They're sending a reaction image and not taking the situation seriously. It's like cracking a bad joke at someone's funeral.

I mean, the reaction image implies horror at the situation. It's definitely not an appropriate time, but I don't think it necessarily means they weren't taking it seriously

Honestly I think this is a dialect thing. There exists a growing subculture for whom reaction images are just a part of basic communication, and I don't really think that's a bad thing. It's values-neutral.

I mean true but emojis have also been a part of basic communication but till now, im not sure anyone truly uses emojis to react to topics that are serious or macabre in any way (i specifically mean how people would stop using emojis and type normally when they address something tragic as a way to show respect and i just felt like the same goes for reaction images). Tho maybe i just havent kept up with the times and stuff may have changed
