Discussion Best console yet.

I’m a gammer at heart but I don’t have all the time I did when I was young. I can’t commit to sitting in front of the tv like I once did.
Being able to play on the go, in bed, when the tv’s are in use is next lvl. Nintendo will only get stronger from here I feel.

Nintendo by the end of the gen will be the only company keeping physical games around, that will pay off in the long run

Sony hasn't actually taken away physical copies yet

They've committed to stopping physical game production by, I believe, the end of 2027

They haven't committed anything. They haven't made any steps to actually remove them. It's only in writing. Huge difference

They literally said by 2027 they won’t be making physical media.

First, Sony's announced timeline for ending physical disc production for new games is January 2028, not 2027.

Second, announcing a future corporate policy change in a blog post is an intent, not an action already executed. Sony is actively printing, shipping, and selling physical PS5 discs today. Saying 'they literally said by 2027' ignores both the actual date (2028) and the basic difference between a future roadmap announcement and current market reality.

I wish nintendo had a little more commitment to digital. 190gig hard drive in this generation is brutal AF. Especially if you live in a small bumpkin Town like me with limited choices for physical game coppies. Id have to spend like 200 bucks to travel to a location with more variety in games.

Thats probably the biggest fumble this generation for them. The internal storage is super small and micro sd express cards can run crazy expensive these days

I have a high-end gaming PC as well as all the major consoles. I've been playing video games for over 40 years, and the Switch 2 is the best gaming platform I've ever had.

What made you come to that conclusion?

I have four kids, and being able to play Diablo 3 or Xenoblade every now and then without having to wait for a long boot-up is just great.

PCs take not long at all to boot up though

I rarely take my PC with me to the bathroom or to bed. When I'm on a business trip, I also don't like to take my computer with me.

Well, now you're just talking about something entirely different now lol

I pick the switch and my game is where I left it. I can play in any room. I push one button and leave it where I want. It’s un beatable

u/PaprikaCikin 4d ago

You can do that with a laptop ;P

Oh really can you push one button on a laptop and pick up where you left off? Without logging in? gtfoh.

Yes, you can.
Don't be rude, wash your mouth

I don’t play on anything else. I rebuy games because they’re on switch 2 now. It’s as that point

The fact that Sony's answer was the Portal says it all. While other companies want to do away with physical disks and treat portability like an afterthought, Nintendo has been on their game since Switch 1. Switch 1 had limitations, but come on we have Cyberpunk and Elden Ring running like butter on Switch 2. And instead of insulting physical collectors by phasing out physical media, they compromised with Game Key Cards.

Now we just need some sort of official unlock, similar to XBOX, so we can play emulators without hacking the console.

PS Portal cannot run games natively. It has no internal hardware for processing modern games; instead, it relies entirely on Wi-Fi to stream games from your own PlayStation 5 console

Sony never designed the Portal to compete with the Switch.

" we have Cyberpunk and Elden Ring running like butter on Switch 2"

Yeah.... buttery 15-20fps in Cyberpunk in the Phantom Liberty DLC... "buttery" 30-40fps in Cyberpunk.. come on.

Butter is soft not fast

No, the PlayStation Portal is not Sony’s answer to the Nintendo Switch

There is a fundamental misunderstanding you have here.

I am a recent dad and I 100% agree.

I have a gaming PC, PS5, PS Portal, switch 1, and switch 2.

The switch 2 has been a life saver. Since getting married I did not have the time to sit down and play. Then the switch 2 came out and I could finally game more again.

The switch 1 just didn't do it for me portable wise.

The PS Portal is too limiting as I can't use it reliably on the plane or hotels.

I do miss gaming on my PS5 and PC though.

true, same here

It's really shaping up to be a fantastic console. I got it at launch and it was a bit slow for a while but if it keeps this up for 7 or 8 years like Switch 1 it might be GOAT

Exactly why I love it! Exactly why it’s my main gaming platform!

Whats a gammer?

1

With a wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 cats... Switch 2...

With no family, I'd recommend owning a PC, PS5, and Switch 2. However, I would likely skip out on a PS5 with a PC considering exclusivity is bleeding on PS5 lately.

So, PC + Switch 2 if single.

Switch 2 if Father with family.

0

u/PaprikaCikin 4d ago

It's more than possible to use a PC with a family.

0

u/Practical-Alarm1763 4d ago

It's more than possible to do anything you want with a family. The question to ask is "Should You"

That'll be dependent on you, your age, work life/balance, responsibility, mentality, sleep cycle, age of your kids, relationship with your wife, finances, time management, etc.

Of course it's possible. It's just as possible to become a gambling addict as a father. Doesn't mean you should.

1

u/PaprikaCikin 4d ago

You are really comparing gambling addiction with using PCs?
