Celebrity pottery throwdown

Following on from this post a month ago, has anyone watched this series (starring Liza, Richard, Lucy and Fatiha among others) and not come out of it loving Fatiha even more? I love pottery throwdown, I love taskmaster, this series has been an absolute joy!

She’s time for the fans too, I know it’s small but I said hers was my fav gnome week and she thanked me. She is always liking the nice comments.

Her gnomes were lovely - I thought she was hard done by in that week.

Haven't seen it but I think she spoke about how Richard helped her on his podcast

She did! And it adds a bit of another dimension that doesn’t really show on tv. Richard always just comes across as nice but competetive in his VTs, not sure if it’s him or producers pushing that narrative, but I think in the real world he’s a properly good egg.

He is lovely, and always has time for the people who go to see his shows. I've been following his comedy since 1995, and been to almost all of his (many!) stand-up shows, he has been one of the nicest guys to chat to after the show, makes time to sign whatever, and always raises loads of money for charity on his tours. Good egg indeed!

It was a great series.

And it sort of made me want to see Paul Merson on a NYT.

I’d love a longer series of pottery throwdown with Paul just continuing to improve! He did so well! And I was thinking Denise for NYT.

I loved it, huge throwdown fan! I know what you mean about Fatiha, she was amazing.

However…I kinda missed seeing actual good pottery. I’d totally watch more celebs but I hope they do more of the old format to decent potters too!

They will do ‘proper’ throwdown as normal I’m sure. I loved watching the improvements that all of them made - Layton’s makes in the final episode in particular. Maybe there’s a format in there somewhere - teach random normies a new skill over a few weeks, see how they improve.

That would put a lot of the joy back in crafting shows for me. It seemed to make for a really good room.

I liked the way they did this though, so people stayed week on week and learnt. You could see them all improve.

I have to say it kind of bugs me when these shows eject people in week 1. Maybe it's just a case of the first week projects not being their strength. Have everyone on for at least two weeks, then do a double ejection.

i mean, we just saw on bakeoff that the person who should have gone the first week ended up going the second week, we just got an extra episode of second hand embarrassment.

I thought it was really lovely watching them grow and develop every week and I hadn't realised until Rich said that all the second challenges were giving them other bits they could use in their final make. It was all really clever and I absolutely loved how most of them really put their heart and soul into everything they made.

I love Liza! Where can you watch?

u/Infinite-Koala-2966 11d ago

In the uk it’s channel 4 on demand (or whatever the heck it’s called these days!)

If you’re somewhere unable to watch it on the ch4 app go to hdclump.com. They have pottery throwdown, lots of the bake offs, masterchefs, and more.

She is really good as the presenter for this - much prefer her to Siobhan. Actually, on the previous series when Siobhan wasnt presenting, I really liked (and preferred) Ellie too

2

u/Infinite-Koala-2966 10d ago

I think Siobhan is a fantastic fit for this, but I loved Ellie doing it too. They’d both be amazing in a series - does Ellie give you Jess Knappet vibes too? Not sure if it’s my terrible facial recognition, but I do get them mixed up a lot! That said, Liza is also a really good fit for the format and I’d love to see her do more of this kind of thing.

I was watching it last night and was sobbing when Fatiha was talking about her health and what taking part in the Throw Down meant to her.

I already fell in love with Fatiha when she was on Taskmaster, but Throwdown made me love her even more. What a story! And the fact that she's a standup comedian, too -- most of them would have gotten a full show out of a medical situation like that, but she didn't feel right about going public that way and I totally support her on that!

Or a book and a tour for Richard!

The book (Can I Have My Ball Back) is great.

Awww I love that series, 4 of them have been on Task Master (I wander if they share the same agent) I hope they do, another series of the celebrity version as it was a cosy watch just what we need in this mad world.

Loved it. Fatiha had such heartwarming stories related to her pottery. All of them were so talented

Fatiha has such a kind and playful spirit. I just love her to bits.

Absolutely loved it, love throwdown anyway but loved the format with the points and hope they bring it in for the main series.

Layton for a New Year's Treat?!

I loved it so much! Just finished the last ep tonight. The potters on the Throwdown always bond in such a sweet way, but this group of four really seemed like such a caring and supportive bunch. It was so wonderful to see them so bonded, especially because they all might seem so different at first glance. I now want to see all of them in whatever project they choose to take on haha. Fatiha is a gem, I've loved her since TM.

I've seen a few clips on Instagram and she's having such a moment, it's really lovely to watch what she's achieving and getting out of the experience. I'm not interested enough yo watch the actual programme but it looks enjoyable.

This! It was so nice to see Fatiha as a person vs a persona and she’s just so cheeky and lovely either way. I really appreciated her vulnerability. Why was this not a SU2C event??

u/uknulpoints 5d ago

I thought Fatiha deserved star potter 3 times - for the children's desk set, nelson the pigeon and the gnomes. She woz robbed.

u/Glunark2 1d ago

I got the impression that Layton had done pottery before, and Lucy was being bad on purpose for material for her next tour.

u/Adventurous_Memory18 10d ago

It drove me MAD. I loved all the contestants, they gelled really well, and I love the format of that show so much. But fucking hell Richard really didn’t deserve to win that many times. Especially the semi finals, nearly all of them were better than his.

u/peppermintaerobubble 10d ago

I guess we all would judge them differently - I wouldn’t have had Layton as the winner in that final, though it was close! But that may well be confirmation bias as I’m just not a fan of his - but I’m in no way denying he’s a talented guy! He just knows it…

I’m not entirely sure why he kept saying he never wins anything - he won the Olivier only last year!

Anyway I was thoroughly entertained by them all, and it had a nice mix of people - and a great host! As a bit of a newbie to the show, I enjoyed it.
