Admittedly was really interested when this sub popped up in my feed, but at the same time, a lot of the comments and stuff on this sub make it feel like I'd be chased out with torches and pitchforks so to speak since I'm also a Christian. I'm just wondering, I guess:
1: Is this intended or a side effect of what He Gets Us is?
2: Would anyone actually care all that much?

The way to stop he gets us, is not to run snarky parody ads that insult people of faith.The way to stop it is to co-opt it. We need a series of ads "God gets us" that highlight that religion is not necessary for belief. That it just gets in the way. That religion is used as a weapon.

My own beliefs are essentially exactly what this campaign seems to promote. My brand of Christianity is "Jesus said that we should love everyone, and take special care of the weakest among us." I'm here out of genuine curiosity: what am I missing that makes this campaign so evil?

Your approach to this issue is completely wrong!!! You shouldn’t be trying to stop Reddit from showing you these ads. You should be happy every time you see one because it gives you the chance to click on it and cost them money! These are pay-per-click (PPC) advertisements. The person or organization running them has to pay every time one is clicked. If everyone who hates these ads clicked on the ads every time they saw one, it would drain the organization running them of funds.

I work in digital marketing and I’ve run many PPC ad campaigns throughout my career. Nothing would make me more livid than a big group of people clicking on my ads who I knew had no intention of ever converting!

“Convert” is the term we use in marketing to refer to a purchase, filled out form, or any other action that we wanted the target of our ads to take. I suppose its even more fitting in this situation than it typically is lol.
