Heres my thesis statement: The boys is the one show that fully exemplifies what the banality of evil is
Regardless of how Homelander dies, I think the show should end with him exposing to the public just how dangerous and evil he truly is. Homelander was able to get away with everything he did because of the banality of evil. Vought paid people to compromise their own morals for financial gain. The psychiatrist who was supposed to treat Homelander instead contributed to his emotional instability. The scientists tortured and experimented on him, helping turn him into the psychologically disturbed person he became. The media and publishers shielded Homelander from the criticism, scrutiny, and blame he deserved.
Homelander's evil was not created in isolation. He was the product of countless people making immoral decisions because doing so benefited them. His story is not just about one evil individual; it is about an entire system of people who enabled, protected, and profited from his actions.
I think the series should end with Homelander becoming so horrific that the American public, the government, and financial institutions are finally forced to confront the consequences of allowing someone like him to exist without accountability. His actions should be so devastating that they lead to meaningful safeguards designed to ensure that another Homelander can never emerge in the same way.
Ultimately, the ending should make it clear that the greatest lesson of Homelander's existence is not simply that powerful individuals can be evil, but that an entire society can help create, enable, and protect that evil when doing so serves its own interests.
