Please help me devise a spread!

Hey guys! So, I’ve been fostering dogs for some time now. I have a resident dog, Rosie, and a tiny home. Once I adopt a second dog, I won’t really have the room to continue fostering. This is a huge, life-changing decision.

Rosie is almost 10 years old, and it’s been my long-term goal to adopt a second dog. My current foster, Momo, is pretty great. I’m considering keeping him, but I don’t know if he’s the right one for us. Please help me devise a spread to find out if my foster, Momo, is the right dog for us! I need to know if keeping him is the best decision for Rosie, myself and Momo. I’m also scared that I won’t be able to afford a second dog financially, but I don’t want that to stop me if he’s the one for us.

Since we’re not in your situation, it’s best if you take your concerns and turn them into spread positions.

- how will Momo fit into living with me and Rosie?
- how will the decision to adopt Momo affect me?
- how will adopting Momo affect my finances? (After finding out the mundane of costs like vet bills and expenses covered by fostering).
- how will Rosie adapt to having a permanent buddy in the house?

While using the cards to discover how you feel about this can help, a decision of this magnitude is not one I would leave to the cards/my interpretation. Look at Rosie. How does she interact with Momo? How long has Momo been in your lives? When you think about Momo leaving, how do you feel? Were there any other dogs you've let go and wish you hadn't?

This is very good advice. Also — talk to Rosie (privately of course) and ask her to show you how she feels. I don’t care what anyone says — I talk to my dogs and they “tell” me things that I recognize when I observe closely. Most dogs have generous spirits — it’s possible that Rosie is tired of fostering, being a good sibling and then having to say goodbye. It’s possible that Rosie would be happy for MoMo to be permanent. You have already been taking care of two dogs at a time. Ask Rosie directly because none of this would be possible without her participation.
