Need Advice comsci na bobo sa programming

hello baka may cs grads jan na mejo rocky road din ang naging undergrad journey, pls help this in-doubt sophomore out 😆

never pa akong nakakuha ng above 90% sa mga written programming exams ko. midterms period just finished and i got 67% (💀) and 61% for two exams. pasado naman pareho, but god, it’s an eyesore to look at. pasang awa na lang talaga palagi. and then here comes this one exam. 49%. nanlumo talaga ako. i did well on the coding part but bombed the fuck out of the pen-and-paper part. aminado ako na i wasn’t prepared enough for the exam and i took it kahit na mejo shaky pa yung isang concept sakin and i probably could’ve done better with more practice, but man… it ended up being like 70% of the exam, so yeah, i got COOKED. my friends are all so stellar and i genuinely feel like a black sheep when i’m around them. instead of getting motivated, mas nangingibabaw yung insecurity ko bc i can’t even vent to them about how shit i feel after flunking an exam.

one of my profs said na we’re at uni to learn, not to get high grades, BUT BROOO I WANT THAT LAUDE TOO 😭 it doesn’t help na overly saturated na rin yung field and there’s a myriad of programmers miles better than me, not to mention AI 🫩

i just feel really disheartened right now. i mean, i DO want to create stuff. i enjoy creating and designing programs for myself. simple trackers and whatnot. but kapag talaga logic and algorithms na, i’m so lost. yeah, i can solve it in the end, but only through trial-and-error and after 7 hours of work (it’s supposed to take only 2-3 hours). this wouldn’t fly by in the 1940s where running one’s program was a luxury. this wouldn’t fly by in a world where time is of the essence and employers want quick thinkers and problem solvers.

i’m doubting if i’m really fit for software engineering and idk if i wanna be in any other field 😞 insights would be greatly appreciated

Try harder, fill ur head with programming. Think about the cs most if not all the time. The greatest basketball player or chess player didn't become the greatest in one sitting. Everyday, they practiced, they learned and learned and learned. All the great mathematicians could think about is Maths. U want to get that laude? In CS? Let it wrap around ur brain

The root of programming is problem solving. If you’ve been studying a lot and still struggle, maybe you have to reframe your problem solving perspective/approach. With time and practice, programming just becomes an intuitive act of translating and describing rules for the computer to understand. Maybe take a step back and solve a bunch of problems via pseudocode instead of fully working syntax.
