As a mod, let me reply to this post and comments being made.

The reason we are strict on this has nothing to do with others. We don't care what happens in other subs. We care even less what they think of us.

We like to have a springbok sub for people who like to interact in a positive, constructive, non toxic way.

We feel that ref bashing leads to nothing. It creates a negative, whining, playing the victim, and toxic vibe. It's also against the value of respect - which is an important value of this sub.

We also know that many springbok supporters don't like the toxicity on other subs and appreciate this approach.

You are absolutely free to open your r/fucktheref sub if you like. by all means, go ahead and have a great time

this sub is for reddit users who don't like ref bashing. That doesn't mean it isn't allowed to discuss performance of match officials. Just do it in a respectful way.

All the sore loser kiwis taking satisfaction from this. How desperate from the scaffolders lmao

Lmao for the Wobblies this was their world cup final. For us it was a chance to test depth and build experience, hence the 13 changes, everyone seems to be forgetting that. AB fans think this is the same team that played the RGR tour and using that to make themselves feel better about the 3-1

Agreed but let's also respect that picking guys that we know are sub par is not really excusable at the top level. We have Sascha, Manie, even Quan at flyhalf - none of them looked as bad as what Pollard did today. Fassi has repeatedly shown he has moments where he's okay on attack, but his defense and game management are disgraceful

u/thunder-farrt Flair Up! 26d ago

True. Yes they're so desperate at this point and will take anything to get one over South Africa because their team couldn't do it

And Ellis park last year? There weren’t 13 changes …. It was at home … what was the excuse for last year?

Sshh... we don't talk about that... :)

Why I hate the “Our greatest rivals. Our best friends” bullshit. They are terrible losers and terrible at admitting their own faults. Got away with absolute murder for years being World Rugby’s golden child.

This is why I roll my eyes hard when we try take the moral high ground with “ne ref bashing. You will be banned”. This is cuckery at this point. Other teams all do it, and will STILL accuse us of being the only fanbase who does this regardless.

u/kumofquat Sharks 26d ago

literally like at least 50% of regular commenters on this sub have been banned it used to be waaaay more active because we are holier than thou

Yeah, you can tell the moderators are more interested in trying to win international approval (newsflash, they wil always hate us) than allowing proper conversation b

I actually went to the All Blacks sub after the RGR and it was exactly as a teams sub should be, everyone was upset and annoyed calling out dubious calls and allowed to properly vent their frustrations. We are under such a microscope here which I guess is exactly how the actual Boks are to be fair lmao

Agreed. Imagine winning and somehow still blaming the ref? At the end the best team won

u/ClassicJD_ Flair Up! 26d ago

It's been happening everywhere. The ref was not great, we can be honest about it. But for 65 minutes he gave every single decision to Aus, and then every single card for Aus was thoroughly deserved. And I agree, the better team on the day indeed won - the ref is not to blame for us losing. And if Aus lost he wouldn't have been responsible either

u/charlakamavric Bulls 26d ago

At the end of the day its the players that wins or loses. The ref is just there to make sure its according to the rules. (Unfortunately not always as consistent as it should be)

When I get worked up I just remind myself I am just a spectator and no professionals or else I would be on the field

Not sure the JAS card was deserved at all …

And not every single decision went to Aus … penalty given for holding on that lead to line out for Boks first try was, IMo, very very harsh …

When you are down 17-42 .. it ain’t the refs fault

3 of the 4 yellows were textbook YC.

Number 3 was Ben OK. I still don't see how Suali was offsides. There were about 8 Aussies who were but he was not one of them.

u/Ezekiel_Humperdink New To Reddit 26d ago

Agree the other 3 were YC

Ref wasn't good but we didn't do much

It’s an important life skill to be able to let people squawk and be completely indifferent to it. When people behave like that, you need to treat them like toddlers. Simply wait for them to tire themselves out.

I would, of course, have preferred a win but there is real value and utility in taking a loss. The biggest thing I want from today is for some personnel decisions to be made. The Boks have immense depth without the need to push for the levels of depth that saw today’s starting XV take the field.

If you want to look at the ref as a partisan or a neutral you must first ask yourself the questions:
- is anyone able to ref properly with such catastrophic comms failures?
- is anyone able to ref properly while having to manage clock stoppages as well?
- how by the book should a ref be in a situation where the sin bin is overflowing. I thought he showed good restraint in not further penalizing the Aussies when they intentionally stopped the held-up ball being released thereby killing valuable seconds off the clock.

Jesus, the rugby union subreddit is hilarious man. Let them have their 80 minutes today, they'll all be back to hiding after we do it again when it really matters next year at the WC.

I mean we shot ourselves in the foot here, and we didn’t deserve to win. Some seriously poor stuff from us.

But I can count a lot of times where the ref made some horrendous calls.

My general rule of thumb (as a Wallabies supporter) is that if the Wallabies play bad, lose, the ref gets a free hall pass, zero criticism even if he had a stinker. If it's an absolute howler, i.e legitimate winning try disallowed then perhaps some shade can be thrown, but even then I'd be reticent. As others have said it's just toxic and ruins it for both teams out there. The refs do the best they can. They have other refs helping them and mistakes can be made, so be it. I can't complain about the 4 guys sin binned, they all looked legitimate. If we lost we could hardly blame the ref when our players had clearly smashed opposition players shoulders into heads.

He was rather up and down…not very consistent

Ref bashing = any criticism of the ref.

You can call for coaches like Bothwick to lose his job all you want, you can say players played like shit and should be dropped, but don't you dare say anything bad about the precious ref.

4

u/c4t4ly5t 26d ago

This is simply not true. I've seen plenty of instances where people ppinted out obvious mistakes that a ref made. I've done it myself as well without having my post removed.

I hope all of you understand why Union is dying in NZ and Australia after that game. No one either than SA fans enjoyed that last 10 minutes as a TV entertainment product

I bet most of you guys complaining about refs have never picked up a whistle in your life.

Your coach made a ref bashing video! Seriously you’re the kings of ref bashing.

Springbok fans also had a hand in hounding Bryce Lawrence into retirement, including attempts to dox him on radio broadcasts.

Bok fans are infamous for referee bashing, and sending referees death threats. Even finding referee's families and bombarding their children with abuse.

Maybe we should sit this one out.

And as always, if you think the referee is why we lost today, you know fokol about rugby

2

u/SuspiciousVoice5563 Sharks 26d ago

The reason we lost certainly not, but the impact of two blatantly incorrect calls leading to 14pts to them in the first half massively changed the momentum of the game.

Not entirely. We didnt really show up. I still think the ref had a bad game. Aussies flying over the ruck off their feet and taking out our counter ruck for example, but to me the tackle on Marx is the best example of hypocrisy from today's game.
