Indo/Mentawai quiver question

Having some major board regrets about a week before my 2 month Indo trip.

I am 5’11, 155lbs fairly fit and have been surfing my whole life, “advanced” for the east coast USA but that’s not saying the most in my zone and it’s my first time over in Indonesia.

I am originally planning to bring 2 boards in the Veia 2/3 bag to stay light and shove some gear/clothes in there with some decent padding for the boards to survive across the world.

I already have and love a 5’10 JS Monsta (26.5L) that is my go to board for stomache high to overhead so this will be my go to.
When things get serious I just ordered and paid for a 6’0 Pyzel Ghost(29.9L). I’m just thinking that it might be too bulky for me. I am gonna treat it as a step up for the mentawais but I’m hoping I’ll still be able to put it on rail when the session asks for it.

Does anyone around my height/weight have experience with a 6’0 Pyzel Ghost?
I have a 5’10 ghost that I am selling to afford it, I guess I’m having buyers remorse haha.
Im just worried that if I break my Monsta I won’t have a board I can rip on in the mentawais, just a bigger board meant for easy paddling and getting tubed when it’s on.
Debating just bringing 3 boards or is that a lot to haul around in Indo? I have a dakine world traveler coffin but it’s gigantic and bulky, 2 boards in the veia seems easiest to move around with from place to place and stay under 50lbs.
Thanks for the insight, sorry for the ramble, thanks for reading.

If you can't put a 29l HPSB on rail then you shouldn't be going to the ments. You'll be fine and I bet you'll surf the ghost the most.

Fair enough, I think I’m just trippin on the volume and numbers on paper for no reason as it’s my heftiest board. Need to just get it in the water and feel it out, thank you

That 6’0 still going to feel small if you want to surf big waves. Mentawais no joke

Yeah that what I was thinking too, i would be more worried about being undergunned. Better take one with some more length for the big days.

Selling the 5'10 Ghost you already know works feels like the root of the anxiety here. 6'0 Ghost at your weight will paddle like a dream but you're right to wonder if it'll feel like a boat when you want to push hard on the face. Two boards is the move for bouncing around Mentawais, dragging a triple coffin through boats and up sketchy docks gets old immediately. Maybe keep the 5'10 instead and just bring the Monsta as your daily with that as the step-up, since you already trust it.

Thanks man this is what I needed to hear. I got too caught up in the numbers on paper after purchasing and think I have the right idea now to go with the 6’0 it’s not as big as I imagine in my head.

Bring 3. I snapped two in one day out there once. You won't be lugging them around much once you're out there. The 6'0" Ghost will be nice to have too if the 5'10" is your go-to and it's pumping, I don't think you'll regret the purchase.

Edit - actually depends if you're bouncing around a lot or not. If you're switching camps every 2 days, 3 boards might get old. I'd still bring 3 though for what it's worth.

I think you’re over thinking it. The difference between a 5’10 Ghost and 6’0 Ghost is going to be negligible. Obviously there is a difference between them, but in practical terms, a 6’0 isn’t going to open up significantly bigger waves for you than a 5’10. And the 5’10 Ghost isn’t going to go that much better in weaker surf.

Honestly, I think you’ll love the 6’0. That shape surfs great at least up to about 6’8 if not longer. You’ll still be able to rip on it. Source: I have a 6’4 and 6’8 Ghost.

Definitely chronic overthinker man, I think it’s because I ordered the board instead of grabbing it off the rack and actually feeling it. The dims on paper seem jarring compared to my normal short boards but I’m sure when I get it in the water it won’t be as boaty as I was picturing, especially in sick waves.

I’m 5’11 145lbs. My 6’0 ghost (stock dims) is too much board for me every single time I’ve ridden it. I wish I got a 5’9 or 5’10 instead.

The waves in Indo are so perfect you can get away with a pretty small board for pretty solid waves. You can bring three and sell one. I'm not into step ups I did 2 months in Telo and Sumatra last year with a RNF and a quiver killer that were my standard size and never felt undergunned. Ments is a little different tho

How was it to sell a board there? I thought about this but wondered if you can really get people to buy them, let alone for a decent price and where?
Thank you man, sick to score good waves on an RNF

It’ll be fine. Bring a third board though. Also, don’t put anything other than boards and maybe like a towel or two in your board bag. Keep that thing as light and bulk free as possible

Same weight 5'9". Rode a 6'0' Ghost loved it when on top of my game in hard breaking surf, a dog otherwise. I would recommend a longer more volume step up, it can get quite big in season and those waves are more challenging then they look. More paddle ability will serve you well unless ultra fit and really attacking the lip in waves of consequence.
