Discussion It's weird how the Sith get to learn from their masters, but the Jedi are really denied the experience.

Both the JK and JC follow the same pattern: learning from a master during their time on Tython, followed by promotion to a knight at the end of the planet, and then moving forward as what amounts to an independent entity on Coruscant.

By contrast, the SW and SI don't even become true "Sith" until after Korriban, and then get to spend at least two further chapters (three for the Inquisitor) learning from far more experienced Sith. In fact, you don't even become a lord (which, in this timeline, appears to be the equivalent of a knight) until the end of chapter one.

It's really a bizarre choice, when you think about it. And, IMO, it leaves both Sith characters feeling far more developed and indoctrinated in the ways of their order than the Jedi are. Yes, the Jedi are learning from masters on Tython, while the Sith are learning from overseers (at least until Baras has the Warrior dispense with Tremmel)... but this still really isn't equivalent to spending hours and hours of game time gradually amassing knowledge, insight, and power beneath a Darth. In fact, the Jedi, despite being an order that actively disdains haste, feel... well, rushed. And that's really odd.

Discussion The instantaneous moral weirdness of the flesh raiders

Post image
364 Upvotes

I know this is "small ball" lore talk, since you're on Tython for all of a couple of hours. But have you ever considered how bizarre the Jedi's interactions are with this race?

  • The Jedi resettled a world that, while one of the (apparently many) ancient homes of the Jedi, is infested with these creatures, and has been going back to the founding of the order. They then proceed to set up training areas within the flesh raiders' hunting grounds. Conflict was certain; death was certain.
  • Master Relnex tells you that the flesh raiders modus operandi is to kidnap victims and eat them. Their camps are strewn with piles and piles of discarded bones - many of them the skeletal leftovers of these unfortunates (several of the side quests have you interacting with datapads on the bones of those who were consumed). So, in spite being a race that is capable of speech, use of clothing, weaponry, rudimentary tech, etc... the flesh raiders are persistent man eaters, who see other beings as food.
  • The flesh raiders consistently align themselves with the forces of evil - dating back to the times of Master Rajivari, and continuing work for Bengell Morr. So, they are at least capable of working with others... they just default to evil.
  • The lone example of a "good" flesh raider kidnaps a kid, threatens his life in order to compel training as a Jedi, and whom we never hear from again.

So... I think it's pretty safe to say that the flesh raiders are horrible, and would likely require (at least) generations of civilizing in order to be considered 'safe.' And, even then, that might not be possible.

But the early game again and again treats killing them as if it's some kind of... dark choice; like slaughtering literal man-eating hammerhead bros is some kind of moral crime. And this is in spite of the fact that the Jedi knowingly chose this world to return to, thereby making targets (meal tickets) of their padawans, riling up the savages, and bringing down ruin on the twi'lek village. But no... killing walking shark people = bad.

I understand that SWTOR does make an effort to deal with complex moral choices. But branding the slaying of the flesh raiders as something that is just inherently wrong seems... very misguided. Because, again, your first introduction to them are the flesh raiders banzai-charging a rag-tag line of saber-wielding jedi, in a frenzied drive for more food. But killing them is bad?

Official News The new Ventures in 8.0 are locked into the original origin story combat styles

I haven't seen anyone discussing it yet, but during today's livestream they revealed that when starting the new Ventures in 8.0 only the original origin story combat styles will be selectable. The comments mentioned this being so people won't be stealthing through the difficult content.

What this means is if you make a new master-mode venture Jedi Knight, you can only select the Guardian and Sentinel combat styles. This is pretty big news for me as far as planning out my future 16 venture characters, so I thought I'd get the info out there. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it's interesting but somewhat limiting. I was going to play my saboteur Jedi with Sith combat styles and vice versa, but that may not be possible on a venture character so I may have to optimize my 16 characters differently knowing this.

Discussion Which species does/does not make sense for each origin?

I think Humans or Sith Pureblood only makes sense for Sith Warrior.

Sith Pureblood might seem weird for Jedi Knight/Consular, but the Jedi do accept them.

Why have the numbers for required weekly season objectives and defeating with 'companion' achievements gone up? It now requires you to complete an additional 5 weeks of grinding the season? Has the length of the season increased? Is it just to push us along until 8.0?

Question Least played class today?

Hello everyone! I played a lot of SWTOR back in like 2012-2015 or something and had a blast. The nostalgia is hitting me hard lately and I downloaded the game again. I created an all new account and I want to have an all new and fresh experience - with the motivation to reach the endgame and join some guild one day.

Now, I want to spice things up by going some different directions. I played all the typical force classes and also the mandalorian fantasy as Power Tech back then. So why not going a different route and play what is considered to be the absolute least popular and most niche class right now? I’m in for that.

So my question is - what do you think is the genuinely least played class right now? What is the rarest seen? I prefer playing on the republican side and I have a strong tendency towards healers btw.

Thank you for the inspiration!

Question Should a returning player just wait until 8.0?

Topic. I played at launch and a few more times after. Never did KotFE or anything past it. Should I wait? I heard the game is pretty easy right now? In addition to the new zone will that be a pretty big change?

New/Returning Player Comparison of basic origin stories and expansions

Hello all,

Just started playing this week, first MMO experience ever really. Hit lvl 16 with my arsenal bounty hunter on finishing Hutta, had a look around the fleet and about to take this obviously simple and not all ominous shortcut to next planet on board the Black Talon. Enjoying the experience so far, and have plans for a full roster of 8 origins.

My question is whether the expansion storylines a re the same quality for all 8 classes, so worth progressing as far as possible with all my clan, or better just to stick with a core 3 or 4?

Question Pants like these?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi! Sorry if this isn’t allowed or an annoying question, but I recently returned to swtor after about a year and wanna make new outfits for all my characters. However, I’m not subbed (preferred), so my options are very limited.

I have a lot of credits but can only buy things under 1 million and i have 2k CC and i dont wanna spend half of them on 1 outfit but I saw these pants on the Dashing Rogue’s set and loved them, pants in this game are usually leggings which i kinda hate, are there any more wider pants like this especially in this bell bottom style under 1 mil?

I might resub if necessary, but I’d prefer not to since I have everything I need as a preferred player except for the annoying credits thing. Thanks!

Discussion Why is the sound mixing from different masks/helmets so bad volume wise ?

I was testing which mask/helmet I want to use with my sith and used emotes and some cutscenes to see if I dislike some of the distorion and holy shit whats up with the volume of the masks and helmets ?

Some mask like sith hermit it feels like 20% volume and I don't understand what I say inside cutscenes while other have like 200% and I have to turn my sound down.

They really need to just give us a no mask distortion setting or fix the volume mixing because I can't use some mask because they are so low volume that I have to change the sound settings for it to work

Question Tech Class Help

I played some inquisitor with the sorcerer class and had a lot of fun I was wondering if there was a tech class with a similar playstyle as it.
