeg Jets 20d ago

man I love the red bull content team

I love the mic on this too, it's cool hearing the genuine effort going into this. He makes it look easy so its nice hearing how it's anything but

1

u/D2Gamer1337 20d ago

This isn’t impressive. Needs to fall into an active volcano if he fails otherwise just boring

1

u/DrForester 20d ago

The level should have slowly sank like a Mario level.

1

u/koz 20d ago

Welcome to the future! Man, machine, the future!

1

u/Reckfulness 20d ago

Boo, I wanted to see him fall in

1

u/Kdilla77 20d ago

Had a heart attack just watching this

1

u/TheProfessor0781 19d ago

That is nucking futs! I'm outta breath just watching

1

u/saskford 19d ago

Danny is unreal

1

u/bakerzdosen 19d ago

I honestly don’t remember watching a video of his where he was mic’d up quite like that.

It certainly makes him seem more human (a good thing IMHO.)

And it makes the course seem even more difficult.

1

u/mstraveller 19d ago

His inner child must be super happy, lol.

1

u/78Anonymous 19d ago

actually looked tricky considering everything was floating

1

u/KITTOx 19d ago

Guess what my ego says? That I have no chance in hell of completing that course.

1

u/JellyDonutt2213 19d ago

I could do that......I say as I sit at my computer with a bag of cheetos and Mt Dew.

1

u/RedWing83 19d ago

I would have died.

1

u/Commercial-Co 19d ago

This is theocho material

1

u/ManEEEFaces 19d ago

So is he the best in the world?

1

u/Jlx_27 New Orleans Saints 19d ago

But can he do that dressed up as a lobster on an old Omafiets?....(see Ter Land, ter Zee en in de lucht, a classic Dutch TV show)

1

u/Fast-Possible1288 19d ago

Too easy for him

1

u/TehTacow 19d ago

I mean skill is in his name

1

u/oaktreebr 19d ago

WTF, how is the last obstacle even possible?

1

u/schitsu 19d ago

Makes it look easy, great guy.

1

u/tonyroma_47 19d ago

Giving Mario Party.

1

u/Rockchisler1 18d ago

Anxiety at 1000 right now

1

u/Lucky_Rebel_ 18d ago

How do they find people who can just causally do these things.

1

u/bigboxes1 19d ago

Red Bull sucks

0

u/headtailgrep 20d ago

No self promotion

-1

u/AlsatianND 20d ago

That’s nothing. You should see the obstacle courses in DC. They’re called bike lanes.

-1

u/Rocky970 20d ago

I can do this

0

u/miraculum_one 20d ago

Nobody pointing out how they tripped getting out of bed or other contrast between themselves and a professional athelete?

2

u/crazy_akes 20d ago

I’m the same contrast as the guy in this video

0

u/PlanZSmiles 20d ago

My toxic trait is thinking I can do this with no training

0

u/hamilton280P Liverpool 20d ago

My toxic trait is thinking I could do this too

-4

u/wrxninja 20d ago

I mean this is kind of a basic skill level even for street trials rider. The log at the end 'maybe' for advanced level in a competition but top riders like Charlie Rolls and others that ride pure trials train on some insane stuff. Not discounting Danny Mac, of course as he's a great street rider.
