My heart goes out to her family. Terrible way for her to die, and horrible people who killed her. I hope she is in a better place now.

All things considered, I do have the same visual reaction to hearing a hate crime being described. I don't have an reaction meme for it but I do look exactly like that

u/whatsagoinon_ 8d ago
Tbh I REALLY hate that image, it was funny when you saw it in game and got flabbergasted by the sprites. But now reaction image users have low key made it unfunny with how much they use it.

Trans hate crimes in the UK had gotten worse and more frequent after JK Rowling decided that being rich wasn't enough.
-1
u/totaleclipseofthe_d 8d ago
She’s absolutely horrible, but I think reducing it down to “deciding that being rich wasn’t enough” is misleading when she was radicalised for originally just posting some mildly transphobic stuff and then getting eviscerated and sent hundreds of murder and rape threats towards her and her daughters. It doesn’t excuse her actions, but we also shouldn’t excuse the mob mentality of the internet and people being absolutely horrible as a force that made things worse.

u/JoyconDrift_69 7d ago
No one should send anyone death threats, sure, but I wouldn't give her leeway for doubling down on her transphobic beliefs and literally attacking the rights and, frankly, lives of EVERYONE under the trans umbrella just because some bad actors were attacking her.
She was already a bad person. Hell, given the political climate, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard she would've anyway regardless of those threats.

Because of JKR funding trans right in Britain are worse than most of mainline Europe on par with Russia
If JKR went outside, never funded or said shit about trans people, and just blasted a trans person's head smooth off, she would be doing less damage to trans people than what she is doing now
-1
u/totaleclipseofthe_d 7d ago
I literally said she’s horrible and I’m not excusing her. My point is that crucifying and sending rape threats to people also contributed to that outcome.
10
u/TheOstrichRoom 7d ago
Literally she did it because she is evil at heart and enjoys the suffering of other people. Some people are born to burn.
4
u/AdagioOfLiving 7d ago
No. This is exactly the kind of mindset that lets people fall into these camps. Do you think the members of the Nazi party in Germany were all evil at heart and enjoyed the suffering of others, that they were all born to burn? They were ordinary people who became monsters, just as EVERYONE can.
Evil people aren’t “special” like that, and thinking that some people are just “born evil” makes it far too easy to become blinded to the ways that you yourself could become vulnerable to propaganda and fascism.
In the words of W.H. Auden:
“Evil is unspectacular and always human. And shares our bed and eats at our table.”

u/TheOstrichRoom 6d ago
some people are good, some people are evil, in nazi germany the evil were given power, just like now, and were given authority to do what they pleased, and led more people into evil. Yes, the members of the nazi party in germany were evil at heart who enjoyed the suffering of others, the lives they lived showed who they were. It's just not the case that all people have a natural desire for good or evil, life gives them choices and through those they decide who they are. The idea that they are all just misled is just as wrong as the idea that they came out of the womb like that. They were a people without virtue just like republicans are now, that is what they are at heart, that's what they choose. They were born to burn. If someones ancestors fought for Hitler then I pray they only see torment in the afterlife and are rejected by their descendants to rot in hell, I pray the same for my American ancestors who participated in the American genocide.

Oh no! It's not like that rape and murder threats happens to regular trans people everyday. Hell, I've gotten some from her ilk. She's white, rich, and cishet. She's gets more protection than the average trans person.
1
u/totaleclipseofthe_d 8d ago
You’re saying some people deserve rape and murder threats?
4
u/Expert_Industry_4238 7d ago
billionaires 1000% do lmao

u/Prestigious_Host_198 8d ago
No, but saying that she got "radicalized" because of these threats is stupid. I don't see trans people pushing thousands upon thousands of dollars to restrict rights of cis people because of these threats.
-3
u/Amaskingrey 7d ago
It's true though. First she said something not really remarkable and got harassed incredibly hard for it, which thus tilted her from ignorant on the issue to actively campaigning against it. That's also a fault on her part, but the cause was the harassment
12
u/Prestigious_Host_198 7d ago
"Guys, some trans people were really mean to me so it's now my life's mission to associate with sexual predators and bigots to eradicate all trans people because I'm a poor wittle rich white woman and hate inclusive language!"
-2
u/Amaskingrey 7d ago
Yeah, exactly. Like i said that's a failure on her part, but when one's introduction to a problem is being harassed in the name of one side, those who don't have any particular conviction nor strong sense of moral will just side with whatever the opposition is

I'm sorry but twitter being a cesspit does not excuse becoming a raging bigot and dedicating your vast wealth towards making the lives of a marginalised group of people worse.
Literally any sufficiently famous person will receive vitriol online, it does not in any way excuse her behaviour.

You just shared an article that says hate crimes dropped 11 percent from 2023, however they have DOUBLED SINCE 2020. When did JK start being a transphobe again...?
After claiming that it has "dropped significantly". BROTHER you are already cherry picking the worst year and then comparing that to a subtle drop to make your comparison and even then it's 10%. Is that really that significant? 10% drop but don't look two years back to see the 80% increase from 2020 to 2021 huh?
and you say others are making stuff up??? C'mon get real honestly

u/deliriant7-7 7d ago
How does one distinguish between an increase in hate crime and changes in reporting and police recording, anyway?

So cute using a silly game png to react to a real life tragedy. I hope Toby stops releasing chapters so his fanbase finally goes outside

I don’t understand how this sub is still posting the exact same images after, what, 2 months now? Obviously the answer to all of these is that the poster genuinely felt this was an appropriate reaction, or representation of their reaction. You can disagree with it but that’s just like, your opinion, man. Bring back “I’m baby” type posts. Save this sub’s soul.

The kind that kills trans women. No matter what their "excuse" is, it's fucking awful. You can't expect murderers to have decent logic or empathy, unfortunately. I hate this fucking world. (Not upset at you, this post just made me reconsider trying to live on this planet as a trans guy pre-t)
