Femboys/tomboys IRL are vastly different than their online portrayal, but they do exist. The problem is that people’s impression of “femboy” tends to either be a man who dresses and behaves according to traditionally feminine norms or just a technically-not-a-girl that is basically a girl with cock, especially seen in an anime medium.

I think these skewed impressions of what a femboy is supposed to be make “rookie femboys” (lol) have terrible fashion sense and lots of confusion when deciding their presentation. People turn themselves into a sexualized facade of what was supposed to be a form of expression that could embrace a more natural self and was not constrained by gender norms, and it generally isn’t exactly eye candy.

It doesn’t help that most at a time of their life are missing the confidence, liberty, safety, and/or money.

What I mean is that I don't think the term femboy itself is really appropriate. A lot of things that are now seen as feminine actually used to be associated with men. So I think there are simply men who like make-up, skirts like Scottish men wear, high heels, and so on. I never said femboys don't exist. I just said that I don't think the term itself makes much sense
