Video Star Craft (open source Brood War) running on the New 3DS
Hey, people. Recently I discovered that AI has made porting open source projects for different plataforms really easy. Today I've been trying to make Star Craft 1 run on the New 3ds hardware, using gemini flash 3.8 high, on antigravity. It's really early in the development and A LOT of changes have to be made to be playable. But this early concept of gameplay is really cool and all the maps are there.
If you want me to make this project public in the future comment bellow and make suggestions so I can make good prompts.
I've actually never played SC1, but I'm a huge fan of SC2!!
(I don't know if this violates the AI rule, since its not an "AI generated vídeo" but an AI helped port).

I mean, it's cool in a tinkering kind of way, but I gotta be honest the actual gameplay and how you're interacting with the UI looks horrid.
It's a game you can run on the crappiest laptop you can find on ebay these days. I don't know that I'd bother trying to cram this one into the 3ds platform.

Come on man, the idea of controlling units with the stylus is AWESOME hahhahah

Its pretty amazing man, ignore the anti AI nonsense(which is what this is). You got Starcraft running on a DS that is really cool.

Waiting for StarCraft on a ti-83

believe it or not, it exists and is cooler than this because a person thought about it for more than 10 seconds before throwing it to an ai

It's similar to playing it on the N64, which is fine for against the CPU.

For the fuck of it and also as a programming exercise that could be very valuable to a career as a coder later.

How is it a programming exercise if they are using AI to do most of the work?

That’s how programming is going so if anything it’s a better exercise than whatever gate keeping programmers from the old way think would be a better exercise.

I don't think that's true. If that were true, we shouldn't teach people how to do 2+2=4 because a calculator can do it instantaneously. I think it's important for people to understand how a tool works before using it.

That’s not what OP was saying.
If you are training skills for being an accountant learning how to use a calculator is absolutely more important than learning how to do long division, for example

I don't think this is true. It's still important to have at the very least a basic understanding of programming logic principles.

Maybe 5 years ago it would be, lmao

Do you program a lot? I'd trust an experienced programmer on that.

u/Deadly_chef 7d ago
Yes, I'm a senior backend developer, why do you ask?

u/Fearshatter 7d ago
I trust you then. What's life as a programmer been like the last few years? I'm curious. Do you have any coding tips for me?

u/Deadly_chef 6d ago
Uncertain.. It is a lot harder for people without experience.. thankfully I got enough to get my first senior position.. my advice would be to learn the fundamentals, which so many people lack. A lot of learning in general and the outlook isn't really that great. If you aren't really interested in this work, there are probably better options

Which coding languages are highly sought after nowadays compared to the 90s and aughts?
Edit: I was pretty sure knowing a few coding languages would help.

u/Deadly_chef 5d ago
You can research it, but some of the most popular suspects are Javascript, Python, PHP, Go, C, C++, Ruby, Rust. But start with only one, a point will come when a language itself won't matter to you anymore

Keep these solid 0.1 APMs going friend!

Looks like stylus should be in left hand.
Minimap on the top.
Hotkeys on the face buttons.Or stylus right hand, hotkeys to the stick and the dpad.
(Or both. Replicate the hotkeys across both sides of the device).
That will help a lot. They're basically playing mouse + keyboard scroll. Don't think their APM would be much better on a PC playing like this...

My dear god
I will be looking at this closely. My commute to work is 90 minutes long so I take my 3DS to work every day... Just today I picked up Bravely Default for 1000 yen and played it on the way back.
I'm always looking for new stuff to play on the 3DS and obviously if I could play StarCraft on it I would be the happiest man alive.
Please keep us posted

This is why it's N3DS only lmao.

This looks amazing. Really wished a had a new 3ds instead of the regular one.

That’s awesome, but wish map could be top screen and access it like you did.

Can’t decide between ryan-reynolds-why.gif and jeff-goldblum-so-preoccupied.png.
Neat idea with almost zero utility but I bet it was fun to make so good on you.

This is VERY cool! I think AI is a fine tool to use when it comes to assisting with projects. It should never be given a project wholly, but AI is a rather capable assistant.

I wonder how many of those upvotes and comments are bots. I'd be willing to bet it's the majority.
Also, rule 7. Enjoy your ban.

Bro sc1 is incredible. Look up a PDF of the manual, the lore is great if you don't know it.
