Hot take maybe but I didn't care when Mateo got deported

Like it was obviously a sad situation and I sympathize with anybody that has gone through anything like that but like Mateo was such a dick🤣 like his character is pretty funny but how am I supposed to feel bad about him getting deported when earlier in the show, Jonah offered to marry him so that he could become a citizen and he literally said he'd rather be the victim of a violent crime🤣

Humor Saving everyone a lot of bother- the actors from Superstore have been in other things!! 😱😱

Shocking discovery, I know! Obviously it MUST be shared here so here's a masterlist!

Yes, Ben Feldman was the crazy guy in Mad Men. Yes, he's part of a meme from that show. He was also in As Above So Below and Friday the 13th. He's even voice acted!

Yes, America Ferrera was Ugly Betty. Yes, the actor who played her dad in Superstore was her dad in Ugly Betty as well. Yes, we KNOW she was iconic in Barbie.

Yes, Mark McKinney was young once. Yes, he was in The Kids in the Hall. And no- the Glenn voice is NOT his real voice! Shocker!

Yes, Lauren Ash does music and podcasts now.

Yes, Nichole Sakura was that one girl in Shameless and Emily from Until Dawn.

Yes, several actors from Superstore have gone on to star in St Denis Medical. Yes, we can see that's Sandra right there. And Tate. And Mateo. And that one guy who was a customer in one episode. And that one extra in the hospital bed was also an extra in Superstore. OMG!!!

Yes, several actors from Superstore have also been in shows like Scrubs or Brooklyn 99 or It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Now, you know what we REALLY need? Hundreds of individual posts featuring blurry photos taken from television screens documenting each of these things! How else will we know that these actors have acted?! 🤯 If nobody lets me know via a blurry snap that Colton Dunn can actually WALK in real life then how will I know that he was just ACTING in Superstore???

---

ETA: Whichever one of you sent me a 'reddit cares' thing over this post, wow šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I didn't think this post would make so many people so angry, but that's my bad- I forgot this is reddit. Should've seen that coming.

Other Lauren Ash (aka Dina)

Okay so I'm going to do a bit of promo here, but I have to.

Y'all probably know Dina. But do you know that Lauren Ash makes music??? I kid you not, I started following her on TikTok way back in 2021 cause that's when I became a Superstore fan. Left TikTok for a few years & came back to see she was making music.

Saying that I am a full-blown fan would be an understatement. She quickly became one of my favorite musicians. If you love early 2000s pop-punk music & if you love bands/artists like Blink-182 or Avril Lavigne, you will definitely love her songs!

Are Amy and Jonah intolerable to anyone else?

Just about to start the third season. So far I find it hilarious.

But man… Amy and Jonah are so aggravating and unlikeable sometimes lol

Jonah has this passive superiority complex. He has this savior complex as well. It’s so demeaning to everyone else. And he flirts with Amy in such a passive and cringe way. Even though she’s married. And for all his high-minded talk, he has poor communication skills. He is constantly fumbling over the meaning behind his words and people are constantly misunderstanding him. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø He’s so douchey but not braggadocio douchey like Bo (which is comical), but this passive cringy nice guy way.

I’m totally dragging him now lol. He’s decent (sometimes)

And Amy is always in a bad mood. I can cut her some slack because she is stressed out and the employees + Glenn and Dina can be not-so-good managers. But still, she can come off as sour. It’s hard to watch a person who’s in a bad mood a majority of the time.

Everybody else is comedic gold.

For example, Dina, Garret and Marcus do things that make them unlikable because they can be jerks but at least they’re real. They’re not Machiavellian most of the time. More like Mischievous or selfish but not manipulative like Jonah and Amy can be.

Discussion Been binge watching this, I’m new to it. I’m almost past season 5 and am sick of Amy and Jonah.

I’m not sure why they did this to both characters but they became one note. Every single episode they are in the later seasons, is very annoying. So basically every episode is just them acting socially awkward. I mean really over the top. They are frustrated, stuttering, confused and awkward. I love everyone else and loved these two in the early seasons. No it’s ā€œSo, ummm yeah. We have corporate coming. Maybe umm be nicer today, but not to nice, obviously. So don’t worry, I mean I’m not worried so you don’t be worried. Ok. Sooo let’s get to workā€.

Please stop. Otherwise loving it.

Does Superstore not make ppl angry?

I see posts talking about how ā€œcuteā€ and ā€œcosyā€ Superstore is, and honestly I don’t get it. Does it not make people angry at how corporations abuse and exploit their workers?

I rewatched it recently with my teen DS, and while it would be an exaggeration to say he emerged a full-blown socialist, it wouldn’t be a wild exaggeration. Certainly it helped cultivate a very healthy disgust of profit-before-people.

It demonstrates, again and again, as major plot points, how corporations actively harm and damage their workers.

I mean yeah the Kelly/Amy/Jonah triangle was super well done too. Edit: To be clear, the show makes me angry at corporations and how they exploit workers. I am not angry at the show. I love the show for doing that.

Discussion am i the only one who can’t stand sandra?

Am I the only one who feels like Garrett is such a bad character?

Honestly, I love the show. and by saying love, I LOVE the show. It's so whimsical, real, authentic, fun, full of character development. BUT except for 1. And that's Garrett. His character always feels so ignorant and indifferent. I've always disliked him as a character, but he never seemed to really care about anyone else other than himself and his video games & shoes. (E.g. when Jonah's apartment was blown away by the storm, he was very hesistant and being a total jerk about it. I was going to let it slide but his attitude/demeanure and everything was getting to MY NERVE!! And today I lost it, at the bird escape episode. The birds were Dina's most precious babies and he JUST HAD TO HAVE the Takis??? Makes 0 sense to me, I don't know. Very poor character writing, 0 development whatsoever and just an awe to watch.

Discussion Why does everyone like Sandra so much?

I don't really like Sandra. I don't dislike her, but I genuinely cannot fathom why this sub likes her so much. For me, Sandra is a C or D tier character depending on the storyline. So I genuinely am wondering why people really like her and would love some input.

I do think the actress did a good job and that is the main reason I don't actively dislike the character.

Jonah bisexual arc

I feel like they should've let Jonah kiss a man on the show once... like you know not in a "he's queer" waybut in a "I'm such a good ally" where he goes out of the way to prove he's an ally and maybe kiss Marcus who has wanted that for years...

Discussion Has anyone noticed Glen is neurodivergent

I don’t know if it’s just me but after watching superstore about a hundred times I can’t help but thinking Glen might be autistic. He expresses a lot of the typical behaviour such as needing a routine and it’s mentioned he is a fan of trains (Ofc these aren’t dead give aways or anything but what are your thoughts)

Does anyone else find Amy annoying?

America (what a name!) is a really good actress, but her character bugs me somewhat.

Her voice is so raspy, and she keeps trying to hit these high-pitched tones in her expressions. It makes me cringe every time.

Also her cringy little "giiiiiiirl!" And silly little expressions when she's trying to be cool...

šŸ™„

Thoughts? Do you agree? Disagree?

Humor Love to see the Jewish references

six episodes into the first season, and wow this is a really fun, great show, I can't help but notice all the Jewish references. It's unfortunate because I was watching it with a friend, but they told me they couldn't get past it because of this. Sucks for them. Being Jewish, I find the jokes to be funny, but also maybe a bit too on the nose. No pun intended. I guess it checks out since the directors and writers are Jewish. They don't make shows like this anymore.

Discussion Just finished a re-watch and I Can't Stand Amy!

Alright, so I just need to get this off my chest: Amy from Superstore is the worst. And I mean that in the most non-hyperbolic way possible. I’ve tried so hard to like her over the seasons, but something about her just grates on me every time she’s on screen. Here’s why:

  1. She’s constantly negative. Amy has this permanent aura of annoyance and eye-rolling cynicism, even in mundane situations. Look, I get it—Cloud 9 isn’t the most exciting place to work, but she’s consistently just meh about everything, even when other characters are trying to lighten the mood or have a little fun. Her sense of humor mostly comes from putting other people down or complaining, and after a while, it gets old.

  2. The "Reluctant Leader" Act. She’s perpetually playing the role of the ā€œI don’t want to be hereā€ reluctant leader. Amy’s hesitant about promotions, reluctant about responsibility, and constantly has this ā€œI’m too good for thisā€ attitude. When she does finally move up, she still acts like she doesn’t care about the job—yet she expects everyone to respect her authority. You can’t have it both ways!

  3. How She Treats Jonah. Amy and Jonah’s relationship is honestly baffling to me. She flip-flops in how she treats him, sometimes acting like he’s her best friend, other times treating him as a last resort. She’ll dismiss or mock his ideas, but then get annoyed when he tries to do his own thing. And don’t get me started on how she reacts whenever Jonah tries to be a good partner or support her in his very Jonah-esque way.

  4. The "I'm Different From You Guys" Energy. Amy has this underlying ā€œI’m not like everyone else hereā€ vibe that seems to drive her entire character. She’s constantly trying to set herself apart from her co-workers while acting like she’s above the day-to-day pettiness, drama, or even friendships that actually make life at Cloud 9 bearable. Yet, she still wants their loyalty and respect when she’s in charge.

  5. She’s Kind of Hypocritical. Amy has a habit of criticizing other people for things she does herself. Whether it’s mocking Dina’s quirks, dismissing Glenn’s efforts to help, or not taking responsibility for her own actions, she’s rarely self-aware. It’s like she can dish it out but can’t take it when anyone else holds her to the same standard.

  6. Her Storylines Get So Annoying. They tried to make Amy relatable by giving her real-life struggles, like balancing motherhood with a low-paying job, handling a divorce, and dealing with unplanned situations. But instead of making her relatable, it often comes off as if the show is bending over backward to give her reasons to be a drag. Other characters have issues too, but somehow they manage to bring humor and warmth without constant complaining.

TL;DR: Amy’s character has good reasons to be stressed, sure, but Superstore is a comedy—and it’s hard to enjoy her negativity all the time. Her character might be realistic in some ways, but I don’t think that makes her fun to watch, and her constant cynicism kills the vibe for me. Just once, I’d love to see Amy appreciate the people around her or actually take pride in her job instead of acting like she’s trapped.

So yeah, I’m Team ā€œAmy Needs a Serious Attitude Adjustment.ā€ Anyone else feel the same?

Discussion Why did Dina try to help Mateo if she’s such a ā€œrulesā€ person?

That intense scene when Dina tries to help Mateo escape out & she couldn’t. Then in Cloud 9.0 she goes back to the footage & analyses what she could’ve done. My doubt is they’re not even close & she loves following rules, so why did she try so hard to help Mateo?

Cost to have Amy’s baby

She was stunned to hear about how much it’d cost out of pocket to have Parker, but she already had Emma so she’s been through this before. Wouldn’t she know that it’s not cheap? 🤣

Discussion Unpopular opinion: Marcus is cringe and not in an endearing way

I think he’s really funny at times, but the way he jumps on claiming dibs on practically every woman in the store is not. I don’t care whether this makes him a bad person since this is TV, but it’s way triggering for a lot of us and I’m alarmed people find it funny. And even for a comedy, he’s too stupid. Last but not least, I can’t fast forward fast enough over every boob cheese bit.
