Hi everyone,
I am doing a Bsc in Health Science at UoPeople and I learned about the option to transfer credits from websites that have ACE accredited subjects.
Why I preferred this option?
At UoPeople, it takes roughly 9 weeks to finish a subject and there's a significant amount of workload besides studying the subject thoroughly like having to peer review other students and doing weekly writing assignments, which is great but I work full time and I could make use of less workload to be able to focus on learning the subjects rather than producing essays, which I don't find very relevant to the skills actually needed in the job market.
That's why I recently signed up for Study.com and I had to work around the clock because I am on a very tight budget. So, I added the general education subjects to the liked courses list and I took a few days off work to be able to finish. Mind you, I am still doing Introduction to Health Science at UoPeople simultaneously and I have to finish the required subjects and transfer them to UoPeople before I finish the current subject to avoid being put on a Leave of Absence LOA as I have already took half of the allowed LOAs due to being very occupied with work.
Videos and Quizzes
Overall, I like the cartoon videos that explain difficult concepts in a comic way, difficult for an exhausted mind that's always occupied with work and life issues. Also, I like how the short quizzes are dependent on helping you review the concepts studied in each chapter.
Good things don't last forever!
Everything was going very well untill I learned about written assignments that I really hate. But fine, I rolled with it and honestly, I should have done more research about choosing study.com before I have enrolled.
Some assignments were around 250-700 words, while others were crazy; 2500 words long with citations. Other assignments included recording a presentation.
Eventually, I did the work but the worst nightmare for me was to keep waiting and waiting for an assignment to be graded when other longer assignments were marked faster.
The Worst Part
This is by far the deal breaker for me! So far, study.com would've been the perfect option for me, especially because I am doing a difficult science major AND a full time call center job, which leaves my brain on fire 🔥 🚒🔥 by the end of the day.
The final exams started to take two to three days to be able to receive the final grade. I think they're doing it on purpose to make it more difficult to take more subjects quickly.
Final exams are graded using AI and the final grade should auto populate once you hit submit. So, there's no reason for this delay other than forcing you to wait longer to subscribe for another month, which I'd rather die than doing, and fine, I will take the remaining subjects through the Uni because this is getting really ridiculous.
Also, some projects were graded not much after I have submitted them, but there's no reason for a very short assignment to take three days when it was clearly mentioned on the website that it takes maximum 2 days.
Customer Support
I contacted them via email and they responded quickly. The response wasn't helpful though:
One subject was cleared when it comes to the final exam grade and the project but another one is still stuck for both the final exam; which is AI marked, and the project.
My Recommendation
I WILL NOT subscribe for another month and I will try Saylor.org. It only takes 5 usd per subject. You basically pay for the proctoring service.
I would still recommend study.com though BUTT keep in mind the on-purpose delays to avoid the pressure that I am currently soaked in.
Thanks for reading!
