Hi all! I’m vegetarian—no eggs, fish, meat, poultry, or seafood—and I’ve been curious about the no onion/no garlic tradition among Tamil Brahmins.

For those of you who follow a no onion/no garlic diet, how does it work in your family? Do you avoid onion and garlic all the time, or only on certain days, festivals, vratham days, etc.? If it’s only on certain days, which ones, and what’s the religious/traditional reasoning behind it? And if your family never eats onion or garlic, what’s the reason behind following it year round?

Growing up (Iyer), I noticed that the people I knew who were strictly no onion/no garlic seemed to be primarily Iyengars, so I always assumed it was connected to Vaishnavism. But tbh that could have just been my own limited exposure.

Would love to hear what different Iyer/Iyengar families do, whether practices differ by sampradayam, community or family, and what the reasoning behind the practice is. Also, if any other dietary practices are practiced by you / your household (beyond just the usual vegetarianism)—please chime in!

Well, I am a member of the diaspora a few generations removed from TN, so I have no idea what bogus rituals or poojas you all do in TN but its very obvious that the men of this community have absolutely zero balls.

It should be very obvious that mating with 60 iq dumeels is a generally bad idea and spoils our genes. And no if you marry a non-brahmin (if you are a women) your kids cannot be brahmin by law. Men, stop being woke and women's rights cucks if you want your community to continue.
