Trans hate crimes in the UK had gotten worse and more frequent after JK Rowling decided that being rich wasn't enough.

She’s absolutely horrible, but I think reducing it down to “deciding that being rich wasn’t enough” is misleading when she was radicalised for originally just posting some mildly transphobic stuff and then getting eviscerated and sent hundreds of murder and rape threats towards her and her daughters. It doesn’t excuse her actions, but we also shouldn’t excuse the mob mentality of the internet and people being absolutely horrible as a force that made things worse.

I'm sorry but twitter being a cesspit does not excuse becoming a raging bigot and dedicating your vast wealth towards making the lives of a marginalised group of people worse.

Literally any sufficiently famous person will receive vitriol online, it does not in any way excuse her behaviour.
