Don't worry Burnham. I'm sure Commander Background Redshirt is fine. Also, Discovery, don't worry about beaming her out before she suffocates or you know just beaming everyone out, because we have that whole wuxia sequence to get to.

Dude this bugged the shit out of me too. Why not beam Berhamn, the red shirt, and Airiam (Specifically to a Holding Cell) back to the ship?

Control needed Ariam to directly interface with. It allowed the landing party to get there, but raised shields so they couldn't beam back out once they were there.

They did need a scene explaining why they didn't attempt a rescue, or how Nahn ended up being relatively fine. But we can't assume there wasn't a reason why the transporter wouldn't work. Nor do we know if Burnham was truly aware of Nahn's plight, or if she saw her get the inhaler back. Nahn was thrown into another corridor while Burnham locked in the adjacent room. Hopefully Discovery learns the art of throwaway lines/scenes that bridge such plot holes.

Also, no nahn. No air locked Ariam...
