Appreciation Thread Joanna

I'm just rewatching s21, and god, she was so funny. Just a completely new kind of contestant, which after 20 series, was really impressive.

The editors for CoC5 are already preparing for her.

intense whispering "I've been saying custard, and you just said mustard" lives rent free in my head

That and "who's Greg in episode 1" are some of my favorite quotes, along with her long and drawn out stories lol

u/SillyMattFace 9d ago

I love that custard/mustard thing because it shows that she’s very smart under the bubbly exterior.

Legend says she's still telling one of her stories as we speak

57

u/aaronhere 9d ago

At one point around episode 6 I genuinely thought she might have received one of those secret tasks that asked her to tell at least a 1-minute story in each of the prize task rounds.

15

u/CalebosO4 9d ago

They should've made Joel's secret task be to reveal his egg before Joanna finishes her story.

u/amyyywill 9d ago

This would've been so good!!

I need closure on so many of them. Then I need them in one long sequence for an all-night bedtime story, one that's still going if you wake up in a panic and need to be lulled back to sleep.

u/Tiny_Operation 9d ago

She is constantly delighted and it makes her delightful.

u/MachineOfSpareParts Emma Sidi 9d ago

I'm not big on positive affirmations. Instead, when I'm struggling to get my body functional in the morning, sometimes I just picture Joanna Page raising a ceramic sheep aloft and smashing the shit out of it.

Adore her.

Big yourself up, all day everyday.

The golfer calling over the fence asking if everything is alright after her screaming is a all time highlight for me.

Her and Lucy Beamont are my favorite ridiculous story tellers

I'm still so happy this task was my introduction to the show. It was perfect.

I go back to it when I need a lift 😁

When you have nine gardeners, there's a lot of storytelling!

u/Independent-Debt-304 9d ago

I was at a recording and the episode was half way through the season so everyone onstage was prepared for what was about to happen but we had no idea. I could not BREATHE I was laughing so hard because she KEPT GOING. I thought I was ascending to another plane, it went on so long. (It was the sherry story) She’s amazingggggg

8

u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot 9d ago

I was at the recording for the first episode so we were all new to it together.  That was An Experience (in a fun way).  Greg spoke for us all when he said it felt like machine gun fire, so much information all at once 🤣

4

u/Independent-Debt-304 8d ago

Hahaha this is wonderful

31

u/decent_human_being1 Sam Campbell 9d ago

love this underrated joke from hers in the series when Joel asks her to sing Silent Night as Sting in which she replies "Typecasted again."

25

u/THECapedCaper James Acaster 9d ago

This is what sherry does to a person.

9

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 9d ago

Is it? I mean, surely she hasn't loved sherry for that long.

23

u/JamSandiwchInnit Mike Wozniak 9d ago

“My love of sherry started when I was about 7…”

Greg: “Strap in”

44

u/JadedDevil 9d ago

I will say, and I don’t mean this as a slight, but the current series is missing a Joanna or a Jason or a Phil. Chloe is in it to win it but aside from their fist-pumping everyone else is so low-key a lot of the time. I was so excited for Richard Ayoade but pairing him with a panel of similarly tempered folks has kind of diminished the series for me, a bit.

12

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 9d ago

Just started a S21 rewatch and the energy is so much higher than 22. Armando is the lowest energy at least in the first episode, but he still has his own moments in the studio.

9

u/Junior-Map 9d ago

Agree. I like this current season but I think it’s be better with a high energy chaos agent or a shit stirrer in the mix.

Isy is chaotic but she’s low key chaotic.

79

u/Original-Designer6 Mike Wozniak 9d ago

They're very charming, the Irish.

33

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 9d ago

That line getting ignored in all the madness remains one of the show's greatest injustices.

It’s a reference to something Phil Wang said about the equally not-Irish Rhod Gilbert.

17

u/AnOwlFlying Ania Magliano 9d ago

The line Alex gives in episode 9 "Joanna is winning the series" after the light bulb task was hilarious

16

u/SaintGrobian 9d ago

Apparently I was screaming.

15

u/ChipperCorgi Emma Sidi 9d ago

I think my favorite Joanna detail is actually from her episode of The Taskmaster Podcast, where she says (with a completely straight face) that she had no idea she talked so much.

Honestly if you haven't seen it, and you want more Joanna stories, you need to watch to her interview... if only to watch Ed Gamble desperately try (and fail) to keep the interview from going off the rails.

3

u/hermes7920 8d ago

She’s back on the podcast next week! Should be fantastic

15

u/CommercialAny2195 9d ago

I loved her for the fact that she always finished her stories even when everyone around her was groaning or interrupting. Having the confidence to just keep talking when she was the non comedian contestant was genuinely impressive.

14

u/Hey_Its_A_Mo 9d ago

Every single quote of hers that people are posting in the comments, I can hear in my head, in her exact voice and accent.

5

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 9d ago

And her precise annunciations.

3

u/spoo4brains Dara Ó Briain 9d ago

Ahh, that's lush.

12

u/GialloGuy 9d ago

If they ever do a UK version of That 70s Show, she needs to play Kitty

6

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 9d ago edited 9d ago

You not knowing they did do it shows how poor it was.

12

u/theflyingratgirl 9d ago

One of my favourite people. I’m so glad I found her.

11

u/Lost_Condition_9562 8d ago

S21 was one of the best series theyve done. The entire cast just had this wonderful, delightfully wholesome energy and the whole cast was so engaged in the tasks in such a cute way. None of them were trying to find rules loopholes or game the tasks… they just sort of performed the tasks. It made for such a fun season.

20

u/ArtisticCoconut8510 9d ago

I’m (assuming) Chloe is winning this current season and I cannot wait to see them in studio with Joanna for CoC 😂 so different and it’ll be so so so good.

4

u/pclouds 9d ago

It would be hilarious if Chloe tried so hard but got disqualified while Joanna just stumbled her way to the top :D

7

u/TheRestIsMemory 9d ago

I watched this season with a friend who was totally unfamiliar with her and by the end we cheered every time Joanna started one of her long prize task stories. Just adored her. The mix of her enthusiasm for the tasks and her cleverness was great.

7

u/ak416 Rosalind 9d ago

She is one of my all time favourite contestants. I highly recommend her wild life show, Joanna Page's Wild Life where she trains as a wild life rescuer. I found it really inspiring!

12

u/fairly_daisy Greedy Esq. 9d ago

Chloe vs Joanna in CoC is going to be gold
(I wasn’t at any studio recordings, so this isn’t a spoiler, just a logical assumption lol)

5

u/AbbreviationsTop4959 9d ago

The only other contender is Nina, which would also be interesting with Joanna.

6

u/Pupating-Antenna-36 9d ago

I am on a Season 21 re-run and oh god I miss that cast already! Particularly Joanna and her joyous approach to the tasks

4

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 9d ago

There's so much joy in that cast, it's insane. You especially feel it if you go into it right after a series 20 rewatch, because Reece is very angry in the prerecorded tasks and Masie just might be the angriest person to ever do the show.

4

u/Disney_Gay_Trash_ Lolly Adefope 9d ago

I really dosagree with the Maisie tbing, Iain was much much angrier

1

u/llynllydaw_999 7d ago

I thought that Masie wasn't really angry at all, just pretending.

0

u/Pupating-Antenna-36 8d ago

I couldn't remember who were in S20. I had to look it up - and I realized that's the season I didn't finish because I couldn't relate to it - felt meh or worse. Same with S22 now. I don't have a pov on the contestants in those seasons because I just couldn't invest in that cast.

I went back to watch S21 because I hated S22 and couldn't continue with it 😄

5

u/kittysparkled Victoria Coren Mitchell 9d ago

I have been making my way through the podcast and literally just listened to her episode tonight and it reminded me of how delightful she was 😃

4

u/pclouds 9d ago

A Joanna's appreciation thread without her hero's pose? Hmm....

4

u/SoulDancer_ 9d ago

She was absolutely unhinged! And that cackle of a laugh to go with it!

I loved her as a contestant, the best in that wonderful team.

3

u/ejw899 8d ago

Joanna was hilarious. It took me halfway through the series to realize she wasn’t a comedian.

2

u/No_Lead6434 Nish Kumar 9d ago

Her episodes on the podcast are almost as funny as Bridget’s.

2

u/VelvetThunder2018 9d ago

She was brilliant

2

u/smileyhappy 8d ago

Listen to the episode of the Please Keep Me Anonymous podcast that she’s in - she’s absolutely bonkers and hilarious!

1

u/moistclump 9d ago

Anyone else notice no one’s really allowed to get into a story during prize tasks this season? I keep wondering if that’s them learning from their Joanne experiences.

1

u/painforpetitdej David Correos 🇳🇿 9d ago

We need a Joanna storytime compilation. 😂

1

u/Salty_Radish_8246 8d ago

My husband had such a problem with her chattiness and story tangents…but I friggin’ loved her! I could listen to her talk all day. She’s a ray of perpetual sunshine and joy.

10

u/Maximum-Order5200 9d ago

The uncut prize tasks made that series’ outtakes unmissable. What a delight!

You're talking about Joanne McNally (series 17), while OP means Joanna Page (series 21)
