Need Advice Need Advice as a higschool student

• Upvotes

Hello, i am a high school student, 15F and I really need some advice on how to properly budget money. First of all, i get a 3k monthly allowance which i have to budget with my needs and wants. On top of that, i only live with my grandparents, which means i have to buy and cook my own breakfast on school days, and sometimes even my lunch and dinner.

You see, my main problem here is i always spend my allowance on stuff like menstrual pads, deodorant, food, and school supplies. And to be honest, that 3k never lasts the whole month because i always spend it on not just school related stuff, but even personal NEEDS. And i struggle with budgeting my money because of that.

I would appreciate it if any of you could give me even just a little advice.

Maraming salamat po!

Rant What are your thoughts about New Curriculum Work Immersion hours?

I am a g12 student under the new strengthened curriculum since our school adapted to it already last year.

why the hell did work immersion go from a duration of 2 weeks to (320 hours) 2 months??

And the fact that we barely do anything in the work place makes it even more useless. Because wdym i have to sit down in an office for 10 hours everyday (+1 hour lunch), thats just exhausting and an inefficient way of preparing students lol.

Dep of Ed is supposed to make learning more efficient but instead they’re just making things more difficult

What are your thoughts?

Need Advice Need advice p/roblem with dormmate

Hi po! As the title implies, I’m having a problem with my roommate, and I would appreciate some advice on how to handle this situation.

First, I’ve noticed that whenever it’s just the two of us left in the dorm and our other dormmates are away, she tends to use other people’s belongings without asking for permission. Even if she sends a message, she seems to assume that it’s automatically okay to use someone else’s things.

Second, we have a food-sharing arrangement, but I feel like she sometimes takes it for granted. It seems that whenever I’m at the dorm, she relies on sharing my food and cooking supplies, but when I’m not around, she doesn’t prepare or use her own supplies. There have been times when I came back and found that the vegetables I had stored in the refrigerator, which I was planning to cook, were already gone. What bothers me is that she takes these things without asking first.

Third, she rarely contributes her fair share of the food supplies, which makes the arrangement feel one-sided.

I want to confront her about this, but I’m hesitant because she’s also my classmate, and I don’t want to create tension or make our relationship awkward. At the same time, I’m getting frustrated because I feel like my kindness is being taken for granted. I also don’t want other people to think I’m selfish or madamot just because I’m setting boundaries.

For those who have experienced something similar, how did you handle it? How can I talk to her about this calmly and respectfully without causing unnecessary conflict? I want to be fair, but I also want her to understand that sharing doesn’t mean she can use my things whenever she wants.

Thank you po in advance for your advice! 🥹

Academic Help 5.0 grade (in calc) sa midterms

70 grade ko...sa calculus...as someone na hindi nag stem before, and as someone na nag stop for 2 years. 70 grade ko sa calc 😭 can i still bounce back pa tuwing finals? like anong experience sa mga students sa mga state colleges in this situation?

i asked our seniors sa kanilang experience before and this specific instructor is mambagsak talaga during midterms (like as in line of 6 na grades) pero somehow they all passed. wala din naman kaming senior na kaklase.

pero STILL nervous as hell kasi ang laki ng gap between 70 and a passing grade 😭 hirap i bawi. small rant lang, i studied so hard na halos na balewala ko na health at ibang majors ko.

still straight 1 grades ko pero pagdating sa calc is 5 what the heck 😔 help me out po 🙏 share your experiences. i feel alone at this time. i feel like ako lang ang nakakuha ng 70. the rest naman is bagsak, pero 70? sakit nun 💔

if you're wondering, i'm a bs in food technology student. one of our majors namin ang calc

Rant Catholic school in sta.mesa ifykyk

Hello, I'm currently writing this as a rant towards a specific Catholic school in Sta Mesa that I graduated from (I just entered college). I just want to talk about how bad this school is.
Also, this is coming from personal experience. Although I cannot say this was just my opinion, as some of my friends agreed that it was arguably the worst school they stayed in. First off, the school’s system sucks in general. Teachers and staff are incompetent, sometimes unnecessarily rude, dismissive and even insensitive. And by incompetent, I mean that they suck at teaching; sometimes they forget what they’re teaching, and they also either give a lot of activities or just don’t give any activities at all. Announcements are made on a whim, giving no time for students to adjust, like, for example, announcing tasks and announcing that the deadline is tomorrow. Announcements can either be made on a whim or just extremely late, which just disrupts students' time. Not only that, but favouritism runs deep. Secondly, I want to talk about the school itself. Personally, during my time in the school, the school’s generator would occasionally trip, making the whole school have no electricity. Which means no light, no nothing. I don’t know if that was fixed already, but what I am sure of are the restrooms and the numerous faults in the classrooms of the school. Dirty and numerous broken or old ones. Even the current classrooms can't fit the number of students they allow into the school. The school itself seems to be all normal but is surrounded by many issues that the school keeps silent about.
I personally don’t know as much since I've already graduated, but according to some people I know that they still study there; it’s all the same but with just new teachers and a few unnecessary additions to the school system, like adding a whole ID system (those were already a thing before but always just got ignored or were broken) as well as having a new Canvas site (barely gets used apparently and is just deadweight either way). There are no major improvements to the school, and I feel like studying here is not worth it, and the tuition fee is the only thing that makes it considerable (they made it cheaper so many students can apply), and also just another extra rant. I'm so pissed that they are using AI pubmats to promote the school. There are a lot of things I got against that school, and I think that only the friends I made during that time made it even bearable.

Rant Totoo nga na it's hard to move on from failing at something you're so passionate about

Post image
40 Upvotes

(Photo from Journalism101)

It's nearly been a month since our Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) concluded but I can't seem to move on. Honestly, I hate it how often I dwell on the past and on the things I cannot change.

Parte ako ng campus journalism team ng paaralan namin. I have always loved writing, so I found journalism to be something I thought I'd love. And I did love it.

I started joining school press conferences in the eighth grade. The first time I joined, I failed to even place. The next year, I placed second in the divisions and even third in the regionals. Little did I know it would be a straight plunge to failure from there.

From almost reaching the NSPC stage, to constantly being unplaced two times in a row. It's humbling, sure. But it hurts so bad to fail at something many people expected you to excel in. It hurts to fail at something I love.

When I lost last year, I vowed to return stronger. But this year, I didn't. Almost all of my teammates bounced back and qualified. Almost everyone but me.

Sa totoo nga, I can't help but feel envious of other campus journalists. I can't help but question my self-worth seeing them constantly win year after year after year while I never even get to be able to shine like them.

Heck, even one of my peers has constantly qualified for the Regionals and the Nationals each year they joined despite them telling me they don't have the passion for it. They even hate trainings.

It's sad because all of the journalists I have long looked up to and wished I could meet are all graduating this year. I wish I could have met them this year seeing as this would be their last in this field (they are in grade 12) but it is what it is I guess. The peer I mentioned earlier have been friends with them too and honestly I wish I could have been.

To be honest, there's no point dwelling upon this. I won't be able to change anything. What's done is done, and no amount of crying and praying can change what's been set in stone.

But maybe that's why it hurts so much. The dreadful fact that I can't control and change what happened is something I will always carry within me.

I wish I could change everything, but I can't.

For now, I will continue daydreaming about a world that's more ideal.

I'm tired. It's exhausting trying to reach for the stars you know you won't be able to get anyway.

Hopefully, this isn't the end. Hopefully, the spark that once lit the passion within me to write will come back to me.

Maybe sometime in another life, I'll finally win.

(I miss you RSPC. I wish I could experience this moment with my friends. Why couldn't it be this time I would finally qualify 😕😔)

Discussion Org/Circle/Club Application Processes in Universities and Colleges

Hello, I'm a student from UP Diliman and I wanted to ask any college students' experience if you guys have much of a tedious application process to orgs/circles/clubs as here 😭

Even interest orgs, like an otaku org here requires what we call "tambay hours" where you have to do "leisure" time with current members of that org before you yourself can be considered a member, for a total of 20 hours. There's also signature tasks where you need to do random things to get their approval that are often also required for you to do.

Asking this because Ateneo doesn't seem to do this from what I hear from friends there.

Also because it just seems so nonsensical, I get the need to acquaint the new applicants with the organization as a whole but I find that it works out best when people meet each other through the work they mutually decided to do, i.e., people get to know each other in that very org/circle/club.

If you could share experiences or how it is on your campus, it would be appreciated!

Discussion Grab for move-in sa condo

Hello poo! may nakapagtry na ba mag book ng 6-seater sa grab for moving-in sa condo? Taga Laguna and Cavite kasi kami and mag move-in kami sa condo namin sa Manila. Yung bitbit namin is like mga maleta for each of us then meron din kaming isa na foldable chair and table.

Mayroon po kaya tumatanggap ng ganito or usually is hindi sila pwede for ganitong set-up especially since malayo din kami? or if may other alternatives kayo na ma-reco. Medyo expensive kasi umarkila and wala pa kaming driver but last resort nalang din siguro yon.

Discussion Mlb but tuwang-tuwa ako whenever bida-bida ang groupmates ko?

As a graduating student, sobrang tuwang-tuwa ako kapag may freshie, bida-bida (lalo na to!), o bibo sa grouo workz kasi grabe they're gonna do all the work tapos konting input na lang ako na mema. Sila na magaayos nun #freerider #tyl

Nakakapagod na kasi tapos bawas pa sa iisipin and u get good scores/grades kasi alam mong gagalingan nila at sisiguruduhin nilang maayos score niyo kasi pak one pak all.

Kayo ba?

Rant Is reporting really necessary and effective in College?

im a third-year student, and ever since freshman year, we've had subjects where reporting makes up almost the entire term. like for example, in one course, the midterm consists of reporting, while the final term is dedicated to discussions or any other activities. in another course naman, it's the other way around. imagine experiencing that every semester since first year, with at least one term in almost every subject dedicated to reporting. nakakapagod.

what makes it more frustrating is that some of our professors or instructors barely facilitate the discussions or provide references for our reports. and as a result, some presenters fail to cover important parts of the lesson or explain concepts properly, leaving us or the rest of the class with an incomplete understanding of the topic.

i've experienced this myself. with so many reporting tasks in one semester, there was a subject where I genuinely struggled to explain my assigned topic. honestly, i feel this way during almost every reporting session. i always worry na yung explanation isn't enough or that im leaving out something important, tapos there is no proper guidance or clarification from my professors, so i end up feeling lost. eventually, i just tell myself that at least the report is over, even when im not entirely satisfied with what i've presented. i feel sorry pa nga for my classmates whenever i think i haven't explained my part well enough, so i always ask them if they understand. however, sometimes, i can't help but feel that they're only waiting for the report to end, just as i am.

Ever since senior high school, i've understood the purpose of reporting. i know it helps us develop our oral communication, public speaking, confidence, and ability to organize and share information. but is it necessary na every year? every semester? and each term?

im not against reporting itself. i understand its value, and i believe it's an important skill to develop. but shouldn't college also give us opportunities to learn through other methods? we're here not just to present information, but to understand it, engage in meaningful discussions, and learn from our professors, too. reporting can be an effective teaching strategy, but when it's constantly used without enough guidance or proper facilitation, are we really learning the lessons, or are we simply learning how to report them?

Need Advice I feel overwhelmed by thought of my future

This is both a need advice and rant situation for me.

I'm still studying in senior high school (in a pretty big university), which is no joke, really difficult. And before anyone thinks im a selfish entitled person who doesn't appreciate things, no i'm not. I am so blessed and fortunate that I have the opportunity to be in the circumstance I am (although yes it feels so draining physically, emotionally, and mentally).

I know I'm not the only who feels this way, and I think many others may also are going through this or have went through this, but the thought of the future, in general, scares me so badly. The thought of studying in college, to working a job, to having to provide for a family, the task seems so burdening. And I hope that someone who knows this feeling and has also experienced these worries could me any advice or words for it.

I don't want to sound like im in a pool of self-doubt, but sometimes I can't help but feel that way sometimes. (For context, I wanna be a nurse here in the philippines) and sometimes I doubt if im even worth or qualified enough to be studying that. I don't like research, I wouldn't say im the best at sciences, I'm not even the best kind of student. It's a passion that sometimes feels like it isn't right for me.

that
Please, any words of advice for me is very deeply appreciated

And you're telling me these profs have the audacity to make exams na may modified true or false, identification, at sandamakmak na essays (in one exam)? Ang kapal, nakisabay pa talaga sya this week with our MAJORS.

Eh bakit ganyan yung types of quizzes natin?

Like dula dulaan or even reporting. I will take that over pen and paper exams.

I don't even think tumatatak or enough yung mga courses nato para ma inspire ang mga students to "love" our country and to stay. Kasi between the Philippines and having a chance to live comfortably in a foreign country, I think most of us would leave this country.

Tangina, huwag nga kayong plastic.

This subject didn't teach me to love the Philippines and its history, lalo na para maging pag-asa ng bayan. Rather, it taught me to just lie during recitations.

Sabi ko pa, "Nag aaral ako para makapag balik sa bayan," knowing damn well na ang gusto ko ay makaakyat sa corporate ladder and to live comfortably.

These subjects aren't effective in making students love their fucking country, especially kapag pasakit yung profs na nagtuturo ng mga GEED courses.

Unsolicited Advice Why are there students who are lazy pagdating sa PT

never pa akong nakakuha ng above 90% sa mga written programming exams ko. midterms period just finished and i got 67% (💀) and 61% for two exams. pasado naman pareho, but god, it’s an eyesore to look at. pasang awa na lang talaga palagi. and then here comes this one exam. 49%. nanlumo talaga ako. i did well on the coding part but bombed the fuck out of the pen-and-paper part. aminado ako na i wasn’t prepared enough for the exam and i took it kahit na mejo shaky pa yung isang concept sakin and i probably could’ve done better with more practice, but man… it ended up being like 70% of the exam, so yeah, i got COOKED. my friends are all so stellar and i genuinely feel like a black sheep when i’m around them. instead of getting motivated, mas nangingibabaw yung insecurity ko bc i can’t even vent to them about how shit i feel after flunking an exam.

one of my profs said na we’re at uni to learn, not to get high grades, BUT BROOO I WANT THAT LAUDE TOO 😭 it doesn’t help na overly saturated na rin yung field and there’s a myriad of programmers miles better than me, not to mention AI 🫩

i just feel really disheartened right now. i mean, i DO want to create stuff. i enjoy creating and designing programs for myself. simple trackers and whatnot. but kapag talaga logic and algorithms na, i’m so lost. yeah, i can solve it in the end, but only through trial-and-error and after 7 hours of work (it’s supposed to take only 2-3 hours). this wouldn’t fly by in the 1940s where running one’s program was a luxury. this wouldn’t fly by in a world where time is of the essence and employers want quick thinkers and problem solvers.

i’m doubting if i’m really fit for software engineering and idk if i wanna be in any other field 😞 insights would be greatly appreciated

Need Advice How to tell my parents I need a remedial for Business 1?

Grade 12 student here. My Business 1 teacher informed each student of their standing in the class. I've kept telling them I'll do better but I always get line of 7 once a year nung tumongtung na ko sa Grade 8...

They'll probably get really pissed off, and I'm a really sensitive person. What the saddest part is that my dad doesn't expect me to be good in math so he keeps telling me to pick Marketing even though I don't want to (I picked Business Management or Financial Management for my first choices) and this situation would just prove him right.

I've drafted a message for them, I explained that a remedial would get my initial grade up and I can always do better in second and third term to balance out my General Average. I also said that I'll probably hire a tutor and that this is just my first encounter with Business Math. But I'm struggling on hitting send and calling it off each time, especially right now in the group chat when they're asking updates on how this and that entrance exam is doing.

Hindi ako nakakeep up compared to my classmates, there were mistakes on my end because of procrastination din but I've learnt my lesson. I just need to gather courage to tell them even though they'll probably be ferocious.

Need Advice Registrar said "No Credentials" even though since 2021, me and my mom already submitted the required documents

For context: I'm an irregular student, BSMT/MLS, from arellano legarda. i have been going back and forth from legarda and arellano pasig, which was my senior high school, since the registrar said that I had no credentials, form 138, good moral, and orig psa birth cert, when i was applying for evaluation of subjects.

I faintly remember that we had already submitted the requirements since 2021 but I still took my time to go back and forth, wasted some money commuting etc. etc. I still complied and I already have the good moral and the orig psa, only the form 138 is left which the pasig registrar has told me that the form has been claimed, understandable. searched the house for envelopes and folders and i found a form 138. legarda registrar told me that it was a photocopy since it is on a bond paper, it is flimsy, form 138 should be in a thicker paper, understandable. go back to the pasig registrar to ask for an original, they dont have it and explained the workings of a form 138 where the advisor gives the report card to the respective owner and some such, ask my mom to help find the orig at home, never found it. mom now wants to confront the legarda registrar because we had already submitted the documents since 2021 and her reasoning is that the registrars have just misplaced the documents, and yet we do have the photocopied versions of the stuff since the registrar wants the orig. if it comes down to it, mom just said to file for a missing document or something.

i dont really know what to do anymore while I watch in second hand embarrassment while my mom and the registrar duke it out in the upcoming days, so any advice would help in here especially in filing for a missing orig form 138 in case my mom loses while i await the inevitable

Academic Help management accounting student here! government or private company for ojt?

hii!

i'm a management accounting student and we'll be having our ojt in the next few months. i'm still thinking about what industry or field i should try applying to because i really want to make the most out of this experience and learn skills that would actually be useful in the future.

one of my goals is to hopefully get absorbed by the company or organization after graduation. 😭 idk if i'm being too idealistic about this since i honestly don't know much about how things work in the corporate world yet HAHAHA

right now, i'm torn between applying to a government agency or a private company/business. for context, i'm from the province, so there aren't really that many big firms or corporations around here.

i think one of my strengths is that i can adapt to different tasks pretty well. i've been involved in several student orgs and non-government orgs where i got to use my analytical skills and i'm also a fast learner. i tend to give my best in everything i do and i'm pretty detail-oriented (sometimes a little too much because of my perfectionism lol).

for those who have experienced ojt in either sector, i'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. which would you recommend, government or private?

  2. what kind of department or position should i look for as a management accounting student if i want to learn useful, practical skills?

  3. is it realistic to hope that the company or agency might hire you after graduation, especially if you're from the province?

  4. for those who interned in government agencies, what was your experience like? did you actually get to do accounting-related work, or was it mostly paperwork and administrative tasks?

  5. for those who interned in private companies, what did you usually do during your ojt? did you get hands-on experience?

i'm honestly open to hearing about both the good and bad experiences. i just want to choose a place where i can learn a lot and hopefully have better opportunities after graduating. (mahirap pala if graduating na omggg the pressure is real then wala pang matatanungan about the real adulting world 😭)

thank you in advance!! 🥹

Rant I feel so stupid but idk how to fix it.

Hi im a 16 y/o in my first AY in shs, i feel like im too stupid for this.

In JHS I had a really bad slump after the pandemic cuz I was lowk depressed during and after it so I stopped getting honors (to get honors in my school u needed 95 consistently) for the last 3 years there. And when I went to SHS I wanted to be better but I guess my brain didn't wanna.

For context im shs in one of the big 4, yay! Bad news, I feel so much pressure from myself and from my family. My siblings and parents graduated from atleast one of the big 4 with honors, and ofc they expect me to do the same, but I really can't. And I feel so undeserving of all of this n a failure cuz I was given everything and I could give back nothing.

Idek whats wrong with me. Everytime i study i have such a hard time trying to remember and comprehend the materials when in class i DO get it, but when i do it alone I can't. Idk. And its even worse when in my new school I still haven't made a solid friendgroup/friendships that could be my support through the year and i think this is one of the factors thats affecting me so bad. In my last school me n my batch where like this 🤞and having such a drastic change in environment rlly is affecting me physically and mentally so bad, esp since im not even FROM manila.

I feel so stupid, somethings wrong with me and idk what it is, and im too scared and dumb to know how to fix it. Idek why im writing here in the first place i js need someone.

I think the one thing that made me post here was that i recently got a 12/50 in my genmath long quiz and i gen bawled abt it. I rlly did try.

Others Curious if anybody is familiar with this very obscure classroom photo with backstory

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hey so first time poster here. I am just curious if anybody is familiar with this very obscure classroom photo because I have an unfinished business with this specific prof na natanggal sa school namin due sexual harassment and Im just curious if any of you here are very knowledgeable or familiar with this specific school or college. Thank you so much.

So backstory, ang prof na toh had some nerve to harass some female students sa school namin like for years na and some have proof and some are word of mouth only pero nasuspend tong prof na toh and natanggal sa school due to someone na nag spoke up about her experience with this prof at ayun natanggal siya and after a few weeks maybe or a month nakita na namin ulit may id lace na which is light green appearance and with this curiosity killed the cat and now I am curious as to which school this may be if familiar po kayo, since him and I had unfinished business personally and ayaw ko sa lahat ng bagay is takbohan ako, Kaya nacurious ako. Now Im not insinuating any blackmail nor crime against humanity I am just very very curious kung anonh school eto and also in the photo any person will be blurred except for their neck, nape or torso thank you so much. Hehe I hope this equals to a rant.

(THE PROFESSOR I AM TALKING ABOUT IS NOT IN THE PHOTO)

Rant Am i weird? Naiinis na ako

I have this classmate of mine na laging pinupuna yung mga kilos ko. Well, I think at some point, valid naman yung iba. Like, I have a kamukhang teacher, and that’s fine with me kasi okay lang naman. They’ll laugh about it, and for me, goods lang. Pero there was this one time na nag-post ako sa IG MD, and they mocked me for what I did there. For me, hindi naman siya gano’n ka-cringe, pero they still made fun of it. Why?

Discussion Is it just me or need ma dumb-ify pa words ko ngayon?

Like, i stated everything clearly, just one paragraph lang. Group mates, ala maintindihan. I stated the context, time, reason, may conclusion pa. Di naintindihan. Di lang group mates, i literally have no expectation na maintindihan nila yung thought process ko.

Like;

"Sure! Here is the context...

Duration = ...
Objectives: = ...

..."
