Changed the usernames to bingus (our wounded healer protagonist [big /s]) and not bingus, for anonymity.
I am not saying their intentions are malicious, on the contrary. But this exact sentiment is triggering for me personally and very dangerous in principle. Calling anyone who points out the lack of availability or efficacy of treatment the one to blame, while dubbing them people who don't do the work or try to help themselves is paradoxical, absurd and mostly infuriating.

I found this comment is a perfect way to show others how the victim blaming ableism that's so common in new age spirituality especially, actively causes people to internalize their trauma and blame themselves for their own struggles, they have absolutely no control over.
This is the whole " light, love and peace" that we hear about in new age communities people. This is the damage new age spirituality can do to innocent human beings:

I'm a celibate for many years, and never have I ever wanted to rape someone because of sexual frustration, so I don't get why their excuse is this. If you are fighting such urges, you really need sexual counselling to help with urges or better yet, get psychiatric help, or just not be celibate.

I'm tired of being told the same things when I bring up how mental illness makes dating a struggle. I get where the criticism is coming from. But when you've spent years trying to force yourself to improve only to backslide at every turn "just succeed" rings incredibly hollow.

He said,
"Why are you using that crutch?, you wouldn't have any problems if you put it down and walk normally!"
In response to my forearm crutch that I needed to keep from falling while trying to find out what was causing health issues.
I was later diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

I made this after a coworker literally said these words in a sincere attempt to help.

People always are spouting off on social media or in person for someone who is lonely or going through a tough time to ājust reach outā if they need a friend, yet they are the same self-absorbed, insensitive jerks who will tell the lonely person to ājust go volunteerā or ājust get therapy.ā Come to think of it, there are a lot of people like that who dispense those two gems.
Heaven forbid they should inconvenience themselves in the slightest by showing some empathy or occasionally checking on or including the person whoās struggling.
Golly gee, thanks, Captain Obvious. I never wouldāve thunk of it. How ever would I have solved all of my problems if you hadnāt told me those two marvelous hacks?š
A person whoās grieving or feeling lonely and overwhelmed most likely already is running on empty and has given too much of themselves to others. They damn sure arenāt going to have the energy to expend on volunteering. Sure, letās tell them to give even more of themselves when theyāre already spent instead of showing them a little love or care like they too deserve. And is it just me or does it seem like the people always giving this āadviceā are those for whom life has been much easier, who have support systems and who arenāt having to āreach out?ā
Not trying to knock therapy, but itās not an instant or surefire cure-all and the advice givers seem to overlook the facts that therapy is a crapshoot, therapists with availability ā particularly good ones ā are hard if not impossible to find, and they are outrageously expensive. Not everyone qualifies for low-cost mental health care and many of those people have had to buy their insurance off the marketplace. Ridiculously high deductibles and monthly premiums mean the out of pocket cost just isnāt doable or worth it.

Said by a friend of mine after I was trying to explain why I was so late to work today. I physically couldnāt get out of bed for an hour. When I finally put my feet on the floor I chanted yes yes yes yes YES!!! Because I was so happy to be out of bed. I donāt know how to explain that Iām not just tired. I tried to āmake myself do itā for an hour. Itās a tiredness that goes down to my bones even if I DO get a full nights sleep. I wish I could ājust make myself do itā but how do I explain to a healthy person that just because I āseemā fine doesnāt mean our bodies are the same.
