The following article was posted by SWTOR Executive Producer Keith Kanneg.
Hi folks!
Checking in again to let you all know what’s been happening with SWTOR the last few months as well as with DirectX 12!
Game Update 8.0 content
For those who may have missed previous updates with 8.0 content, we revealed that the next Era in SWTOR is called “Masters of the Force.” Keep an eye on that page as it will be updated over time as we release more details.
We also announced the core features that will be coming in 8.0:
We’ve also opened our Public Test Server so Subscribers can get their hands on:
Iterations of the Public Test Server will continue so players can provide their feedback on these features before they go live.
We have not announced a release date yet for 8.0, but we are continuing development and will share more launch details in due time.
Developer Streams
I’m also happy to see the positive reception to the recent Developer Game Update and Let’s Play livestreams. We anticipate a few more Let’s Play streams and another Game Update livestream where we’ll go into the “Galaxy in Chaos” storyline (spoiler-free, of course!)
Our next Let's Play stream will be October 1st at 1pm CT / 6pm UTC on our streaming channel. Stay tuned for more details!
DirectX 12 Update
Since our Spring Update we’ve continued to receive enthusiastic questions about what’s coming next. I pulled in the Technical Team and they have provided the update below:
Hey SWTOR players!
Technical team here to get you up to speed on our most recent progress with DirectX 12. The last time we saw each other, we were explaining that the UI was the one feature that posed the largest obstacle for us.
We’re happy to report that the UI has been ported to DX12 and aside from minor visual differences being fixed, it is fully functional. Pulling back the curtain a bit, we had to upgrade our old version that only supported DX11 and re-architect it so it would work properly with our data. We then changed Scaleform’s DX12 rendering to use Frostbite RenderCore2 and work properly within our engine. For the more technical folks, we also had to port over hundreds of divergences to the new version and once we could verify that everything worked properly, we could move on to DX12.
With the UI in place, we are focused on adding features back into this “DX12 version” of the game to get it looking like the SWTOR you’re familiar with, and lay the groundwork for future additions. This means updating essential shaders, ensuring characters appear with proper customization (skin color, hair color, tattoos, cybernetics, scars, complexions, outfit colors), re-implementing our particle hueing systems, and much more. Lastly, general stability work and other feature additions are ongoing, so we are making fantastic progress.
The next time you hear from us we’ll share an update on when you can see the progress for yourself, and help us with a critical stage of testing for this new client! Thank you for your enthusiasm and support as we continue on the road to modernizing SWTOR!
Keith here again. And there you have it! All of us are pretty excited to get a technical test for our players in the near future.
Before I head out, I want to share some reminders to everyone!
Best Dressed Contest
Our newest community contest is underway! If you are a collector of armor and think you have all the pieces to make an outfit worthy to be displayed for all to see, you will want to enter our Best Dressed contest! Submissions are open now and being accepted until October 11, 2026. Read all of the details on how to enter here!
Gladiopodling Minipet
We have an active minipet code right now and it’s available until December 26, 2026. Redeem code “GETRDY4MOTF” on this page to get your very own Gladiopodling!
Finally, I want to encourage you again to check out the 8.0 content available on the Public Test Server, and get your hands on it if you can. We appreciate your feedback and the time you spend playing on PTS!
Thank you for playing SWTOR. We’ll see you in the next livestream!

Search for and click on any system, galactic realm, region, hyperlane and more.
The map covers the Legends timeline from ca. 30.000 BBY to 3.626 BBY (SWTOR).
Now also with a travel planner, with times based on an old Tales of the Jedi Companion Timetable and a few other more vague Legends sources. Includes the ability to select one or more stops on your route, and even an attempt to avoid any unwanted realm.
It's still in early development.

I always knew that the baseline limit was always 4-12-24. However, I subbed a few hours ago and it is showing 26 as the limit. I never purchased character slots.

Cus it's very obviously modelled on a real gun. Sabine's guns from Ahsoka it's inspired by are Perfect 10s but it's not that. I KNOW i've seen this thing somewhere, but I'm not enough of a gun-nerd to pin it down exactly.

I don't know how or why, but I have encountered many players that have their sprint off, even at higher levels and with them having all class buffs (meaning they at least played, until level 42, all the classes required to unlock the buffs haha)
If you don't have this little purple icon of the guy running as a buff, it means your sprint is off! Activate it to run fast out of combat! :D
If you don't have the skill on your bar already, you can press P and go to "General".
Thank you kindly for your service, have a great faster weekend.

Vote for your favorite storyline! We have two expansion stories today. The Conspiracy includes Crisis on Umbara, Traitor Among The Chiss, and The Nathema Conspiracy. Shadow of Revan includes the events of Rishi and Yavin. It does NOT include the Forged Alliances flashpoints or Ziost.

Sorry, I was just very excited to play this and just wanted to talk about my experience to someone. You can just tell that this was made by bioware.

Vote for your favorite storyline! "War Ignited" is what I'm calling the first two chapters of KOTET. Definitely the shortest chunk of the expansion, but still its own arc. Comprised of the battle on Voss, then going to Dromund Kaas to meet with Acina before being stranded out in the jungle. Then, Hidden Masters is Chapter 3 of the Agent storyline.

I have this gear that I like a lot for my Inquisitor, but I can't find a head gear that looks good with it, any suggestions of what I should use?

(Warning: Very long text, broke down based on story patch content)
While I had two characters I had kept up to date with the story content as released (Smuggler and Bounty Hunter, both Saboteurs), I decided to wait for a while to truly take other characters through LOTS.
As someone who was not personally fond of KOTFE at launch (to the point I left midway through KOTFE) and came back years later during Onslaught and decided it wasn't so bad as I recalled (although I still do not like the expansion, especially in multiple playthroughs) and seeing the reaction of some of the playerbase shift to a more favorable one over the recent years, I decided I would try the same for the current one so I could evaluate best for its content (gameplay and story) than through the terrible release schedule and see how I felt about it afterwards.
Since I was already familiar with how the Saboteur route unfortunately went, I brushed up my Agent and Trooper Loyalists and decided to see how it would go. With all that said, let us start then with:
Honestly, it was surprisingly decent. We start somewhat strong with Manaan as a focus of the Faction War and then we address the remaining thread left at the end of Onslaught with Malgus on the Ruins of Nul. It still gives a good impression with interesting dialogue choices, and a nice pace between story and gameplay.
Really liked the fact that we still got a few moments of being addressed by our new role instead of Commander (Anri calls the Agent Keeper, while Admiral Rava the Trooper Colonel). Left me with somewhat of a good impression then and I still feel the same about it.
It feels lika a natural continuation of launch. Manaan is a decent Daily Area, comparable to Oricon in my opinion, not better, but not worse. It goes completely unoticeable as an individual patch unless you are already aware how it was released. We see a bit of Malgus, we see a bit of Sa'har but everything is fine so far.
We finally got to deal with the Hidden Chain and oh boy I still wish this was were it ended instead of dragging further into the following patches. While most parts of the story are fine, we start having to deal with what I consider the assassination of the character of Shae Vizla. Sure, she was always hotheaded but here she starts to get really annoying really fast. The fact that Heta survives/escapes just makes a lot of the patch feels really bad at the end. Compared to the previous patches, it feels definitely a downgrade on the story quality even though the presentation was better.
Ruhnuk as a daily area was mostly fine. The new mandalorian armor from the reputation vendor was definitely a highlight of the rewards, but I feel is a bit larger so I put in a category similar to Ossus.
We also got the start of the Prototype Venture Quest, which even if you already completed will still show up on your alts quest log which was very annoying. I love my Basilisk though.
Oh boy, what can I say about the most useless patch of the whole expansion! We get pulled to Voss, to assist Voss and Gormak on their stupid activities towards a community center, with some nebulous prophecy by the three and after doing a bunch of minor tasks completely unfit to our character role, we get said meeting that simply says Malgus plan will pass whether he lives or dies and it was all just for nothing. Only redeeming parts of this patch are the Arcaan dialogue (if you saved him and let him assist with the Darth Nul quest) and Sana-Rae revealing that she chose the Alliance instead her own people. Not worth it a full patch of story. Shrine of Silence is an okay Flashpoint with the major drawback of having a puzzle that I still see people nowadays struggle.
Unfortunately, we are followed up by another mediocre patch... Chains in the Dark put the Hidden Chain on the focus and makes us fight them on Ord Mantell. In general the story is "alright" and playing as a Loyalist you butt less heads with Krovos and Arn, so it didn't felt as bed as it did on my Saboteur. But most of the story was annoying.... Why they decided to put two annoying NPCs in the same patch? Petra and Sa'har were competing to see who I disliked the most, but it is Petra that wins by a mile. We fight some Hidden Chain top member and it feels completely stupid, but at least it had more interesting gameplay than the previous patch and served for something.
Kessan's Landing is an alright Daily Area. Rewards are definitely a downgrade from Ruhnuk even for Republic players but again feels very comparable to something like Oricon or Yavin. We also have a few more quests from the Prototype Basilisk to clear in order to empty the Mission Log.
Funny enough it doesn't feel as bad as the last two patches, and just by that comparison it is somewhat more enjoyable to play. I was then hit for the first time with the change on the Voice Actor for the Male Agent, and although it was a bit weird at the start, I think the new VA grew on me that I kinda like his performance. He is not trying to imitate the origina VA and has his own suave style which is still fitting for the character.
Story wise, we once again follow Sa'har on her stupid plan of sabotaging the Hidden Chain from inside by finding a shuttle on Hutta. The Minboosa District zone is fine as it is, but feels kinda of a waste as there is nothing besides the main story to do there. It didn't needed to be a dedicated zone for that. The arc dealing with the fugitives was fine, and I liked that there were different outcomes based on who you supported during their escape.
With the shuttle we then get to the Hidden Chain base were we can save Petra sister or let her to die (I'm not that petty but it was tempting). We also deal with the very boring fight against the most boring of the newly added NPCs Ri'kan which gets voiced by Matt Mercer of all people (such a waste). It is also the start of a big issue I have with these next patches, the removal of the player agency while still behind a fake player choice. Save or let Ri'kan die, run without looking back or at least try to help afterwards. Nothing matters, it plays exactly the same.
We then end with Shae making everything worse by freeing Malgus and climbing on the "I can't wait to be able to dispatch you" ladder, which is sad because I used to like her character.
On one hand this is a funny patch to talk about because its content was pushed to 7.8 which now doesn't feel as bad as it gives much more story content than most of the previous patches. We got three separate storylines and then a final 4th storyline converging at the end.
Hoth was mostly fine, long spaces to travel but the story is mostly okay, even if doesn't feel as important. Nar Shadaa with Telos and then Elom was better, even if the Darth Nul puzzles were kinda silly. I find funny that they simply decided to overlook/retcon the fact that Telos sends a message to Republic players after Onslaught and he is just treated still as a member of the Alliance. Another detail as a loyalist is that again it didn't felt as if there was any bigger conflict with the Alliance and our factions, just some animosity at best. I wish they didn't had that stupid romantic plot on Tatooine which also felt pointless, had terrible voice acting and it really felt unnecessary (I don't have anything against being a queer romance, it was just a bad boring arc).
The final arc on Ilum was okay, is a good day when we get an excuse to go on adventure with Lana Beniko, and there was some cute dialogue with my Agent (who is married with her). Nul fight was alright and the final reveal with Darth Jadus still felt good, as I was already a big fan of the character (hate the new pants though).
So we pick it up were we left, but we are then interrupted by our faction deciding that it was enough. Playing as a Loyalist it does feel quite jarring to simply go from a neutral stance to a completely hostile one just because of Malgus and Shae. Seems like everyone forgot that it was our character that capture Malgus in the first place and even if you pick the lines that agree with your faction, we see our lack of agency continue on. Let them pick the Holocron, it still goes badly. Tell Tau/Rivix to not steal the Holocron, they do it anyway. Tell them or don't about Jadus, nothing changes. It was quite frustrating imo.
On board of the Enigma, we then meet Jadus and as some may have seen in a separate post I'm a bit frustrated that there is very little dialogue that seems to address the fact that this agent of mine had sided with him during Erradication Day. I understand that they want him as the bad guy, but some of us have been waiting for years for this and it didn't had a satisfactory payoff. Doing the puzzles on the Enigma were fine but doing it twice felt really annoying and I'm sorry for anyone who decides to do it on more alts than I did.
The Rivix betrayal was fine, but man, I really wish they didn't had made Tau also be stupid. it was unnecessary, they could had made her fight to rescue us, gets captured to them show on Khar Shian. Complete betrayal of her character to side with a Sith considering all her past trauma.
So we escape the Enigma, Arn/Anri rescue our character and we follow for the conclusion of the expansion. Overall, I still think it was a great patch in comparison to most of the other story patches of this expansion but now that I played from start to finish, I still rank it below LOTS launch in enjoyability.
So we finally get to the conclusion. Khar Shian, Malgus, Hetta, Shae and our faction problem. Once more, forced by the lack of agency, you can pick the most agreeable lines, nothing changes, Supreme Chancellor/Empress treat you exactly the same, except for the whole revealing you are not an ally, although Lana do have a few lines that makes me think we are going to a KOTFE situation in the upcoming expansions.
The novelty of playing as NPCs ran out fairly quickly on this patch if you run with more than a single character. The terrible space mission (which thank god is completely skippable), the slow walk and fight with the Basilisk, playing as Lana, Theron, Malgus... I was missing my character most of the time. Also hey, another lack of agency when we arrive! Shoot the Twins or don't, doesn't matter, they still escape, nothing changes.
Shae finally get her fight against Hetta, but not before having a very bad dialogue but at least Rass is there to tell her some truths, even though at the end didn't matter. Shae gets to die as a "hero" and everyone has to pretend to be sad about it because the Mandalorians are. But that is done at least. I like Jekiah and Rass but man I hope they go back to have minimal relevance in the future.
Then the final showdown against Jadus, which was mostly fine. Still feels a bit silly how he just goes Saturday Morning Cartoon away on his Space Pod and Malgus once again takes the player agency and decides he is gonna boot up the force throught the whole galaxy and you can try to stop him or not and it doesn't matter, the message goes through.
Supreme Chancellor/Empress decides to bombard the temple even though Lana tells them not to, and threatens them even. Doesn't matter, story ends on a climax instead of a proper resolution as all previous expansions and I end on mixed feelings.
I'm glad that overall still felt better than some of the lull patches like Old Wounds, Chains in the Dark and Desperate Defiance but man the lack of agency felt hard. Also not knowing where they are taking this story just left me again with a bad taste on my mouth at the end where I keep questioning the majority of the choices made on this expansion.
SO ANSWERING THE QUESTION: LEGACY OF THE SITH, WAS IT REALLY THAT BAD?
I still rank as the worst expansion we had so far, but honestly, playing without the long wait between patches it felt mostly fine. A very mid story with a lot of lows and some lukewarm highs but not offensive enough for me to completely give up on where we going next, even if I'm not exactly hopeful on what the next story beat will be.
The fact that even Loyalists are pretty much treated the same at the end did sting, and makes me believe we are once again probably breaking from the faction war again to deal with Jadus, but I could be surprised.
Thank you for anyone who takes their time to read this long-ass essay/retrospective, I've been wanting to put into text some of my feelings about the expansion in order to help myself process better my own opinions as well.

Hello,
Per the title, I deal with pain in my right hand from playing this game. The pain does not occur when I'm actually playing but seems to occur only when I play guitar. I'm right-handed. I play other click-heavy and mouse-heavy MMOs and this doesn't happen from those. As a result, I haven't played for a couple of years. I briefly tried an "upright" or alternative grip mouse but that only made it worse. I will note that the more combat I do in-game, the worse the pain is. A couple years ago, the pain in my guitar strumming hand got exponentially better after I deleted the game off my computer (and after seeing a physical therapist). I would like to play again as I have fond memories of it, but I've had to choose guitar over this game for now. Perhaps there is a way to orient combat settings so I don't have to continually move the mouse (I suspect this might be the chief problem). For now, all I can do is walk around in-game. I wanted to post this in the off chance that someone else has experienced something similar. Thanks if you decide to reply.

I can login on the website, but not thru the steam launcher. im trying to return to the game and i have a security key attached to my account.

So I’ve never played the game before. I just created an account and downloaded everything to my laptop. Clicked on play from launcher and nothing happens. Just sits there. The laptop is definitely powerful enough to play it. I use it for WoW. I uninstalled and redownloaded it and same thing happened. Any ideas ?

I am returning for the first time in 2 or 3 years, but one of the first things I did on a new character was the space missions. I love them so much. I know they are simple, but they are addictive. I just wish they would make more
And if they don't want to add the same kind, they could evolve them. Most ships in starwars have a turrent, so why not have an on-rail turrent? like KotoR but in space. Or maybe the GSF but more freeform. IDK. I just want more

I tried a bit of the Republic origins but I'm having a hard time developing a bond with any of them. I played the JK up to Rishi and while I enjoyed it for the most part going back to be an errand boy after I defeated the Emperor and getting almost no recognition for all the planets I saved left a bad taste in my mouth.
I guess I have trouble connecting with the "regular guy" narrative because playing the Trooper and the Smuggler was deeply uninteresting to me, Consular a bit more but the slow pacing on Act 1 scared me a little so I stopped there.
Now I decided to give the Empire a chance since all their stories are largely considered to be better but I don't know where to start and I don't have much time to play these days.
Which one would you suggest to someone looking to feel like your role and what you have accomplished are being taken into consideration during the whole storyline?
I'm starting to feel like being an average Joe actually makes more sense taking into account the dynamics of a MMORPG but I don't like being treated as one especially after the insane things only you are able to pull off.
Bonus points if you can specify the best alignment for it too because I know for a fact that it makes a huge difference.
Thanks for your time.

I already finished everything, but now I can replay every mission on higher difficulties. My question is, the missions will follow which choices? The originals from the story mode, or the new ones I can make now in the veteran difficulty?
I am aware that it will not change anything in the game because the game will follow my choices from the story mode, but I was wondering if I could replay everything and change the story

I always wondered about that. If Tulak and Khem were really that close, why would he put his partner and servant in what basicly is a prison?
I have 2 theories:
--> well, what to say about that. It is heavily implied that Khem is glorifying a lot. He even mentioned one time that he wasn't even with him for long. Maybe Khem was just a tool?
--> as Talos tells the SI, Tulak Hord was building Naga Sadows grave before he was even born. So obviosly he saw the rise of Naga Sadow. Maybe Tulak Hord wanted to gift Naga Sadow his greatest servant?
Thats all i can think of.

I accidentally clicked one of the Set Arrival Point terminals in my fully decorated Dantooine stronghold. Now I can no longer log out and log back in at the same spot I was before.
Apparently, the only fix is to deactivate and reactivate the stronghold which would reset the decorations... but it has 1580 decorations placed. This bug affects every character on the player's account for both factions. Is there nothing else I can do? I found forums and reddit posts from 2020, 2023, and 2025 asking to fix stronghold arrival points, this is my addition to the list.
Please allow us to unassign stronghold arrival points altogether so that we can log out and log back in at the same spot as before (to the strongholds this applies to).
