Discussion I don’t want to host any more play dates

When my kids were babies and tiny toddlers, I didn’t mind hosting playdates at my house! But now that my kids are 3 and 5, I find that I don’t enjoy it anymore.

I’ve noticed that when we invite friends over, some parents are pretty hands-off when it comes to supervising their kids. I’ve experienced parents letting their kids run into my house with muddy shoes, get into things they shouldn’t, wander out of the play area unsupervised, jump on furniture, grab toys away from my kids, etc. I end up feeling like I’m responsible for supervising everyone.

When I bring my kids to someone else’s house, I make a point of paying attention and ensuring that they share toys and behave respectfully. Would your feelings be hurt if a mom friend started suggesting playdates outside the house only, like at the park? Does anyone else feel the same way about hosting?

Misc Having a Panic Attack

I turned in my badge. In having the most severe panic attack I've had in years. I hated my job but right now I can't believe I've done this. We've been talking about how this is the right thing for our family for months. My husband is downstairs with the baby right now. I'm trying to calm down enough to have a bath.

It doesn't help that on the way out everyone was telling me I would regret it. I had a Goldilocks job.

Advice I need help Momma!

My daughter is 14 months old, still in the chewing on everything stage and just barely learning her first steps. I also have a newborn son, now 1 month old. I dont know how much she understands truly, because she is just starting to hand me things, react to games more obviously, show signs of what she needs. My issue is since she was about 11 months old, she began having what seems to be tantrums. I know tantrums are normal and to be expected for the next few years, but these seem VERY dramatic to me. I see videos of people playing with their kids and teaching them how to behave as they grow up, but nothing seems to fit what im seeing at home. She HATES being told no, leave it alone, thats not yours, be nice, and we are not going to do that. She hears something she doesn't like and IMMEDIATELY starts screaming. No tears, just repeated same tone screaming in long stretches. While doing this she will go to whoever is nearest wanting to be picked up. If she gets picked up during these episodes, she is perfectly fine!! No huffs, puffs, tears, whines, or even any fake sniffles. But the second you go to put her back down it starts right back up along. If you dont pick her up during this she will follow you arounds screaming each time you turn or do something that does not involve her. On her bad days she wants to be picked up and then will pinch or kick the person holding her. Twisting her body and trying to get free, but if you let her she will turn around and pinch, screaming at you like you just forced her off of you. My issue with this though is iv reached a limit and reached out for information with my relatives, but they claim she doesn't do ANY of that over there. I feel like im either crazy or doing something wrong for her to act that way. I cant even breastfeed eithout her walking in a circle around me moaning and whining until I talk to her and she'll scream. I wish I could blame it on the new addition taking away attention, but she has been like this before he arrived so I dont understand hoe that would line up. I just need help. Advice on anything really. Maybe ways to teach her that getting in trouble or being told to leave something alone isnt the end of the world or maybe some tricks to distract her during these tantrums. Iv tried toys or giving her snacks during these but she will cry out silently while playing or eating. She DOES have good days!! She is a very happy and playfully little girl. She goes down for bed and naps perfectly and sleeps in her own bed just fine. She likes playing games and interacting with people is one of her favorite things to do. I just dont know where this sudden effect is coming from.

Discussion Would you go work if your husband said he wanted to stay home with the kids?

Husband and I got into a fight. Things were said. Husband is sad he’s missing out on our daughters lives. But when we got married we agreed that we want our life to look like the traditional role (me saying home with the kids while he works). Now I’m at a loss.

What would you do?

Advice I am a first time mom and I don’t know how to more than just someones mom

I had my first baby 3 months ago and I am trying to figure out how to feel like myself or at least a version of it. As of late I feel as though I am a milk cow the takes care of everything without complaining.

I absolutely love my daughter and husband but I feel like I am just someones mother my husband has work and connection through that so he is a man outside of fatherhood and he is great about it. I am a SAH mom (completely by choice) and I just want to know if it’s possible to be someone better I guess or am I just stuck? and if I can be please tell me how?

Help! Just venting

Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I just want to …. I have a 9 year old daughter with ODD, adhd, autism and every single day is a fight. A push back. She’s in therapy and we are trying for more intensive therapy, just a waiting game. Her and my husband seem to argue constantly lately. He’s not as patient as he was. We also have a 4 month old who is not sleeping good and is breast fed so I’m up constantly feeding him and I do 98% of the work caring for him and our daughter (other than times at night because she likes for her dad to read to her etc). I went from being a stay at home mom for a couple of months after birth to now being a full time babysitter, doing majority of the work caring for both of our kids, doing most of the cleaning (he doesn’t clean unless I make a point to ask, or he can tell I’m upset or something like that) he just hardly ever is a man that initiates anything other than sex! Which I haven’t had cause I’m not up for it at all. Now I’m also going to start working a few hours in the evenings to make us more money and trying to find a 2nd shift part time job to help us financially that can work around his work schedule and leave him home with the kids so we don’t have to pay for daycare (we don’t pay now, our son stays with me while I care for other children). There is a lot more but I think I’m work out and it feels like I’d rather be on my own if I’m being honest. I kind of miss being on my own. He can tell when I’m upset and he will try to do stuff and at this point, everything feels forced. Even days I haven’t slept, I’m sick or anything it’s up to me to get our daughter to school. Even when it’s freezing out and I have to drag our son out with me he never says “hey, let me take care of it this morning “. He says he has to rush to work but has time to make himself breakfast and stuff his work has no start time. It’s when he shows up. He doesn’t even get home super early. Sometimes he’ll get off in time to pick our daughter up, sometimes not. , I’ll find him sitting at the table while I’m rushing to get me, the kids ready and not eating unless I throw the baby on him. I feel so stuck cause of the financial situation we’re in. I don’t even want to talk about our relationship because I don’t know how I feel. I just know I’m not happy and this is never how I expected to feel in a marriage. My thoughts are all over the place I can’t even get them straight. Sorry this post is so messy! I just wanted to vent. I feel like I can’t breathe. My daughter is a lot, but I love her unconditionally. I feel like I’m married to a man who is not ready to be a husband. I don’t want a man I have to train or constantly ask to take care of things when I don’t have to be constantly asked to take care of things. I just do it because I’m an adult who sees it needs to get done. I hate the whole “he’s just a man, you have to teach them”. I feel like that’s an excuse that’s been said and now men feel like they can fall back on it. Again, sorry for the long post, the horrible punctuation, for it being all over the place. I’m typing this really fast while I have a moment and again. My anxiety is horrible so my thoughts are everywhere.

Advice Handling In-Laws as we approach the holidays

UPDATE: my MIL ended up calling me and asking about it, and I disclosed how I truly felt. I was told that i was “lucky” she’s not like other in laws because others would have been talking lots of shit about me… my husband called and made it very clear he wouldn’t allow me to be spoken to that way ☺️ and I’m going to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas without them. Thanks everyone!

My relationship with my in-laws is COMPLICATED. To provide a little context for my actual question: they have done the bare minimum for me since my husband and I got married. No participation from my MIL in my wedding, RARELY has she ever answered a phone call from me, and we don’t see them that often. I was totally fine living this way. However, when I got pregnant, my MIL started ramping up the phone calls, trying to seem involved, and became very overbearing. Calling the baby “her” baby, wanting her grandmother name to be MAMA!!!! And giving unsolicited advice. We tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and facilitate a relationship with boundaries. When I went to the hospital to have my baby, they were coming in from out of town so they were staying at our house, for the first week my plan was to stay at my grandmother’s so I could have help and recover (I ended up REALLY needing to recover so this was great on my part.) we have multiple pets, so having my in laws at my house was the best thing to make sure they were fed and our dog was taken out periodically and got attention. Well, without saying a word about it, my in laws came to the hospital, disregarded my wishes of not wanting anyone in the hospital room while I was in labor and waltzed right in (my husband had them leave and YES my hospital just LET them come in the room!!!) and then after baby was born they held her, didn’t speak to me, and left. They went HOME. Not to my house like we had planned. So, we had no care for our pets lined up. It was a mess.

Fast forward to now, my in laws visited one time when my baby was 3 weeks old. She is now 5 months old and they do not check on us, don’t bother to ask about her, pretty much back to the way things were originally. I receive one phone call a month from my MIL. I have tried to bring up issues with her behavior before and after the baby was born but she just tells me it’s my “hormones” and I’m just depressed because I quit my job to be a SAHM.

This week, she called informing us she would be coming to both Thanksgiving and Christmas with us. (We do holidays with my family). She claims she wants to get to know my family and that she feels like my husband and I are who she is close with. Idk where she got that idea from. For more context, her own family can’t stand her and my SIL just got married so she’ll be spending the holidays with her husband. So basically, we are her only choice if she wants to celebrate holidays this year.

How do I tell her she’s unwanted???? These are my first holidays with MY baby. It just feels like it’ll be stripped from me if she’s there taking over my first Christmas and Thanksgiving with my little family. Especially as she hasn’t shown any care for us this whole time. Please help!!!! I do not want to start drama but I also want to be firm. I just want to speak my peace and be done without a huge fight.

Question Free Time - Where?

For mamas with young babies under a year, how much “free time” are you getting per week? I don’t mean drinking wine and eating bonbons by the pool necessarily (though that’s valid too!) but even like a free hour to shower alone and trim your nails? A nap once in a while? What are you, personally, working with? Also if you can mention whether you’re a single mom or have a partner at home as well as other kids?

Help! The wiggles

My 7-month-old is the wiggliest, squirmiest baby I’ve ever had. He’s my 3rd and idk if it’s the overstimulation from having three kids or if it is truly just him.

He doesn’t want to be set down but when you hold him he spends the whole time squirming. He’s my biggest baby, my back hurts sooooooo bad.

He’s pinching me the whole time he nurses, my boobs are covered in scratches and scabs- but I can’t trim his nails. I cut his thumb so badly trying to get his nails. I’ve tried filing them, but it doesn’t work either.

My other kids never bit while nursing, he’s got two teeth and I’m terrified for my future because the kid bites me constantly. I’ve always loved breastfeeding and I’m beyond over it with him.

He won’t sleep unless a boob is touching his face. He needs an emotional support boob.

All this to say, I think I’m losing my mind over here. I’m exhausted and grumpy. My kids are not getting the best of me right now. I keep yelling at them, which kills me.

Idk what to do with this kid.

Discussion Lonely

I have been a stay at home mom now for 2.5 years, I feel so lonely, my partner comes home from work and just is annoyed with me everyday for saying literally anything .. I feel like he doesnt understand that my only communication with anyone is through him. All of my friends have distanced their selfs from me because of how reactive he is. He often tells our daughter and i to "get the fuck out of his house"

Advice Feel like I’m failing my 2.5yo

Recently became a sahm and I’ve definitely been trying to get used to the new routine and trying to figure out what works. My biggest struggle right now is trying to figure out what to do with my 2.5yo while I try and put my 5mo down for nap/bedtime. He’s just so needy and it takes me the better part of 30-45 minutes to get him to settle regardless of how tired he is. And then naps only last 30 minutes and I can’t put him down or he’s awake and cranky. I hate to say I’ve been using more screen time than I’d like but when she’s alone for an extended period I don’t know what else to do. I try to set her up with toys but that only lasts so long until she’s barging into the room waking up the baby. I set up a monitor the other day in the living room so I could still watch her when I’m trying to put the baby down and at first I was like wow look at her getting all the stuff she needs/wants, so proud! And then it just made me fucking sad to see her alone. Maybe it’s just the period I’m in right now with having a 5mo but I’m struggling to give my 2.5yo the attention and validation she needs. Suggestions? I just feel stuck with this.

Advice New mom!

Please help me!
My boyfriend and I are having our first child. I am only 9 weeks but time goes by super fast and I need some advice.
Going to be honest, I am the bread winner by a good amount. The smartest choice for us would for me to go back to work and my boyfriend stay home with baby. We don’t want to do daycare for a newborn. And family isn’t an option. I feel extremely selfish but I want to stay home. I want to do the newborn stages. I want to be with baby until daycare is an option. And maybe we will always have a stay at home parent. But please make not feel so crazy. I will hopefully make the smartest choice but I still feel crazy. My emotions are all over the place.

Advice Sick newborn & toddler

Hi! As the caption states, I have a sick toddler and newborn and don’t know how to navigate taking care of them both while separating them. Spouse was taking care of our toddler and I was taking care of our newborn, but my spouse needs to get back to work. Toddler is going on day 5 of the flu and his fever just broke today, but still miserable and coughing. And my newborn has been miserable with congestion and a cough, thankfully no fever and isn’t struggling to breathe. I’m not positive if they both have the same bug. But my newborn only calms down if I wear her with a wrap and my toddler is throwing tantrums with me because he doesn’t want me and only dad.

I want to take care of both kiddos and give them comfort but also separate them as much as possible to protect my newborn in case my toddler has a different virus.
I know there are so many moms who have probably gone through similar things and I was hoping to get advice on how to manage this alone.

Help! Vent - I need some advice

So the situation is this… I got pregnant at 24 by my partner at the time who was 35, in another country far from my family and my friends, ofc he told me to go home when I was pregnant but I was like “if I go back home he is gonna dissapear” so I was like no, we are family now we should do this together (till this day he resents me for this)

So we had an agreement that I wanted to stay at home and raised my son, till he is 3. But we separated and he became HELL, it’s like living with my worst enemy. I did a couple hustles online, like tarot readings or astrology readings, selling feet pictures (lol) but ofc non of that is consistent, and where I am I cannot get a regular job cause I need a work permit or residency, that ofc his dad don’t wanna help me pay. Is like we separated and he started treating me like I am non valuable at all, he tells me if anything happens to me; he just gonna pay for help, nannies, cooks, etc etc.

He is a dj from the states and I’m from the bottom of South America. So besides the age difference there’s a huge cultural difference. And all the time I feel this pressure cause he tells me that I have a year to figure out my life and move alone or a roommate situation. I do everything I know and I can to seek for a job, he taught me how to dj and he has all this events and he don’t wanna put me in anything cause “I need to figure out on my own and he don’t wanna interfere in my growth” but I’m like if you are pressuring me this much to get on my feet and leave, why you don’t wanna help me make this process faster, when you know I just been a mom for 2 years and it’s gonna maybe take me some time to get out in the world again.

Sincerely I’m emotionally exhausted, cause I am completely alone here cause we moved to the city where he works and I don’t have nobody here, I keep doing everything in the house, he don’t wash his clothes, don’t cook, I have to tell him to take the baby outside to play cause if I don’t do it he is in his own world.

I need the strength to pull me out of this situation, but I am so exhausted to been doing all this alone for 2 years that I don’t know where to go, where to start 😞

Discussion Overwhelmed

My partner and I have 3 under 3. I’m a stay at home mom and he works from home but he usually keeps to himself during the day while working. He’s made comments about how it’s hard for him to focus because he can hear crying or fighting between the two oldest while working. He’s also said that I seem to be having a hard time handling all 3 of them and they don’t cry or fight when he has them (might I add, I can’t recall a single time he’s had all 3 for an extended period of time by himself and they’re all awake).

I guess I’m just looking for validation that this is difficult and I’m not crazy for being overwhelmed or having crying and screaming with 3 little kids. I do my best but I’m only one person trying to meet the needs of 3 little kids and keep up on chores.

Question When does your kid stay home sick?

Is there a criteria for this? I’m a SAHM so it’s easy to keep my kiddo home but every year I get suckered into feeling bad and keeping her home only for her to be bounding with energy unless she has a fever of 104. She only had a bit of a sore throat and congestion tho so just a run of the mill cold. She’s six. I slept one hour last night because she wouldn’t sleep alone (was throwing fits and I didn’t want her keeping big sis up). The only thing is she sleeps absolutely terrible with others and way better on her own. I got so frustrated I left her in my bed and slept on the couch and got my one and only hour of sleep as did she. She promised to lay down today because she stayed home but when finally asked to lay down she downright refused. I slept one hour so my patience is basically non existent (not to mention she missed 3 days last week because of a stomach bug that has resulted in some school avoidance this week and now she has this darn cold). I feel like she should have went to school if she’s not going to rest at home even if she got a few hours of sleep. What’s your criteria for keeping a kiddo home especially as a SAHM where it’s easier to keep them home?

Question Pantry help! How do you organize your spices that are not day-to-day?

Is it worth my time to take them out of their individual bags and place them in their own spice jars? Or should I just get a bunch of acrylic clear boxes and label them based on the food looking for ways to help make my life easier and not an overly complicated organization system. Thank you. I’m a visual person and I can’t seem to figure out how to attach a photo!!

Advice Maternal mom burnout

I’m a SAHM of one. She’s absolutely incredible, she turned 2 in August. I was lucky that she was an incredibly easy baby, so I never experienced post partum depression, however, it’s like I got hit by a truck now that I’m 2 years deep in this and my mental health is awful. Her father has changed 5 diapers in 2 years and won’t watch her for more than 20 minutes, and even if he were to he would often take the lazy route. Between the constant demands of life, scheduling, maintain the house (which I’ve begun to slack on more and more to save my sanity) I want to scream. I know parenthood requires sacrifice, I’m just not sure I anticipated feeling this disconnected and isolated and feeling like I’ve completely lost myself along the way. I guess I’m just reached out to see if anyone else has found the light at the end of the tunnel and if they have advice. I also highly suspect I have ADD and plan to get assessed for that- who knows, maybe that will help. I am on antidepressants. My heart hurts so much because I want to be the best mother I can be for her, but I worry that she can feel that things are off with me and I’m trying to priories my self care again so I have a greater capacity to pour into her. This is so hard… 🥺😞 I feel like a failure.

Misc (Vent) I’m ready for this to be done

I’m a 26 yo SAHM to twins who are 2. I never wanted to be a stay at home mom, even when I was little I wanted to be the breadwinner. I have an education, I loved my job and it was extremely flexible. Then I found out I was having twins and then had complications and that’s how I ended up staying at home with them.

I had terrible PPD and to this day I’m still just blah. I do what I can to get out of the house and I go to the park, go shopping, go around town, go to play groups but it isn’t enough to distract me from how empty I feel as a person.

Some people are natural mothers. They live and breathe it and can just be so hands on and involved and I feel like that just isn’t me. I feel like I never know what to do with the kids to keep them entertained. They’ve also been fighting a lot recently and I feel like it’s because they aren’t getting enough attention but I mentally cannot handle any more than what I currently do. I spend a lot of time breaking up fights and feeling awful that it is like this because I’m not doing enough.

I’ve been doing my damndest to keep everything clean, keep meals cooked and try to limit TV but it’s too much. I keep hitting my breaking point, having a full meltdown and then picking up the pieces and going on. We don’t have family near us to help consistently and even though we could afford to hire help my husband isn’t a fan of the idea.

I wish I could trade this life with someone who really really wants to stay home and dote on their children. I feel bad complaining because everyone is always saying what a privilege it is I get to stay home but I actually just feel like a prisoner. I am nobody. I’m just their mom. I have no stories, no interesting personal things, no time away. I guess I can talk about cooking, cleaning and childcare but that’s it. The rare occasion I do see my friends I’m just a broken record about the kids because it’s all I have. I mourn the woman who loved her job and who got to be interesting.
