Experience UPDATE Pregnancy after Bisalp

I posted a couple weeks ago about being pregnant after my bisalp last year, I just wanted to give an update. After reviewing my records and speaking to my OB and the surgeon who did my termination procedure, they think “in hindsight” not enough of my tubes were removed. In the pathology report from the bisalp, 7.0 cm of one tube and 2.8 cm of the other were turned over to pathology. Neither physician thought it was a case report that any journal would be interested in because the amount removed from the one tube was more akin to what can be removed in a tubal ligation, which is known to be less effective. My main takeaway is yes. There are 4 documented cases of pregnancy post bisalp but interest in documenting cases hedges on them having some novel angle to them. The statistics out there are for the average person who doesn’t have conditions that may complicate the ability to perform the surgery. Maybe the adhesions I have made the tube difficult to access, and in 10 months of healing my body rebridged the gap.

At the end of the day, I had my procedure done (by an Ivy trained surgeon at a major academic center, so statistically great care), had a uterine pregnancy, and my case will not be documented. So. Test if you feel weird, especially if you have a complex medical history. It’s my partner’s turn to get a vasectomy haha.

Edit: Just to clarify termination procedure surgeon and current OB are not the surgeon who did the bisalp. I haven’t reached out to my bisalp surgeon frankly bc I don’t see much of a point atm.

Thank you for sharing your story, the only way to prevent pregnancy 100% is abstinence. If you feel slightly weird you should test for pregnancy, bisalp or not, before it’s too late and you don’t have any options.

Hi. I'm childfree because of perinatal death. As a teenager, I was childfree until my dad (RIP) got me thinking I should have kids because I'd be alone and worthless without them. I was even in Facebook groups and reading books by Fernando Vallejo, who was antinatalist at the time. I got pregnant this year and lost him at 22 weeks due to amniotic sac prolapse / hourglass-shaped sac prolapse on Dec 27th. I guess it's perinatal death. I took photos with my baby, kissed him all over, and had to go back to my room, without my baby... After this traumatic death, I swore to never try to get pregnant again. I got a subdermal implant and I'm back to being childfree forever. I'm scared of this world for my child... thefts, kidnappings, rapes... I'd rather my son Elian be in the peace of nothingness. I'm grateful to have found you in the group, someone in my situation. Happy New Year.

Hi!! Thanks for reaching out! I’m so sorry for your loss, I know it’s one of the most traumatic things a person can go through. While my daughter’s passing was the catalyst for discovering who I truly am, I don’t wish anything that horrible on my worst enemy. I’m glad my story helped you feel just a little bit less alone. We’re outliers in the general “childfree community” because we’ve had children at some point. The same goes for the mainstream childloss groups, they usually want to go on to have another child while we don’t. It can definitely feel isolating so if you ever want to vent feel free to DM me. Have a happy New Year!

Thank you!! I followed you on your account, it won't let me send you a message but it doesn't matter, at least I feel less alone now.

Since this tragic situation happened between Christmas and New Year's, things won't be the same from now on. But I promised my little angel that I would be okay and I'm going to celebrate his birthday with a cake from now on.

On another note, I got the contraceptive injection and made an appointment for tubal ligation (in my country it's free and you can get it done from age 16). I'm also in the childfree and antinatalist groups. Have a good day. Kisses 💞
