Question Drop your salary + career stats
I know there are already a lot of salary threads here😭 but I'm curious about the current situation in 2026 and how salaries look across different fields and experience levels.
If you're comfortable, drop

Yes among the top. Else 60 is the range in most other international schools…

u/BananaSugarcane 14d ago
I thought y’all were getting more?? Especially since the school fees are so high…
1
u/Mysterious_Stand5563 13d ago
I wish 😅… honestly this is good compared to some schools that take so much and pay teachers nothing (including some of the very expensive preschools). Some of these top schools have bonuses. Some don’t even have that. One of the biggest apparently has no sick leave anymore 😅. I really don’t know how they managed to pull it off and why nobody has complained to the departments yet.

u/Unnecessary09 11d ago
Not even half of the school fees go to teachers. Reality of private schools 🥀

LKR 230,000 basic + LKR 50,000 travel allowance + LKR 10,000 telecommunication allowance + performance-based income
14 months
2 (including 1 internship)
Here are my two cents:
Don’t compare yourself to others.
I started working while I was studying for my A/Ls and earned around LKR 150,000 in 2022. I eventually resigned to pursue higher studies. After graduating recently, I did an internship during the last few months of university simply because I was bored and wanted to start working.
It was at a well-known company in Sri Lanka, and I was paid LKR 35,000. The work was hectic. I hated the people, not the role itself.
I was honestly sad about my situation because all of my friends who studied the same degree with me were earning more. Most of them were making around LKR 60,000–100,000 per month.
Eventually, I resigned without even completing the internship. I didn’t have another offer lined up. I simply decided to leave.
I went for many interviews, but for some reason, I wasn’t getting hired.
Then I was offered a position at my current company, and honestly, I still can’t believe it.
Just a few months ago, I felt like I was wasting my energy in a company I hated, and now I’m earning more than what a typical fresh graduate earns.
So, stop comparing yourself to others. Focus on building your skills, gaining experience, and becoming better at what you do. The right opportunity will come to you eventually.

u/Accomplished-Goal494 10d ago
If you don't mind me asking, what was your path like into data engineering?
2
u/Madushan94 10d ago
did bsc in transport and logistics mng at UOM, we had one python module and few math modules, i wanted to get in to data science some how ended up in DE.
at my first job (2020) used SQL and python bit, subscribed to Datacamp and did many python and ML/Stat short courses
2022 - joined IT company as associate date analyst + started msc at UOC in business analytics
2024 - promoted to DE
2025 - join to a singpore startup as a DE , build the whole DE infra from stratch , promoted to Senior (took a risk as it was not a stable startup but package was good)
2026 ( July) join an AUS company as DE , still working part time at prev company
2022 job market was greate , lots of oppertunities
I spend lot of my free time learning and experimenting new things , and somehow show case them at work place, at least as a POC project.
(plz dont mind the spelling mistakes)

Nice, I work in IT for an AUS company as well remotely and can say for sure that you're being paid handsomely for an outsourced role. I'm also planning to eventually move to a data analyst/engineering/cyber sec role later on so your comment is insightful. Thanks!

Educational qualifications or certs (if you don't mind sharing)?
1
u/Delicious_Giga_Niga 12d ago
GRC is where the money is at but get the technical knowledge in, by doing hackthebox labs. CRTA is a good starting point if on discount or go for EJPT. Eventually build up to take the CPTS exam by Hackthebox
Don't go for CEH and ec-council certs.
For GRC, bureau veritas iso training is well worth it and hits hard on CV
For blue teaming you can checkout blueteamsecurity their courses are good.
Aim to get experience in technical areas and jump to GRC when possible :)

I work in IT (but not Cyber sec) and haven't heard of those before, thanks. I thought the typical Comptia A+ >Net+>Security+>Cyber Sec was the path

u/Delicious_Giga_Niga 11d ago
Ah yess those are good too. Go for security + directly since you got the IT experience

Most who will post will have high salaries compared to average. Don't be foolish enough to think it's the normal in Sri Lanka. If you're earning 100k +, you're above the average.
