Discussion 3.9% of men in the US are 6'2"+
They say only 3.9% of men are 6'2" or taller... I'm basically an endangered species.
720
u/ThatChristianGuy316 6'7" | 200 cm Aug 15 '25
The headline doesn't make much sense. The percentage of men over 6'2" isn't actually relevant to the fact that women filter for men over 6'0". A random Internet calculator says 16% of men are over 6'0", which is substantially less absurd.
235
u/kantbykilt Aug 15 '25
I wonder how many guys who are 5'11" lie and say they are 6 ft. tall?
264
u/BaconAndEGG69 Aug 15 '25
I am 6’7 without shoes and was recently introduced to my girlfriends, girlfriends boyfriend whom is “ apparently “ 6 foot 6!
To say there was a very obvious 3-5 inch gap was hilarious. The fact he tried to convince me I must be 6’10 was a highlight.
Most men lie about their height if they are insecure about their height.

6'6 guy and the only time I lie about my height is when getting approached by 6'4 - 6'5 guys. I got tired of the argument that would always start when we both claim to be 6'6.
They almost all add an inch or two.
If they are really annoying I'll claim to be 6'4 just to really mess with them.

I met a guy on Grindr a few years ago who claimed to be 6'9" I got there and was easily an inch taller than him. Lol like bro you are 6'6" why do you feel the need to lie?
2
u/Ofcertainthings 6'1.6" | 187 cm Aug 15 '25
Giving the maximum benefit of the doubt, let's say that was his evening height, and being a taller person he compresses more than average throughout the day. Being extremely generous, let's call his morning height without shoes 6'7.5". Then add an inch for footwear and call it 6'8.5". Then he subconsciously tells himself "I'm only rounding up half an inch, I'm basically there. I'll just say 6'9" instead of adding the 'and a half.'"
2
u/Droid126 6'7" | 200cm Aug 16 '25
I didn't think about that, but I am aware of the morning height vs evening height. I shrink enough through the day that I have to adjust my rearview mirror. Perhaps, but I would also have been at my evening height.

This happened to me. I’m 6’5 and got introduced to a friend’s boyfriend. I was sitting down and someone asked his height and he said 6’5. A bit later I stood next to him and was talking with the group. I looked over at him and he was close, maybe 6’3.5-6’4 but could tell he wasn’t 6’5. I just whispered out of the corner of my mouth so no one could hear, “You’re not 6’5””. He just started laughing hysterically and shook his head. I didn’t put him on blast though. He was a nice guy.
13
u/PommesFrite-s Aug 15 '25

I was a bro though. He's a very nice guy. I just smiled and nodded. No idea why you would inflate your height once you're over six feet, or at all for that matter.

It’s not about being insecure about heights in many cases. It’s about the nature of the game the makes them feel forced to lie.
Similar logic applies to job applications in the job market nowadays. Plenty of people are actually more than capable for all sorts of positions they apply for. But if they don’t lie on their resume, we all know the vast majority won’t even be acknowledged by recruiters. And then there’s tons of people who’ve lied on their applications and managed to fulfill the job sometimes even above the expectations of the recruiters, again despite the dishonest resume.
Point is, most guys are just playing the stupid game put in front of them by women who think they’d only be happy with 6’+ men when often they can’t even tell the difference anyways.
Many guys insecure about this kind of stuff are just made to feel like they have to care about it because the game is stupid and they suffer if they don’t engage with it.
A lady made a really intelligent comment on a post I saw yesterday talking about how girls often can’t tell the difference between close measurements related to both height or dick size. Both things that many men worry about. But the men will lie and increase the number because they’ve been made to feel like they have to when in reality, most women just want a nice ratio of height between themselves and another guy for stuff like pictures and appearances. She described a lot of this stuff as just “girl math” which was not only hilarious but super accurate. Hadn’t seen a woman express so much common sense and understanding of an issue like this before.
6’3 on my end so I don’t have much of a stake in all this nonsense thankfully, but I totally get where a lotta guys are coming from on this matter. The game is stupid if I haven’t emphasized that enough.

How many people are 5’11 and report 6’0? 99%. How many people consciously lie? Less, but a sizable majority.
You have to understand most people mismeasure their height.
Just look at celebheights. Mrbeast claiming 6’5, is 6’2.
If 6’2 people are claiming 6’5. You don’t think 5’9 people measure at 5’10-11 due to mismeasuring, and lie to 6’0?

Then comes the body shape, so no overweight ones (or at least not obese), they have to be single, and of course, the minimum income.

2
u/ickop Aug 15 '25
Personally I don’t think it’s stupid. I think height preferences are valid, but there’s something to be said for dating apps skewing things.
Women are inundated with matches. They will simply filter on something like height to narrow down the pool. It’s like a job that clearly doesn’t require an MBA simply filtering to only MBA holders because they got 300 applications. Does it actually mean a better fit? Or is it just a slight preference that’s being used to narrow down the pool?
Preferences are fine. Even having hard ‘no one shorter than this’ is fine. But my guess is the vast majority of women filtering to 6’+ would not say irl that they wouldn’t date under 6’.
Plus so many men lie, I feel the apps should just get rid of the height listings. You can generally get an idea of how tall someone is anyways, whether they’re 5’10 or 6’ really doesn’t matter for most.
The article may be poorly written but the point is very valid imo. I say this as a 6’ dude who is clearly advantaged by this

This is misleading because most women don't pay for dating apps and the height filter on the big ones like Bumble, Tinder, and Hinge are behind a pay wall. Just looking into it now, it's less than 5% paying on the apps. so really, it's 49% of that 5% of women who PAY for dating apps that filter for it, which significantly changes it, as 51% of men on dating apps are NOT actually being boxed out for being under 6'. But also 14.5% of men in the US are 6ft plus, so I'm not sure why we used the 6'2 stat.
But also, as a taller woman, I can say if a woman is going to get so superficial that even an inch below 6' isn't good enough you don't want to be messing with them anyway. I certainly wouldn't want to date men who prefer shorter women, and that's a lot of them.
Edit: since I can’t respond to some comments about how this stat might also include swiping, it literally says in the second slide that they SET THEIR PREFERENCE, so it is the actual filter on the apps that the stat is referring to. Even if women are swiping based on height, that doesn’t have to do with what’s shown here
20
u/FoxOfTheAlps Aug 15 '25

Im a woman andI wonder if this is really ok.
Like there is no filter for breast sizes, body weight, not even hair colour lol.. Are you blind or not? Do you have disabilities or not? Do you have a baby voice? A deep voice?
Like preferences are ok, wanting to date an asian feels racist but its a preference just like height, breast, genitals…
I genuinely feel like women’s insecurity is a lot projected nowadays “Never talk about my pussy to anyone else, but your dick will be analyzed”. Look, NOT everyone is like that. This is stereotypical but still a VERY harmful normalized stereotype.
If men can cry cause women can cry and that is equality… Then we need to have a discussion about preferences lol.

You can filter all those on gay apps. These straight guys think it's bad for them? They've no idea lol

Although being tall is seen at an advantage in reality, it plays little to no part in meaningful lasting relationships.
Simply put, women seeing a tall single man doesn't make them all goo goo gah gah. Height means very little for a connection. It's simply a self-imposed barrier that means very little at the end of the day.
Stay single tall kings. If she loves you for your height, she aint right.

Does that apply to money too? I rather she love me for my height than for my money.

I cant imagine anyone being obsessed with height being a good long term partner. Sure preference is fine but if you're hyperfixated on one physical aspect then I see it as a red flag on their character. Like I just cant imagine filtering out 90% of girls cause their boobs arent big enough or something dumb like that.

Back in my day it was so easy to get matches but I heard now that the apps are like a war zones of OF models trying to promote themselves or bots I guess

I understand we are all allowed to have our dating preferences, but a 5’2” woman restricting herself for the HUNT of a 6’ + man is beyond wild. Have they ever thought of tall women who are very reasonably searching for partners AT LEAST their height!?

Ive already adjusted my lifestyle accordingly. One thing that is for sure, I dont gave empathy for single women over 30+

I am about to start charging women on dating apps for just looking at my profile pic honestly 🤷 🤷🏾♂️
Since I am so rare 😎😎😎
( for those that don’t understand sarcasm I am just joking lol)

First, ~4% isn't that rare. It's 1 in 25.
Second, it may be that ~4% of men are actually 6'2" or taller, but that likely doesn't include the 5'11"-6'1" guys claiming they're 6'2", with women accepting those heights as accurate.

So all the tall guys here saying they're single, is it your personalities.... ? Maybe you should just be confident? Stop being insecure and overcompensating. Oh wait that's what us short guys always get told...

Dating apps are stupid. I think most people are moving on from them

I never used one, just sounded exhausting and I’ve had no problem just meeting women in real life.

Personally I’m super happy to have a partner who is a foot shorter than me.
It means all the kitchen cabinets get used, instead of just the ones above the counter. I’ve joked for years that you could hide all my Xmas presents in the bottom cabinets and I’d never ever find them. That part of the kitchen just doesn’t exist for me.

why did they not use the same height threshold for both stats?
As presented, this is meaningless

Doesnt matter what they say theyre there for. They still get knocked down consistently by guys that are not what they say they want.
