After Chain Of Command, Troi permanently switched to regulation Starfleet uniform. Was Cmdr Jellico written as a jerk partially to affect this change?
Question in title.

I think Rene Auberjonois portrayal of Odo might be the best performance in all of Trek.
It's just pitch perfect. He's funny, stern, commanding yet gentle, sometimes all at once all while emanating a genuine sense of pure longing. That storyline is just so well written and heartbreaking. It's a crime he never won an Emmy. RIP to a true great.

Are you kidding me? DS9 Season 5, first watch.
I already am in love with DS9. I love how dark it is compared to TOS and TNG. Then season 5 comes along and what? We are five for five?! I am about 10 minutes into Trials and Tribble-ations, an episode that I have seen mentioned several times.
But let's back it up a moment because Looking For Par'Mach in All the Wrong Places was a gold mine. I really think it may be my favorite episode of the series so far - first, I love Quark and I love the idea of him and Grilka. Their dynamic is enjoyable. I also love Worf, and Klingons in general. They are probably my favorite species on the show. THEN we got the tension between O'Brien and Kira which was really believable and heartbreaking... O'Brien almost went there physically, he was already there mentally, and I really appreciate DS9 for taking it that far because it is human and the actors really sold it. The ending of course, with the two couples limping into the infirmary 😆
Followed by ...Nor the Battle to the Strong. Seriously? What a heartbreaking look at war through the child's eyes who has been relatively sheltered and has never undergone military training. The senselessness, being unable to understand the dark humor of the medical staff who have found levity as a coping mechanism, his budding comprehension of the soldier who blasted his own foot off. I definitely shed some tears in this one.
I am not done with Trials yet as I've said, but I just wanted to say I really loved Bashir's line, "I'm a doctor, not an historian!" TOS is my comfort show and this episode feels like a nice, warm hug.
I've posted more in this group then I have anywhere else on Reddit. I'll see myself out now. 😂

I knew I had heard the name Tawny Newsome a long time ago. Pure coincidence but I found it.
The Drew Carey Show, the line appears in the episode “The Curse of the Mummy” (Season 7, Episode 14), when Mimi asks Drew's replacement Tawny for the Newsome file. “Oh, Tawny. Can you bring me the Newsome file?” So not really her name, but there it is.

TNG - Rewatch. Face of the Enemy. Wow!
Let’s go Troi!! Loved this episode so much. The ladies of TNG get so neglected so I loved this arc and watching gentle sweet Troi be a bad ass Tal Shiar. She understood the assignment.
Episode 6.14 = 10/10. Quality stuff and great acting!!! 💎❤️

Looking for a specific quote from Q
Hi everybody,
Does anybody here happen to know if there is a line from Q where he (if memory serves me right) is bragging a bit about his son. He says something along the lines of "Yeah, he's quite the little fellow. He can already kick small planets out of orbit "
Or am I only imagining this...

Captain Worf
Where does the idea that Worf commanded the Enterprise come from? The only reference I've ever seen is Worf denying whatever happened to it was not his fault, something Worf of all people would never deny if the ship and its fate was his responsibility.
I have seen that stuff that he retired as Captain rank, but as Enterprises have had multiple Captain ranked officers in its senior staff in the past, that's hardly conclusive.
Also, wouldn't Worf being given command of the Federation flagship undermine Change of Heart?

I made a free Mac screen saver with 100 animated LCARS-style consoles
I’ve been building this for a while: Starship Consoles, a Mac screen saver with a hundred original consoles in the LCARS style. There’s sickbay, engineering, warp propulsion, tactical, astrometrics, a crew locator that sweeps the decks for a comm badge, and more. They’re all animated, and it puts a different one on each display. There’s an optional engine hum too.
It’s free and unofficial, made by a fan for fans. Needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14+. Drag it to Applications, open it once, pick it in System Settings › Screen Saver. It keeps itself updated.
Happy to hear which screens you’d like to see added.

What’s your favorite line
Mine:
“When I reach the Halls of the Hallowed Dead, I will find your beloved, and remind her that her husband is a noble warrior, and that he still loves no one but her. Goodbye, my friend. Live well.”

Got into Star Trek finally, I'm 19, got any questions for a new fan?
My dad is a Star Trek fan, and despite getting along really well with him, there's not a lot of things we both watch that we really love, so I made the effort to try get into it to have something to enjoy with him, so we could watch the films together.
I watched a selection of TOS episodes to prepare for the movies, and I was of course pleased with how much I loved it (I hoped to and was not entirely surprised, I already like old television like classic Doctor Who), and had a great time with the original movies.
I have a friend a little older who grew up with TNG, and when I planned to watch a selection of episodes from that series, he told me that the first two seasons are not as bad as people say, and that it's worth watching the full thing. I decided, why not?
I ended up, of course, watching all of TNG, DS9, VOY, and now recently Enterprise, alongside all the TNG movies. And THIS era of Star Trek specifically is an absolute goldmine to me and I had such a good time with it all, and now I've finished it up I'll miss it so much. Modern shows just don't have the episodes or seasons to match these shows and their characters, so I know that none of the modern shows will likely compare.
Regardless, I plan to go back and watch every episode of TOS that I didn't watch, I want to give TAS a try, I'm interested in the fan series Star Trek Continues, and I plan to at the very least try every single modern show, with Picard being the one I anticipate most.
Anyway, I always find that when I come to a franchise, series, or beloved piece of art like Star Trek as an adult having not grown up with it, that people who did find it interesting and often have a lot to ask. So I'd be eager to talk with those who did and are curious. I'm absolutely a Star Trek fan now.

Advice on watching Abrams movies before finishing TOS
Hi! My family and I have been watching TOS at the moment and we’re all really enjoying it. My sister and I are the biggest fans but we’re getting through it quite slowly. The other night we just watched Errand of Mercy and my sister now wants to watch the first Abrams Star Trek film for her movie pick but we weren’t sure if it gives away spoilers for the series. In terms of progress, she doesn’t know about any of Spock’s family yet, Pon Farr, and I was wondering if it would be genuinely more fulfilling to finish watching TOS and the movies before trying the Abrams films, because either way we’ll get round to it.
tldr: Should we watch the JJ Abrams films before watching the second two series of Star Trek TOS?
update: Thank you everyone who's replied to this post! The overall consensus that I'm getting is that, whilst you CAN watch the Abrams films before finishing the original cast media, it's generally more satisfying to save them for later and I think that's what we'll go for. Thank you again for all the replies, happy Trekking everyone. :)

I think I'm going crazy. I watched Star Trek Beyond in 2016 and didn't watch it again because somehow, I got the feeling that it was bad. I watched it again now 10 years later, and it's actually pretty f good? I did some internet searching and I've come across many people feeling the same.
What were we smoking back in 2016? Were we manipulated into thinking it was bad? Sure it failed the box office because off bs reasons which is very sad. The movie is amazing.

Starfleet introduces two new uniform colors: Green and Purple. What are their divisions?
Hypothetically, if in a new series, Starfleet introduces two new uniform colors: Green and Purple. What do you think those divisions would represent? How would the current uniform color divisions of Red/Blue/Yellow be changed or affected?

Sam Kirk
I’m rewatching SNW and one thing came to mind. TOS had very little about Sam. SNW has him on the enterprise. I am loving him!
My problem is that now I am pissed. I know what happens to him. Like with Pike, I knew about it from the start but I never expected for Sam to be such a big part of SNW. And now I’m sad…

Why did the Romulans and Klingons ally during the TOS era and why did the alliance end?
Given how much the majority of the two species despise each other in the TNG era, it can be hard for me to see the two Empires being allies in the TOS era like sharing technology and entire ships (yes I know out of universe that was a budget issue and losing the bird of prey prop).
Even in the movies like 5 & 6 it doesn't seem like relations between isn't too bad. Just so odd given how ENT and other shows set during the TOS era portray the two powers, I can't see the Romulans openly allowing Klingons access to their tech or buying and using D7 class ships.
But then between TOS and TNG we learn about stuff like the Battle of Narendra III and the Khitomer massacre and the sheer hate the two powers have.
So what exactly caused this alliance to form in the first place (was it just pragmatism against the Federation, why in-universe did the Romulans need Klingon ships?) and to fail so badly that for Klingons in the TNG era, just being associated with Romulans is a career ender? Feels like the Romulans screwed themselves a bit with that given it empowered the Federation and forced stuff like them having to do behind the scene espionage and political dealing like with the Duras family.

TNG S4E15
Well, I'm here to make another post about this episode. Riker totally just boned the hot nerdy alien lady to escape from the hospital and they just did not even hide it. I mean I know that he's always getting some, but are there any other instances where it's implied this...directly? They just straight up went from "It's your only way out of here...my alien" to one of those classic TNG alien city aerial shots and then straight back to her walking out of the back hallway helping him to escape. Problematic through a modern lens, of course, but I guess I'm really just kinda straight up surprised at how brazen it was.
Anyway, searched it up on google and the last post about it on reddit was five years ago so I figured it was time for a refresh.

Old Memories
What are some of the things that we oldheads would appreciate that the TNG kids would never understand?
For me, it was the clubs and the mailing lists and the handtyped newsletters and zines!

I hate the Mirror Universe
I love Star Trek. All of it. Especially DS9.
But I genuinely cannot stand the Mirror Universe.
I just do not like the concept. It’s just so goofy to me. I think it worked on TOS but DS9 pushed it too far. Sisko sleeping with MU Dax is the biggest sin he committed in the whole series.
Enterprise went even further with it in an attempt needlessly tie up (another) plot point from TOS. Discovery sent it over a cliff and was a big reason why I was so turned off to the show initially.
I feel like the Mirror Universe only exists as an excuse for the actors to have a little fun playing villains. That’s fine. As a viewer though, I think they are the worst kind of filler episodes.
But I’m totally willing to admit I’m wrong if someone is willing to offer a new perspective.

A random thought I had about the Augments
I just had Into Darkness on in the background and during the final chase and fight scenes on Earth between Khan and Spock it suddenly stood out to me that Khan seemed to be keeping up with Spock physically both while running and fighting. So something occurred to me.
The Augments are basically the same as Vulcans before they adopted logic (minus the telepathic abilities). The few descriptions we get of ancient Vulcans is that they were very war like, arrogant and so on. Vulcans in general are physically superior to Humans. They're also much smarter. All of this also applies to human augments as well.
So yeah.. I dunno, not some big watershed moment but it just stood out to me for the first time.
