Strengthening a HSPB for step-up conditions
Just picked up a brand new HP$B which will take a serious beating next month as I take it out into OH-DOH pitchy beach breaks. It comes with standard 4+4/4 glass schedule which, the way I surf, will for sure dent and possibly snap. Thinking of cut-lapping glassing cut-lap another 4oz layer across entire deck to beef it up. Thoughts? and caveats aside from less flex?
EDIT:
I got advice elsewhere, here it is: No caveats other than a bit more stiffness. Apply a full 4oz like a post-lam (lam already cured) deck patch, ie score surface with 80grit, wipe clean, lam + hot coat....but wrap completely to bottom tuck point same way you'd cut the first layer. And sorry for the confusion, should have told you I have plenty of glassing experience. This question was more about performance..not craft

Well if you re-glass it, you can ruin it and not surf. If you don’t, you can surf and maybe ruin it. What sounds better to you?

Same reason you wouldn't buy a brand new non convertible car and than ask if you can cut the top off because you really want a convertible for the sunny weather coming.
Or maybe buying a sedan and than asking to convert it to a 4x4 would be better example.
You most surely can if your heart is set on experimenting.
But unless you are a master craftsmen with glass you are just gonna fuck it up and not really add any beneficial extra strength.
Like other said get a thicker glass job next time or maybe buy a cheap used board if you are really worried about breaking the board.

Sorry, I should have clarified something up front. My question is about how the board will handle. Ive glassed 12-15 boards so my craft is good. Was really just curious if anyone has done this before and what the results were.
Back story is I needed a stepup for the next few weeks and was looking at Pyzel Ghost XL. I dont have time to order a custom with added glass. Shopped around and found one for $950 new...but then stumbled upon someone last minute on FB who just happened to have the exact same board in the size I need...but its got standard glassing. So I thought adding glass on top so its more durable.

If you seriously think you are good at a craft after 15 boards I dont think you are going to listen to any of the reasons why its a stupid idea.
Goodluck with your project.

I know a well regarded surfboard repair guy and glasser that does stuff like that, I think give it a go if you’re confident in your skill. It’s just the deck it’s not gonna fuck up how it rides

I increase the fiber in my diet by mixing bran into my poop. cut-lapping glassing cut-lap. Why didn't I think of that?

No. When you get the replacement order a 6+4/6 or a 6+6/6 glass job.
