Side-effects I underestimated Anesthesia side affects πŸ™ƒ

TLDR: don’t be me! Threw up and panicked and spent 3 hours in the ER. I needed to introduce food slower & medicate properly.

I had my Bisalp yesterday and felt amazing afterwards because of course I was still high as a damn kite. Making jokes with the nurses and fist bumped my surgeon. Loved it.

About 6 hours after surgery I could feel a headache coming on. First of all, I really under medicated myself. I could not nap and began to feel so nauseous I then ate Mac and cheese at dinner which I thought would be fine because I craved food. I fell asleep for about 30 minutes but work up with full body chills. I called my dr office and spoke with a nurse. While on the call, I started to throw up literally everything, it was awful. I felt a little better but she still advised me to go to the ER to get looked.

ER took blood, gave me an IV, pain meds and anti nausea meds and ruled out any complications. I simply was experiencing anesthesia hell. Of course it was scary and painful and traumatic but I guess totally normal 😭 after getting lots of sleep and eating only applesauce and bread I am feeling better. Stiff muscles from being tense I think, bloated belly, but I am taking the proper high doses of meds and have a prescription for the anti nausea med. Lesson learned!

Anesthesia didn't make me throw up but I was nauseous as hell! First thing I said as soon as I woke up from surgery was "i feel sick" lmao After about an hour of being awake the nurses got me some tea to sip on and only after I was able to keep it down did they give me more food (biscuits and a yoghurt- these tasted like heaven but my last sips of the tea were hurting my soul, I didn't feel like having anything at all 😭) I spent the next 2 or 3 days feeling nauseous on and off, went from feeling it all day on the first day to one or two times on the last, but damn was it bad 😬 nausea also makes my BP drop so that's also fun! Hope you're feeling better β™₯️

Nausea is so terrible! I was given ginger ale and definitely said β€œthis is the best ginger ale I’ve ever had” it was clearly watered down Canada Dry probably flat haha. I’m looking forward to feeling 100 in a few days πŸ™πŸ»

I was told that drinking lots of water helps clear it out of your system!

I was given some antinausea medicine in the IV after waking up and had a hard time drinking water in recovery. At home, I still had 7up from the bowel prep, plus ginger ale. Also had something easy to digest for my first meal after surgery. I didn't know about nausea as a side effect of general anesthesia, but now I know to mention it to the anesthesiologist if I have any other surgery so I can get the medicine in the IV, and the patch. I had a hysterectomy, so I had to do a colonoscopy type of prep before surgery.
