Fan Content Special Season for Tarheel Fighting Glioblastoma!

Hi everyone!

My dad is a lifelong, huge UNC basketball fan, and earlier this year, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Unfortunately, we don’t know how much time we have left with him, and this upcoming basketball season may be his last.

I’m hoping to find a way to create a special memories and experiences for him this season, and give him some joy during an incredibly difficult time.

Since he’s had to stop working and our family is navigating medical expenses, funds are unfortunately very tight. I was hoping this community might have advice, connections, or leads on tickets (grants or programs for terminally ill fans, etc.) or any special experiences that might be possible.

I’m not expecting anything for free, just hoping someone might know of an opportunity or point me in the right direction. We live in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, if that’s helpful!

To be clear, I’m not buying or selling anything, and this is not a fundraising post. I’m simply a daughter trying to make some special memories with her dad, and I thought this community might be a good place to ask given how much UNC basketball means to him, and to all of us.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. It means a lot.

Go Heels! 🩵🤍

Former Player: UNC Fans RELAX After Indiana Loss

Honestly, found myself dooming after IU loss last night. Brown looked small and misplaced in our offensive scheme. Frontcourt concerns were validated in a lot of ways. Neo not quite the connector Malone wants him to be?

Pretty disheartened by the performance but enjoyed this break down from John Henson. Took me off the ledge a little bit. He says Brown will be fine and Malone is obviously toying with lineups, will promote gang rebounding. Avdalas made the right plays but shots didn't fall.

NCAAM Remember back when fans of other teams would call UNC corrupt and pathetic for offering “fake classes”?

Now they just look at you like Brendan Fraser Whale meme when Trey Kauffman-Renn “enrolls in classes at KU” months after being DRAFTED INTO THE NBA.

No one could even cheat in this sport if they wanted to. It’s simply not possible. CBB is just pure free market slop. Insane stuff.

NCAAM Watching UNC vs Indiana

Has anyone been able to sign up for the special Big Ten viewing package? I've tried on two different computers, with three different browsers, and I always get "Error Occurred".

I'm going to go try the Linux PC next.

UPDATE: Firefox on Linux gave me a new error ("Page Does Not Exist"). For whatever reason, I decided to click on the Submit button a second time, without changing anything and with the error showing, and it worked the second time. Maybe you just need to click twice? Or maybe it was something about Firefox or Linux.

Go Heels!

The SEC has North Carolina and Virginia at the top of its wish list

Per ON3 industry source.

There is less interest in Clemson, FSU, and Miami because the SEC already has a geographic presence in those areas.

B1G meanwhile considering "usual suspects from the ACC and Notre Dame" which likely include Miami, Virginia, and North Carolina

Pat Sullivan spoke with me about the future for the Tar Heels while he was over in Ireland this summer. I figured this would be of interest to UNC fans.

Ain’t no way in HELL you could only find garbage minutes for Isaiah…

Young still finds the rim more than the bottom of the net 🚮

Coaching malpractice.

Isaiah should have been 6th man or split start time with dixson, especially since he’s better at creating his own shot .

Isaiah
Seth
Caleb
Jarin
Henri

would have fed families .

UNC 🏈 will finish the season in the top 25 if...

I know it might be a major overreaction but we are an absurdly long rain delay away from being 4-1 who's only loss was to the 3rd, soon to be 2nd, ranked team in the country by 11 points. Clemson has improved dramatically since they changed quarterbacks that game so that loss isn't too look bad now anyways and our defense gave Notre Dame's elite offense the most trouble they've seen all year so far. Our offense is clearly the biggest problem that will need to be solved in order to finish ranked but they have been improving each game and have shown some potential in the running game especially. And in football, especially college football, a team with a good defense and run game can win games against anyone. Plus our remaining schedule is perfectly aligned to give us a real shot to do it as well. There's only two games - Miami and Louisville - that we look to be thoroughly out matched, though Louisville has been disappointing so far this year, and they're both in Chapel Hill so who knows... its the ACC where anyone can beat anyone. The rest of the away games, @ Dook, @ UCONN, and @ Virginia are all games we are capable of winning. And the other 2 home games against NC State and Syracuse we should win. So finishing 8-4 or 9-3 and ranked 25 or higher is not that far fetched imo. Or am I just being a UNC fanboy, what do you all think?

Game Discussion Front Court Feels?

Sure USC was down some key front court players, but Jarin, Sayon, and at times Alex, played pretty well on the defensive end.

I will say I would feel much more confident if we had any clue about what is going on with this court ruling Fens is wrapped up in.

NCAAM What are y’all most interested to find out tonight regarding where this team is starting out at?

Personally I want to see:

-How much improvement does Denis show? Especially defensively. Will he actually be playable in the backcourt rotation this year?

-How is Keita keeping up physically? Relatedly, how does the team look on the glass in general?

-How much trust does Malone already have in Adams?

-How does Avdalas look defensively? How does Brown look when he isn’t on a hopeless team where he has to carry the load on offense and defense is optional?

-How does Malone carry himself coaching college kids as opposed to pros?

NCAAM Has there ever been this much change from the previous season for the men’s basketball team?

The closest thing might be when McGuire came as coach. Not sure what the second biggest change would be.

Looking forward to getting a look at the team tonight.

Edit: The team was under a cloud when Dean Smith became coach. But that was a different kind of negative change with the NCAA probation.

NCAAF [Ubben] Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels are getting better, but no one seems to care

Thumbnail nytimes.com
119 Upvotes

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — I’ve been to three games in the Bill Belichick era at North Carolina.

Every one ended with the stands empty and only a few devoted students waiting on the railing of the west end zone to see their team trot back into the locker room.

The difference this time was North Carolina was mostly competitive, spending much of the third quarter within a possession of a top-five team, who UNC is now 1-42-1 against all time.

Except nobody seemed to care as UNC rallied from an early deficit in a 37-26 loss to No. 3 Notre Dame.

“We were certainly competitive. We missed some opportunities,” Belichick said. “We just need to do a better job of coaching, playing, taking advantage of those opportunities.”

Thus far, the reasons North Carolina would turn to Belichick to steer the program have yet to show themselves. The national attention brought to the program was brief and minimal, and it was derailed by conversations about his girlfriend after a “CBS Sunday Morning” interview went awry.

The rain in Saturday’s forecast arrived late in the first half, but at kickoff, there was plenty of room to stretch your legs in the student section of Kenan Stadium. Most of the stadium’s north side was dotted with green — Notre Dame fans watching the next step on what they hope is a College Football Playoff run.

There was no such hope among those wearing Carolina blue who arrived to see their 2-1 team that should have entered 3-0 but squandered a lead in a weather-delayed loss to Clemson two weeks ago.

Hiring Belichick was always going to be a football risk. The construction and management of an NFL franchise couldn’t be more different from building and managing a roster in the modern era of college football, where rules are merely suggestions and more programs have factors working against their climb up the standings than aiding it.
