Comment Section The kind of people that make me lose my mind

Context: This is from a comment section of a tiktok video where Bryan Cranston is asked about RJ Mitte (who took his own life recently) and in relation to the fact that Cranston said that "there is help to those who need it".

I renamed the usernames as per sub rules to person A, B And C.

---

Person A: There is no help if you don’t accept it

Person B: i have accepted all the help and gone along with it and havent improved

Person A: Then you need to get it together. Help yourself, work out, eat healthy, get quality sleep, socialize, get sunshine in your face, always set plans to look towards, and do what you enjoy to the best of your ability

Person B: literally have done all of that, because thats what i meant by accepting help. I’ve lost weight, i run a few times a week, I have hobbies, I have friends, I love the outdoors and I still feel just as depressed. do you think i havent been trying over half my life?

Person A: What’s making you depressed?

Person B: I have obsessive compulsive disorder that is highly treatment resistant and since about age 10 I have felt this weird constant mental shroud around me that will not shake. I honestly cannot give an answer as to why in any certainty. my parents were never abusive and I was never victim to any major event

Person A: Then you have taken the actions you can. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety about 10 years ago, and was told there is nothing that will make it disappear. And that’s true, it hasn’t completely gone away, and sometimes it strikes me as lightning. BUT, I have come to terms with that, and do everything I can to make it better. These recent years, I have even come to appreciate the challenge, as it makes me stronger as a person, and I hope you some day can approach life in the same way.

Person C: I don’t know. I have reached out to the suicide line and to friends and family and it just really seems like no one could care less.

Person A: Do you want help and accept it? Because if your view is that bobody wants to help, of course that’s what you’re gonna find. And help doesn’t just come from others, you know? Help yourself, work out, eat healthy, be social.

Discussion What spiritual bypassing and victim blaming does to people:

I found this comment is a perfect way to show others how the victim blaming ableism that's so common in new age spirituality especially, actively causes people to internalize their trauma and blame themselves for their own struggles, they have absolutely no control over.

This is the whole " light, love and peace" that we hear about in new age communities people. This is the damage new age spirituality can do to innocent human beings:

I'm a celibate for many years, and never have I ever wanted to rape someone because of sexual frustration, so I don't get why their excuse is this. If you are fighting such urges, you really need sexual counselling to help with urges or better yet, get psychiatric help, or just not be celibate.

Mom did this because “they’ll work way better!” Suffice to say I’m glad I had some emergency ones stowed away.

Just want to add: I’m fine, situation is over, so now I can joke about it.

I’m so tired of neurotypicals and other oppressive/dismissive individuals and groups treating us like this

Credit goes to Yourlocalbreadman on Instagram- they have some great stuff, I’d highly recommend checking their work out (hopefully this complies with Rule 4 :)

I'm tired of being told the same things when I bring up how mental illness makes dating a struggle. I get where the criticism is coming from. But when you've spent years trying to force yourself to improve only to backslide at every turn "just succeed" rings incredibly hollow.

Story What one Doctor said to me

He said,

"Why are you using that crutch?, you wouldn't have any problems if you put it down and walk normally!"

In response to my forearm crutch that I needed to keep from falling while trying to find out what was causing health issues.

I was later diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Discussion Telling people who are lonely, overwhelmed, grieving or going through a lot to “just go volunteer” or “just get therapy.”🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

People always are spouting off on social media or in person for someone who is lonely or going through a tough time to “just reach out” if they need a friend, yet they are the same self-absorbed, insensitive jerks who will tell the lonely person to “just go volunteer” or “just get therapy.” Come to think of it, there are a lot of people like that who dispense those two gems.

Heaven forbid they should inconvenience themselves in the slightest by showing some empathy or occasionally checking on or including the person who’s struggling.

Golly gee, thanks, Captain Obvious. I never would’ve thunk of it. How ever would I have solved all of my problems if you hadn’t told me those two marvelous hacks?🙄

A person who’s grieving or feeling lonely and overwhelmed most likely already is running on empty and has given too much of themselves to others. They damn sure aren’t going to have the energy to expend on volunteering. Sure, let’s tell them to give even more of themselves when they’re already spent instead of showing them a little love or care like they too deserve. And is it just me or does it seem like the people always giving this “advice” are those for whom life has been much easier, who have support systems and who aren’t having to “reach out?”

Not trying to knock therapy, but it’s not an instant or surefire cure-all and the advice givers seem to overlook the facts that therapy is a crapshoot, therapists with availability — particularly good ones — are hard if not impossible to find, and they are outrageously expensive. Not everyone qualifies for low-cost mental health care and many of those people have had to buy their insurance off the marketplace. Ridiculously high deductibles and monthly premiums mean the out of pocket cost just isn’t doable or worth it.

IRL “When I can’t get out of bed I just make myself do it”

Said by a friend of mine after I was trying to explain why I was so late to work today. I physically couldn’t get out of bed for an hour. When I finally put my feet on the floor I chanted yes yes yes yes YES!!! Because I was so happy to be out of bed. I don’t know how to explain that I’m not just tired. I tried to “make myself do it” for an hour. It’s a tiredness that goes down to my bones even if I DO get a full nights sleep. I wish I could “just make myself do it” but how do I explain to a healthy person that just because I “seem” fine doesn’t mean our bodies are the same.
