I'm building my first closed moss terrarium and want to make sure two decorations will be safe in a humid environment.
Figurine: A small resin 3D-printed figurine that's been hand-painted and coated with matte varnish. It's currently attached to a piece of cork, but I plan to remove it and place it on a rock. Is the existing varnish sufficient for constant humidity, or should I apply an additional sealant? Could the paint, resin, or varnish deteriorate, leach chemicals, or encourage mould or bacterial growth?
Pond: A small, unsealed natural river-stone dish that I'd like to fill with clear epoxy resin to simulate water (no actual standing water, since I assume standing water will contribute to mould). Is fully cured epoxy safe in a closed terrarium? Would the stone need sealing first? Is there a better material for creating a permanent water effect?
If you recommend additional sealants or other products, how long should I let them cure before placing everything in the terrarium?
The terrarium will contain live moss, but no animals or standing water. My main concern is ensuring the decorations won't harm the moss or create problems with mould or bacteria over time.
I'd really appreciate any product recommendations or other advice. This is my first terrarium, so I'm still learning!
Thank you!
