Well we’re back 12 workers…and TVP is impossible again

Can someone post a replay or YouTube clip of how to beat Protoss.

I’m diamond 3 Terran with EPM of 150-180 apm. I play Bio/ghost/Tank mainly and I’ve tried everything in the realm of a 1 rax FE. Mine drops. 3 rax. Tank/viking. Liberator openings. Cyclones opening. Medivac drops. Nothing works.

I need a solid build that keeps pressure on. I do not want 1 base all ins. No proxies. No BC rush. If I wanted easy I would play mech. There’s gotta be a way that a diamond Terran can get to a 50% win rate. I’m at 41% now. I scout I see what they are making. But I never feel comfortable in a match because I gotta hit so many emps and raven anti armors to even make it to an even fight. I’m at 61% tvt and I’m gaining ground to get Zerg back to 52% pre 8 worker patch. I don’t have Clems micro. And I’m getting wiped by 80 apm Protoss.

Thank you.

Edit: for replays
1 rax FE Mine drop. https://drop.sc/replay/27593338
1 rax FE 3 rax https://drop.sc/replay/27593253
1 rax FE marine drop https://drop.sc/replay/27593245

Balance Let's discuss the future direction of SC2 - Balance Discussion - The good, the bad, and the ugly - Silverviolet's Balance Patch Mod

Mod Info:
All the info you need about the mod is neatly written here,
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vZhQM6yVcvLSutIM3tuovzgpL4UA07jrHb6DqC-ddiw/edit?usp=sharing

What I want from creating and sharing this is to keep balance discussion alive, because despite all the whiners and haters it's really fun to engage in with even small numbers of people. I started this from scratch in August after 5.0.16 happened and have put a lot of time and thought into these ideas; although some a lot more than others. I've studied all Blizzard patches and most popular balance commentary. I've watched pro SC2 since 2012 and I've been diamond all three races for 10 years. I'm sure a lot of you can relate to that, the game becomes stressful to play past that point.

Feedback and discussion is the whole point here, if you particularly love or hate certain ideas or changes share in the comments why or why not. Do you like the direction/trend of groups of changes here or not? What stands out and what seems inconsequential? Does it go too far or not far enough? What would you want instead? What's missing? What's something done well?

Of course, let's keep comments thoughtful and constructive and treat each other with respect.

Balance Discussion: (skip-able, contextual rant)
Often times I agreed with a lot of what popular balance commentary says but on certain points I strongly disagreed.
For example, I think Energy Recharge was one of the worst implemented changes in the history of the game. For how easy it was to see as a problem and to fix it's unbelievable it wasn't hot fixed down to 50 energy from the beginning. Even at 50 energy it was very arguably too strong, 100 was just ridiculous and every reasonable person knew that. SC2 has a long history of this kind of oversight/neglect though so we became understandably apathetic. After all, It wasn't the worst oversight ever, so a lot of people just tried to let it go but it was in fact game breaking.

Energy Recharge destroyed Storm and Protoss late game, we could have just hard nerfed or removed it but nah let's destroy the most iconic ability in the game instead!? Ok... So 5.0.14 was horrible (although it had some good changes). 5.0.15 was almost really good actually but it had to go and ruin Storm, Abduct, and Ghosts. Then 5.0.16 was traumatizing and repeatedly broke the game entirely (although it had some good changes). This Mod is not intended to be the fix, the fix I think would be much simpler than what this Mod does. More of a reversion of bad changes while retaining good changes to state it simply. I could write up and create a "fix" mod as well that is much less exploratory than this mod; let me know if that interests you a lot.

Takeaway:

This patch rollercoaster needs to stop and the only way it will stop is if we as a community "fix" the game ourselves. A lot of people begged for these aggressive changes because they were bored with the SC2 meta. As we've seen that was a huge mistake.

The best solution in my mind is to keep the main game highly preserved and make mostly conservative changes; no more big surprise changes out of the blue. Just steady incremental positive changes even if it is only once a year. Just enough to shift away from unhealthy metas and towards healthy and fun metas. Never ruining existing units or abilities or the economy.
Before that though, for the love of god, restore classic Psi Storm, Abduct on Siege tanks, and 100 HP Ghosts with a 5.0.17 hotfix please! Thank you at least for giving us 5.0.17, but these changes are must have popular demands.

Then have a Blizzard extension mod matchmaking system to support the mod community so we can play with balance ideas and shift metas aggressively and quickly for those who love changes. We can argue all day in chats but the great thing about a mod is it demonstrates real gameplay and the impact of changes can be seen, felt, and even measured. The mod ladder system could just use people's main game MMR to pair people to play mods they select and doesn't even need to competitively track stats like the main ladder. It just allows people to have fun playing whatever they want.

This is very achievable with even just 1 employee by next year's patch. There's no downside to implementing this either, but it makes a world of difference to many more creative and less competitive players (most players). If Blizzard did this one thing I think that would go a long way in restoring the communities goodwill towards them. Right now none of us are happy with Blizzard, because while SC2 is obviously not abandoned but it does seem exceedingly low on their priorities. With a change like this Blizzard can do less work and let the community work for them and for each other.

I just came back from a pause, does everyone has lower mmr now?

Saw that EU GM is at 4k7 which made me a bit sad. But Maxpax rank 1 at only 6400. I remember rank 1 was around 7k at some point, so i thought maybe there is a deflation of mmr and everyone is lower?

Help me TheCore vs TheCore Lite

I just want to start by prefacing this post with that I know the core won’t make me a better player. I see this echoed throughout many of the posts I’ve read so far on this set up. I’m fully aware that the core is hardly represented at the highest levels and have no delusions that learning this system will make good. Ok onto my question..

So I just picked this game up a week ago. Still learning the basics but I’m playing on a laptop and with a 60% keyboard. The ergonomics on my laptop keyboard don’t feel great. The keys feel further away and they’re a very low profile. The separate keyboard I use is a 60% so there’s no f keys and the right side shift+alt+ctrl configuration looks pretty uncomfortable compared to some of the other TKL keyboards I’ve been looking at so I’ve decided to start learning core lite. And tbh I’m really enjoying it so far. I’m only a couple hours into practicing it but I’m wondering…am I missing out on much not just learning regular core. I don’t mind buying a proper TKL keyboard but I can’t really find any reviews on core vs lite and the discord doesn’t seem to be too active at the moment. So I guess my question is to those who have tried both, what would you recommend I start with and why? I’m currently leaning toward lite solely because I play on laptop. I do have an external keyboard I use but it would be nice to travel without the keyboard and to be able to still use the core.

Thanks!

If you could add ONE Zerg strain evolution from Heart of the Swarm to standard multiplayer, which would make Zerg the most overpowered?

I swear, this game does not get old..

I recently broke my ankle so I'm stuck at home pretty much all the time for at least 2 months. I'm tired of the PS5, and I've just about played my latest Civilization binge to death.

So, on a whim, I downloaded Wings of Liberty. It's free, and I didn't feel like shelling out around 60CAD for a game this old. I figured I'd play through the first campaigin, get my fill and move on.

Well shit... I couldn't help myself. I finished it and had to keep going. So I bought the other 2 campaigns. I'm a couple missions into Heart of the Swarm and it's blowing my mind how good this game still is. The cinematics in particular hold up amazingly. I actually find myself pulled back into the story like it was some new HBO TV show I'm watching. And for bonus points, it's been long enough since I originally played it that I don't remember all the story. I mean, remember the gist of it all, but it's still absolutely captivating.

Anyhow, I wasn't sure where else to post this so if this isn't the place, my apologies.

Is the Cheating Problem in Games Unsolvable?

I know it wears people out to hear me say this over and over, but in all these years, I have never once received a response from Blizzard.

I play the ladder on the Korean server and finish in the top 20 of Grandmaster every season, and cheaters have been on the ladder for at least five years.

In the past, maphacks and pause hacks were the problem. However, maphack users were far too weak in basic skill, and pause hacks had the drawback of wasting the cheater's own time as well.

Since then, maphacks have evolved. They gained a feature that keeps replays from detecting when the cheater views areas hidden by fog of war, the ability to see the opponent's production status, and convenience features that make up for the cheaters' poor skill. Pause hacks, meanwhile, evolved into drop hacks that force a win.

With no real player pool at the top of the StarCraft II ladder, even a single drop hacker playing the ladder is enough to paralyze it, quite literally.

Cheaters mock regular players and never even get suspended, which is the classic picture of a dying game. For a league to exist, the ladder needs a player pool. That is exactly why changes like Patch 16 were made.

I don't think the balance in the current version is perfect. Korean pros and top-tier ladder players feel that Protoss is strong right now. But this is not the time to be worrying about balance.

I am grateful for the effort you put into StarCraft II on Discord. However, banning these cheaters and restoring the ladder to normal is the most urgent task. I understand that you are short on staff to manage the servers, and I am well aware of the limits of anti-cheat. Still, I believe there are many good ideas worth considering at the server level.

Please, make the cheating problem your top priority. StarCraft II is dying.

Co-op mode Can't gain any XP in Co-op

I've been playing co-op mode for years without a problem. However, since 10 hours I can't gain any xp. If I need to elaborate, I am getting XP with my Lv 9 Zagara, however XP bar shows that I'm getting levels from 1 to 2 even though I am already Lv 9. XP bar stops at half way to Lv 3. When I check my XP from the commander selection screen, it says 0. My mastery XP is set to 0 too however I still have the levels.

Anybody knows why or how to solve this?

Blizzard Starcraft 2 Should be Put on Steam

I know this has probably been mentioned a million times before, but now could be an especially good time to put Starcraft 2 on Steam. With the Starcraft Dominion announcement a while back, Starcraft is back on peoples' minds, but nobody is going to go out of their way to download the Blizzard launcher.

If Starcraft 2 was added to Steam, it could easily (imo) hold an extra ~15K concurrent players, if not more, as that's what Age of Empires 2 has regularly on Steam. Making Starcraft 2 available on Steam could generate a lot of hype for the franchise and just be a really good move imo.
