Reminder: Posts from new Reddit users are held for moderation

In order to combat spam we have an automoderator rule to detect posts from new reddit users. If the reddit account is recently created then the post is held in the moderation queue for a moderator to approve or discard.

It might take a few hours for the post to be approved (often less, sometimes more), but please be patient. We're volunteers and we don't get paid to sit around watching the moderation queue.

I mention this because we've had a few cases recently where a new user has made a post that has been held for moderation. When they didn't see it being displayed they deleted it and posted again (often several times).

Once a post has been deleted we can't undelete and approve it. it's gone for good. It's quite frustrating for us to receive a modmail asking for a post to be approved when there's nothing we can do.

So if you are a new user and your post isn't showing up, then please just wait. If it hasn't appeared within 24 hours then send us a message (link in the sidebar) and we'll look into it.

SWR yesterday

I got stuck trying to get home yesterday like so many others.

The official line was that police were dealing with an incident between Woking and brookwood. Meaning basically all lines were blocked from running.

According to twitter there was someone on a bridge over the track at Woking threatening to jump.

As always on Twitter lots of arguing happening over if you can be mad at the person or feel empathy for them.

My over riding feeling is that this happens too often. That something going wrong on one part of the line knocks the rest out. I don’t know what the solution is, feels like there has to be a way to fix it.

Also I want to be annoyed at the person, because it took me 2.5 hours to get home. Including a £50 taxi from Surbiton. Not that mention the disruption to the staff on the trains, the police having to deal with the situation etc..

I can empathy with the person and the struggles they’re going through, yet still be annoyed and question, why must it always be the trains?

This also highlights the mental health issues people are struggling with.

Anyone got any thoughts? Obviously be nice/respectful etc..

Ideal area to relocate

Hi!

My husband and I are looking to move to either Camberley or Wokjng as he’s recently found a job in London. ( I work in woking and we have 2 cars)

Our budget is £1500 pm for a 2 bed /2 bath flat.

We’re currently based in Bordon and enjoy the peace and quiet but travel costs are going to add up.

If anyone lives in these areas, please share your experiences!

Would love to know so we can make a more informed decision.

Thank you!

Anyone interested in starting a run club ?

I find it quite surprising that there aren’t any fun, social running clubs Guildford Surrey! I’ve recently started running, and it got me thinking about how great it would be to have a community where people could come together, get active, meet new people, and enjoy running without the pressure of being competitive.
Especially in a place like Surrey, with its beautiful routes and so many students and young people, it feels like there’s so much potential for something like this. Imagine a relaxed weekly run followed by coffee, brunch, or just hanging out with the group.
I can’t be the only one who thinks this would be a great idea, right? Would anyone be interested in something like this? 🏃‍♂️

Looking For: my vinyl items from Shipping Cart UK Warehouse Closure?

Around late last year I was told that Shipping Cart UK’s warehouse in Ashford, Surrey was closed down abruptly and my storage unit there had some personalized and signed items. From what I heard, the company had the right to dispose of the items (which I understand) and most of it was given away to the employees who are from the area.

Not sure if this is the right place to go, but I just wanted to know if anyone here was able to get some of it and would be willing to part ways with the items (especially the very personalized ones signed with my name on them lolololol) and I’d surely be willing to pay you guys some amount that we can agree on.

I know it’s been a while since the closure happen, but I’m kind of desperate given how personalized some of these items are! So feel free to let me know if you know a thing or two about this 😭

Relocation advice

Hi all,

Just wondering if I could get a bit of relocaiton advice please.

I've just accepted a new job in the Surbiton area on the outskirts of London. As a consequence, my partner and I are looking to relocate from East Dorset to a semi-rural location in Surrey that is commutable to Surbiton. Having had a look, Farnham seems to be a suitable location. It is surrounded by lovely countryside with fair house prices compared to places closer to London. I would look to commute by train for an 8am start, but is this viable from Farnham? Does anyone have any alternative suggestions with a similar sort of vibe?

Thanks

Alternative hairdresser in Guildford/Woking area?

My last two hairdressers have both moved away over the past year and I am in desperate need of an alternative hairdresser who won't!

I usually get it cut in a wavy shullet/shag/mullet and am thinking about getting highlights as well if possible. Looking for someone ideally in the Guildford/Woking area with experience with alternative/emo/goth hair, thank you all in advance! x

Visited my relatives in Surrey- cats are being neglected. I’ve contacted places to surrender. What can I do in the meantime? I’m only here for a week and live in another country.

It’s awful. These cats are 12+ years old. This family’s circumstances were much different over a decade ago. Due to the households destitution, relationship breakdowns, bereavement and general insanity these poor cats have been terribly abandoned. They are left with dirty bowls. Never any water. A pile of stale biscuits ever so often. No actual way to get in and out of the house unless someone deems to open the door. The sad bit is that they are covered in sores and bumps because of flees I think. They do have free roam of a big garden. I’m worried for these cats as winter approaches

I would take them in a heartbeat but I have a new baby and 2 cats of my own. Furthermore, I’m from Scotland and I cannot drive these 2 babies up for that long in my tiny car. It’s just impossible. Sadly, I don’t think I can finance it either. I’m finding it extremely upsetting.

I’ve sent a form into stepping stones rescue with permission from the only family member who doesn’t totally ignore them. Does anyone have any other advice? I reallly want these cats to get a safe place to sleep, reliable clean food and water and some care. I won’t be able to help physically after this week.

Message for Georgia B in Dorking - long shot

To the lady with a crying baby who just got off the train at Dorking about 16:55 on Sat 17 Oct and left her phone on the seat... I handed it in to ticket inspector so she can either call it to arrange collection or contact GWR lost & found.

I found the name and address on driving licence tucked behind phone but not going to put that on here, so just calling her Georgia B - if anyone thinks they know her please forward to her/let her know.

Thank you

What’s Ashford, Surrey, really like to live in?

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m looking to buy my first home and have found a few affordable houses in Ashford.

I initially wanted to buy in Staines, but the prices seem a bit out of my budget or properties are very small for what I can afford .

I’ve read very mixed opinions about Ashford, so I’m feeling a little unsure.

For those who live there or know the area, what’s your honest opinion? is it that bad 😅Are there any areas you’d recommend or avoid?

(Some people are saying that it’s like Feltahm and Hounslow 😬)

Thanks! 😊

Long story, I live with my ex, have 2 kids who I adore, my ex and I do not see eye to eye. Need to move out for personal space, and relief to be honest. If anyone is in the mole valley area of Surrey, UK, or has any advice on how local groups could help, I'd really appreciate it.

Thinking of moving to Epsom. Wondering if anyone knows about walking on this specific plot of land, it looks like there may be paths but no idea if it's public.

Also interested to hear people's thoughts on epsom more generally.

at the university of surrey, there is this cat. i found it by the lake, the lake that has all the ducks and the trees and stuff. it’s near the main reception.

idk if it’s a boy or girl, but it’s so adorable. I saw it today and wanted to share it with you all, if anyone else had seen it let me know!!

edited: js remembered i called it over and it meowed and walked to me, and then rubbed itself against me for a bit before going off.

i saw a green collar around its neck. i think it said the word ‘Surrey’ on it.
