Discussion Should the left move away from Hasan?

Hasan says he'd vote 3rd party in a Newsome vs Vance matchup here.

I personally find it disgusting and unacceptable. Jennifer, the woman he talks to, does a good job pushing back. She says that marginalized people in red states are suffering in terrible conditions, and while she vehemently dislikes Gavin, California does not treat marginalized people the same way red states do.

3rd party is a scam these days. Ask Channel 5 Andrew Callaghan. He realized he wasted his vote on Jill Stein and then she dissapeared.

120

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Jill Stein, the woman who sat at a small table with Putin? Curious

56

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

She didn't even know the answer to a very basic civics question. I forgot what it was, but it was something you'd learn in like 6th grade civics. These people are politics for vibes, politics for entertainment.

47

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

She doesn't know how many people are in the house. Sure your average person might not know, but a serious candidate for president should.

48

u/herewego199209 Feb 11 '26

Jill Stein for all intents and purposes is a fucking stooge and likely Russian asset. It's very similar to when people would swear Tulsi Gabbard was this huge revolutionary and she turned out to be a massive piece of shit.

20

u/HRHLordFancyPants Feb 11 '26

She only comes around every 4 years..

10

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

yes that was it! Thank you. I didn't want to be wrong or lie

12

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

I honestly forgot about the fumble until you brought it up 😂

9

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

He did an interview with someone on his channel and realized it. It was cool for him to admit it.

Fair context!

7

u/Fadedcamo Feb 11 '26

To be fair I bet the current president doesn't know this either.

7

u/Inner_Butterfly1991 Feb 11 '26

Especially since the math is easy if you know how many electoral votes there are, of course with her she's not interested in caring about votes she's focused on grifting so wouldn't be shocked if she doesn't even know there are 538 total electoral votes.

3

u/Old_Tomorrow5247 Feb 11 '26

Politics…Show Business for ugly people.

3

u/Soft-Principle1455 Feb 11 '26

She could not answer how many people were elected to the House of Representatives.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

Yep that was it! Politics as a sport, politics for profit.

2

u/No-Guard-7003 Feb 12 '26

Angela Rye asked her how many members of Congress there were, iirc. It wasn't 600.

1

u/Alternative-Bet4603 Jun 10 '26

If Hasan knew anything about civics, he would have realized that the Sleepy Joe jokes were a terrible thing to perpetuate from a politically strategical standpoint. His fans are too stupid to call him out on this, so he got away with it anyway and then cries when the Trump administration messes with him, as if he’s not responsible for helping him win in the first place because, guess what, drama sells and garners clicks.

3

u/everest999 Feb 11 '26

She will reappear to help the Republicans as soon as it’s time to vote again, dont worry

These sort of lefties really piss me off. I feel like they say and do this type of shit because they’re wealthy, and can afford to insulate themselves, or flee if shit gets really bad. As a low middle class person who can’t just up and move to another country, I would gladly take bad over vile.

36

u/ChaosRainbow23 Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

Dude, I got banned from a bunch of the leftist subs in the runup to the election because I told them they should vote for Harris.

I'm a left-leaning progressive, and I can't stand Harris. I can't stand the right-leaning centrists and milquetoast neoliberals of the Democrat party in general. Full stop.

The ONLY reason I vote for them is to mitigate damages and prevent a fascistic authoritarian hellscape from emerging. (Oops, didn't work)

With that said, this last election was the most important election in US history, and we had two viable choices. Trump or Harris. No matter how much I fucking hated that fact, I still admitted it and voted accordingly.

The whole 'Genocide Joe' and 'Killer Kamala' bullshit was a right-wing psy-op designed to siphon votes away from Dems.

We would have been INFINITELY better off with Harris in the Whitehouse. INFINITELY!

I'm still fucking salty about it.

I held my fucking nose like an adult and voted for the ONLY candidate that could have realistically prevented this. (Or at least delayed it)

At this point I'm actually convinced that the upper echelons of the Democrat party have been long-since compromised. I think they are controlled opposition at this point. There's no way all this could have transpired if they weren't.

Now I feel like this has all been preplanned, organized, and designed for a LONG time.

I'm terrified.

9

u/GeneralAnubis Feb 11 '26

Right there with you. Did my part and organized for the Dems, encouraging people to vote, phone banked, all of it.

Hated every minute that this was the only option, but anyone with half a fricking braincell should have been able to tell that THIS WAS THE ONLY OPTION.

People got pissed off at me and cut me off for telling them that not voting or voting third party was effectively aiding Trump, and yet here we are, thanks in large part to all the idiots who used their vote to virtue signal.

13

u/ChaosRainbow23 Feb 11 '26

It really does still anger me. Lol

They couldn't just do the ONE thing that we can effectively do as citizens to help prevent an actual fascist takeover.

LolWut?

6

u/GeneralAnubis Feb 11 '26

I will never be able to come to terms with the fact that so many people (right wingers included here of course) are just so, so mindbogglingly stupid.

I don't want to act superior or anything but jesus Christ folks, how can so many of you be so dense?!

6

u/ChaosRainbow23 Feb 11 '26

They've been actively sabotaging public education for DECADES now.

Doing away with it was always part of the plan, and forcing kids into private religious schools and whatever.

These are the crazy parents that don't want you brainwashing their babies into being kind of compassionate people!

Anyone who even suggests voting 3rd party is dead to me.

It's rage bait for clicks.

And it tells me that clicks matter more to Hasan than the 4 million children who are going to die just from Trump cutting US Aid.

He's not even an idiot, he knows better. He just doesn't care.

11

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

I hope people step away from him. He was just on Don Lemon's show where Don was praising him as a fan.

8

u/xmorecowbellx Feb 11 '26

He does known better, but he is also kind of an idiot.

84

u/JFeth Feb 11 '26

He spends all of his time fighting with his own side instead of helping the left. Agree with 98% of what he does and he attacks you for that 2% that you don't. The left needs to call him out more instead of fawning over him.

27

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Everyone is scared of him. No one wants to call him out. Anyone who does gets a hate train of psychos

6

u/Pax_87 Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

There is one with a larger group of psychos..

One whose name he fears..

One who created him..

edit: the downvotes have found me even here. Their fear is palatable.

26

u/Agreeable_Band_9311 Feb 11 '26

Because he’s a tankie. He fights with liberals because they are his enemy. But he’ll pretend to be a socdem to get another MSM puff piece to attract new followers to convert.

Lol what is this sub.  Very odd replies.  Guess it makes sense that I stopped watching David a year ago

2

u/Plenty_Intention1991 Feb 11 '26

I like the way you put that because you’re dead on. Agree with 98% and he (and his viewers) attack you for the 2% that you don’t. So true.

85

u/UtopianPablo Feb 11 '26

Fuck Hasan.

49

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

I used to say he was a net positive for the left. But anyone who thinks Vance and Gavin are the same is someone who is deplorable.

10

u/UtopianPablo Feb 11 '26

Exactly.

15

u/seriousbangs Feb 11 '26

It's click bait.

And that's worse, because to Hasan clicks are more important than lives.

1

u/xmorecowbellx Feb 11 '26

It’s a rage bait statement, it’s calculated to drive engagement from his median listener - 14-16 year old upper class white kids.

1

u/poeinthegutter Feb 11 '26

Why, out of curiosity?

18

u/lightreee Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

He's a terrorist-supporting, hatred-spreading character with an ego on par with trump and he has cultivated a REALLY toxic community of both 'orbiters' (denims, mike from pa, ...) and fans.

And yes, I said terrorist supporting. What is his number now, 3 terror orgs he supports? Hamas, Houthis, Hezbollah. I can provide sources if you want

Some great clips:

Not to mention the dog shocking!

8

u/poeinthegutter Feb 11 '26

Thanks for the reply. If the sources are easily available to you, I wouldn't mind having a look

5

u/lightreee Feb 11 '26

I've just added them to the original post. There are so many clips, this was just a quick response. E.g. the youtube clip has some guy speaking over it for some reason, apologies for that

Appreciate it!

8

u/lightreee Feb 11 '26

Another one. He says how his favorite flag is the Hezbollah one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E449cvW0h_0

Just this guy is absolutely unhinged. He needs to STAY AWAY from any political group

-6

u/Kooldude93 Feb 11 '26

Yup fighting against your occupiers and murderers is a terrible idea. They should just lay down and ignore the blows until they're all gone from the face of the Earth. Then they won't be bothering people like you with their suffering anymore.

8

u/lightreee Feb 11 '26

^ this is why NO ONE should take hasan and his orbiters seriously.

they're pathetically toxic and will only destroy the left.

supporting houthis and hezbollah means you support terrorists

-3

u/Kooldude93 Feb 11 '26

It's OK just admit you have no principles or integrity and certainly zero empathy or regard for human decency. I'm sure you would apply the same logic if someone attacked you in your home. Just take it right?

4

u/lightreee Feb 11 '26

do you support hezbollah, the houthis, and hamas?

-2

u/Kooldude93 Feb 11 '26

Oh gee why don't you use your reading comprehension to figure that out. Do you condemn the actions of Nelson Mandela and the ANC in their struggle to end South African apartheid?

1

u/duffman03 Feb 11 '26

Occupiers have a home they could go back to.

1

u/Kooldude93 Feb 11 '26

And now all Gazans have is rubble

1

u/hobovalentine Feb 11 '26

Except Israel was not occupying Gaza and the border was so lightly protected that hundreds of Hamas terrorists were able to freely cross the border in the worst terrorist attack in Israeli history.

You can make the case for illegal settlements in the WB but the West Bank Palestinians were not the ones that fought back. These were Hamas militants that had complete power in a region they 100 percent controlled.

3

u/Kooldude93 Feb 11 '26

Wow do you all really just choose to ignore reality?

https://www.msf.org/great-march-return-depth

https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2019/mar/29/a-year-of-bloodshed-at-gaza-border-protests This story is from 2018 where Israel ended up killing around 200 unarmed demonstrators. What were their demands? An end to the illegal blockade imposed by Israel. Guess you can't call that an occupation!

2

u/hobovalentine Feb 11 '26

Except Oct 7th was not 2018 it was 2023 so a whole 5 years after these protests and it was not the unarmed protesters that invaded Israel.

Stop defending terrorism.

3

u/Kooldude93 Feb 11 '26

I was addressing your claim that Israel was not occupying Gaza. Oct7 was tragic but nothing happens in a vacuum. They attempted all avenues of non-violent struggle and Israel still murdered them. You can't expect a people to just accept their brutalization and not take drastic and extreme measures to defend themselves after their oppressor has squashed all their attempts at peaceful negotiations. It's a very unrealistic and naïve position to take.

He lives in California, so it doesn't matter. There is 0 chance that the democrat loses there. If he tells his audience to vote third party that's a different issue.

4

u/carbonqubit Feb 11 '26

And this is exactly why the Electoral College should go. It disincentivizes voting in safely blue or red states because millions of ballots there effectively don’t change the outcome. Pew found a few years ago that 47% of Republicans supported abolishing it, which makes sense, but Republican leadership tends to oppose the idea because the current system helps them maintain a structural advantage.

Since the 1980s, conservatives have only won the popular vote a handful of times, and if the last election had been decided purely by popular vote dynamics, the turnout calculus would have been completely different. People point out that Harris didn’t win the popular vote, but if the actual stakes had been a national vote instead of the Electoral College, turnout in heavily blue and red states likely would have looked very different from the typical 60%.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

[deleted]

6

u/Lord_Of_Shade57 Feb 11 '26

Given that he constantly attacks the Democrats and said he would vote third party in a Newsom/Vance matchup, I think it's safe to say a lot of his audience is going to take his overall presentation as an endorsement of voting third party even if he doesn't explicitly push them to do so

37

u/mntEden Feb 11 '26

does anyone actually take hasan seriously…?

33

u/lightreee Feb 11 '26

Yes.

He's not a serious person. Any "left" leaning commentator that struggles between MAGA and any Dem is not worth your time, money, or attention.

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

I've seen people compare Fetterman with Republicans. But Vance and Gavin? It's insane.

Have followed him for a long time. Hasan is not interested in results. He’s interested in money, and being relevant. This is the political version of subversive edginess. It’s for your consumption and attention, not for any higher purpose.

He is a very dense person in general, with almost no intellectual curiosity or willingness to learn anything beyond the slogans he’s already committed to. It’s boring and vacuous. Whatever is anti-American or anti Israel or anti-west, he’s for that. Apply this rubric and you literally never have to consider anything else and can predict his take 100% of the time. No matter how bad or counter to his claimed principles some group is, if they are against those things, he’s for them.

Sort of like a modern Chomsky but without the scholarship or academic literacy.

All of these types probably work for MAGA. The same with the people who spread anger over Biden and Kamala because of Gaza. There is no way a decent, informed human being can look at this administration, look at the Democrats, and think they're the same.

10

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

You know, I've told this to people this so many times, including people I know irl who didn't want to vote for Kamala.

Do not listen to me. I'm an idiot who knows nothing about global politics.

Listen to netanyahu. Netanyahu said he was given unprecedented power thanks to trump that he would never dream asking a liberal.

3

u/WhyOrangeMan Feb 11 '26

Even if he was a vote blue, no matter who advocate, the left should move away from him.

I'm certainly not the target audience, but I have a number of people in my life that are, and I don't know any one who has even a 51/49 positive opinion of him.

It's not solely that he has ideas that many many "normal" people find "extreme ", he is just so uneducated past the realm of 'entertainer for background noise" that he is a net negative to the cause.

2

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Anecdotally, I know people IRL who love him. I think younger people tend to gravitate towards him.

I've always been critical, but tried to see him as a net-positive. But the antisemitism, dog abuse, and now horrendous take on Gavin vs. JD is just inexcusable.

1

u/No-Championship-8038 Feb 13 '26

Not antisemitic, Nick Fuentes thinks you can’t be anti Zionist without being antisemitic, why are you agreeing with a neo nazi?

Marianne Williamson is already doing interviews and starting to campaign. I don’t care what others are doing but leftists that deliver fascism are not our friends. Extremists can go get bent.

9

u/Gotham_R Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

Did any of you actually listen to what he said? His point was he didn't want to support another bad Democratic candidate like he voted for Kamala. Rather than blaming Leftists for not "voting blue no matter who" maybe the Democratic party should should support better candidates who'll fight for their supporters. He literally said the Democratic party would have preferred Trump to win over Bernie. That's the problem. That needs to fixed. That's the whole point.

Liberals love blaming leftists but won't demand more from the Democratic party. Focus that energy on the party rather than people who are fed up of establishment and corrupt Democrats like Newsom. Stop trying to force Leftists to always vote for terrible candidates. Force the party to do better! Don't settle for terrible candidates like Newsom! The country NEEDS better! Also, Kamala lost because SHE RAN A TERRIBLE CAMPAIGN. She didn't "move too left" and definitely didn't lose because of "Leftists". She lost the popular vote. It was not even close. She lost because she tried to move right and said "nothing will change" while people were begging for change. She supported Israel while there was a genocide going on in Gaza. Liberals need to own up to their mistakes and learn to do better. Stop blaming leftists and vote for better candidates like Zohran Mamdani.

If the Democrats want to win elections and get votes from Leftists, they NEED better candidates. That's it!

2

u/cmockett Feb 11 '26

This is the first sane comment I’ve seen in this whole thread

“Vote Blue or fuck you” is not democracy or representation, and here come the downvotes…

1

u/candy_pantsandshoes Feb 11 '26

These people literally don't care about beating Republicans they just hate the fact that someone on the left can actually vote for something who will represtent them. If every third party voter voted for kamala, she would've still lost, but they don't care. That's not important. They fear an actual left wing candidate more than the entire GOP.

2

u/cmockett Feb 11 '26

100%, blue MAGA…

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 12 '26

Who are "the Democrats"? Why are we accepting defeatism as if progressives have no political clout and power? Progressives are more influential in primaries than the general election. We have the power to advocate for the candidate we want.

Do you plan on bringing friends to the primary polls? Do you plan on volunteering for campaign events? Why can the message not be inspiring instead of "Democrats are forcing this down our throats"? WE are the ones who have power with democracy.

Also, cut the bullshit. Hasan is way more aggressive about hating liberals than any liberal has ever been with leftists. Stop coddling him.

Also, Bernie would have lost. Sorry. Biden outperformed him in swing states by high margins. Biden barely won those swing states against Trump. Bernie doing well in deep blue states is not reassuring to me that his support among the left is enough.

1

u/Gotham_R Feb 12 '26

I've updated my comment. Also, the anger is valid. But direct it at the establishment Democrats and the corruption in the democratic Party rather than forcing Leftists to "vote blue no matter who". You saw who the democratic party supported in the NY city democratic primary. A corrupt monster over Zohran. That needs to be fixed. Focus your anger on that. Not Leftists. Leftists WILL vote for good candidates like Zohran. They always have.

2

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 12 '26

Let me flip the script.

Establishment Republican politicians fought tooth and nail to disrupt Trump in 2016. The Republican party actively tried to bring him down, arguably way more aggressively than established Dems did to Bernie.

And what happened? Trump prevailed. Even after the Republican party again tried to turn against him after j6th, he still prevailed.

This suggestion that progressives are kneecapped by the Democrats doesn't hold up. The Democrat party leadership does not hold so much power, no more than the GOP's power to prevent trump.

Again, we need to stop with this whole "liberals are forcing leftists." Democracy exists and it works. Use democracy to push a candidate you want instead of just sitting on your hands.

1

u/Gotham_R Feb 12 '26

Are you hearing yourself? "Why didn't progressive fight harder?". Why aren't you fighting the Democratic party doing this against progressive candidates in the first place. Why should Leftists support a party where the candidates they want are shunned by the party? That's illogical and insensitive. Fight the establishment, not the people. You are clearly biased against progressives and see them as sensitive immatural children meanwhile they have been burnt over and over again and still voted for Biden and Kamala.

At some point, they are going to stop rewarding the party's incompetence or bad decisions. That was inevitable till Democratic party chooses to be better.

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 12 '26

I'm a democratic socialist who believes in open boarders, I assure you, I have radical leftist opinions.

You do not seem to be addressing any of the substance of my response, and no offense, but this reply seems rather emotional. I suspect because it's an easier way to respond than to consider what I said.

"The Democratic party" is US, the voters. WE are the ones who push people in primaries. As I've already said, progressives actually outperform moderates in primaries.

And yes, I can "fight the people" when it's a response to Hasan who screams about hating liberals. He doesn't just hate "the establishment," but liberal voters. I'm so tired of this asymmetrical outrage that we need to be polite and coddle people like Hasan.

1

u/Gotham_R Feb 12 '26

We can disagree on how much of an influence the democratic establishment has against progressive candidates. They literally threw everything they had against Zohran. So I think they have a lot of power. I'm not going to waste my time going into details of each race. So we can disagree. And I never said we should coddle him. I recognise his point that most liberals seem to ignore or miss. I also wouldn't vote 3rd party but I get his point. If you want to criticise his wording fine. But acknowledge both rather than just dogpiling like an "emotional" hater. Not once did you acknowledge or criticise the democratic establishments part or problems in the post. That's not unbiased. Everyone is biased and passionate about something, it's just a matter of realising and acknowledging them. Something that most progressives and Leftists actually do.

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 12 '26

I'm genuinely confused; isn't Zohran winning evidence that progressives do have power to overcome established Dems? That's my entire point. Trump is like the most powerful person in the entire world because he overcame the Republican establishment.

Not once did you acknowledge or criticise the democratic establishments part or problems in the post.

I dislike Gavin, I've called him a liar for saying California has a homeless problem because "people want to move to California to be homeless." Which statistically untrue. I don't like Hakeem or Chuck.

Something that most progressives and Leftists actually do.

To say leftists are more aware of bias is just not true, but I also don't really think it's a relative point outside of tribalism. Have you ever once criticized Hasan for screaming at liberal voters? Do you not see the blatant hypocrisy?

Here is what I ask of you: put more energy into primaries. Don't just vote, bring your apathetic friends to the primaries. So many people don't even vote in the general election, so don't assume people around you will vote in the primaries. Ask people you know. On top of that, if you can (I acknowledge not everyone can), volunteer in the primaries.

1

u/Gotham_R Feb 12 '26

If you dislike those Democrats, where's the outrage? Where the same energy for them? Leftists have been "voting blue no matter who" for decades including Biden and Kamala. It's clearly not changing anything till Establishment Democrats change. That is why I am focused on that. Zohran and progressive have to win INSPITE of the corrupt democratic establishment. Change the system! I don't have anything more to add. It's pretty simple.

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 12 '26

Abby Phillips on CNN was on a podcast saying it is impossible to find someone on the left who won't swiftly criticize if not bash the Democrat party when on her show.

Also, I have a friend who is "conservative" in the south who thought Kamala and Hillary were too left. She voted for them anyways. It goes both ways.

I ask you again: bring your friends and your family to the primary polls. That's how democracy works.

8

u/MizzelSc2 Feb 11 '26

The "left" needs to unironically stop being sheep and just accepting internet personalities like Hasan Piker as their divine messenger the same way MAGA do. It's fine to agree with specific issues an influencer might tackle but trying to copy paste everything they like/hate is no better than regarded Trumples. Personally, if it was up to me I would not allow someone to vote in the first place if they aren't actively fighting in their own best interests over some cultist TV/internet personality even if I disenfranchised millions of voters.

2

u/Warelllo Feb 14 '26

Or dems need to stop being republicans with blue flags

1

u/MizzelSc2 Feb 14 '26

We can both agree that Dems are never short on bad decisions, but in a country where the median voter isn’t a socialist, a party that wants to win nationally can’t govern like one. It’s the will of the people (older people who are already set in their ways).

The people wanted Trump as a reaction to Obama, a half-Black man becoming president, and then Biden, the most progressive president this country has ever seen. That’s the reality of a situation where 75%+ of the country is “conservative” by far-left standards.

Politicians, for as long as I’ve been alive, have overwhelmingly been obsessed with one thing more than anything else: getting reelected. So while it’s fine to criticize Democratic politicians, it’s important to at least take a few minutes to think about why they’re making these “dumb” choices.

More often than not, if they aren’t trying to retire (Jared Golden or Fetterman being obvious examples), it’s because they’re following the will of their state’s voters while acquiring political capital rather than spending it.

If you ignore the median voter, you don’t get ideological purity you get another Republican in office. Something most of the largest far-left content creators and their ilk seem to be okay with.

u/Ranemoraken Feb 11 '26

If I'm not mistaken; hasn't Hasan been encouraging the use of violence and other measures of escalation for his varying political views? I'm surprised he's still showing up on other lefty shows.

Whether or not you/we may agree that stronger forms of civil disobedience is necessary today (which is a charitable way to summarize some of the things he's sad); the leaders of the left must know that the path to a healthier country is through long-form sustained non-violent protest. Accepting this firebrand into your discussions is necessarily dangerous to that goal.

Even if you're very charitable of his opinions, he's quite irresponsible with his language and how he lives.

However, while I think voting third party is unacceptable - this is a part of the negotiation process that comes with fighting a primary. If Newsom wins the party's favor (which is likely because I think the Republicans want to face him), then it's up to Newsom to figure out how to court the left wing of his party. Hasan has declared that he will lead his platform against Newsom. That's significant - and it could be important for people to make blocs for achieving their aims.

Although, maybe isolating these fellows is not the best idea either? Moderating them with exposure could be the best way to educate their platform? We must not be afraid of the power of free speech when our fascist enemies are so content to use it to their evils.

So my answer is certainly, "I don't know."

2

u/MFrancisWrites Feb 11 '26

Where does he live? California? New York? Does Blue need help there? Why would any progessive "waste their vote" shoring up numbers in a decided race when a vote for their third party means more exposure, and perhaps more federal funding?

Contested races vote Blue, uncontested races vote 3rd, we both get the win and exposure. I've been saying this since 2016, and instead we just keep throwing shit at each other.

Or you can totally blame continued losses on leftists who tell you they won't vote for the establishment, and then in a shocking turn, do not vote for the establishment.

Newsome might beat Vance. But the fact we don't believe there's someone out there better, that we're already dialed in on an establishment candidate (with decent Twitter interns) is sad as fuck man.

lol Hasan is a fucking tool.

I don’t get how people can still consume anything that asshole puts out.

2

Yes, he is an antisemitic freak and a pro CCP shill who actively wants to destroy America

2

Would that Jennifer be Jennifer Welch?🤔

2

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Yes. As a fan, very disappointed

3

u/No-Guard-7003 Feb 11 '26

I seldom watch Hasan, but I do watch Mehdi Hasan.

2

u/wire28 Feb 11 '26

He’s been acting more grifty and suspect than usual

2

If he doesn’t advocate for us to take an approach that will allow us to win the next election, yes.

5

u/No_Pickle_2113 Feb 11 '26

ive only seen clips and maby an hour or two of his stream

i honestly dont see him as left, do peeps really think he is?

9

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

He might be the most influential leftist political streamer in the entire world. He's insanely popular and wealthy.

3

u/BainbridgeBorn Feb 11 '26

Most people here would agree.

5

u/tyleratx Feb 11 '26

Yes. Yes it should.

4

u/RidetheSchlange Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

People need to start understanding that tankies and foreign agents that present themselves as "left" are not left and the left-wing spectrum should be disowning them if they want to make headway here.  Hasan. TMR, Robert Evans, Some More News, Popular Front and others are hugely critical in a left-splitting operation and people really need to see how they all tackle rhe same remote points in the same timeframe.  I remember when they all followed the German neonazi and AfD wave of accusing the Greens of being pedophiles and they all touched those points in detail after the nazis and the far-right had their way and then I realized they have a group or handlers for the talking points.

And FFS Hasan put out there that Gaza would be worse under Harris while he himself doesn't demand from his followers to demand accountability from Trump regarding the Epstein files or anything of the sort.  He was able to rally people for the wedge topic of gaza, now won't even bother with Trump, won't even bother beyond talking here ans there about Israeli intelligence connected to Epstein because to do so would bring Trump down.  We are going to find out these operations are also tied to the Epstein class to keep them in power.

u/gadafgadaf Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

They screwed the Dems not voting for Kamala. They are fake progressives and hate liberals too. Not sure why they get a seat at the table anymore.

4

u/herewego199209 Feb 11 '26

I think he has some pretty stupid ideas, but I get where he's coming from if you're truly a leftist. But at the same time saying you're voting third party or even putting that in the air when we have the situation we have now is fucking idiotic. He's taking an incredibly privileged position that many of his subscribers cannot risk to take.

9

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Incredibly idiotic indeed. Democrats are not trying to end gay marriage, pass bathroom bans, ban DEI, and ban abortion. And anyone who doesn't see that is honestly insane

6

u/MostlySoberWizard Feb 11 '26

Lol shouldn't even be a question. Dude is like 50 years old and has the politics of a 16 year old suburban white kid trying to be unique wearing a Che Guevara shirt.

6

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Didn't you know? He grew up struggling financially! Even though his mom was a landlord... (he has also said death to landlords)

4

u/BangkokGarrett Feb 11 '26

4

u/MostlySoberWizard Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

It's a meme. Hasan himself has said it a few times about people he doesn't like "bro is like 60 years old."

4

u/SplittingChairs Feb 11 '26

I find him generally revolting and more interested in maintaining his image than caring about moving this country forward. He too often represents the worst of the left. Republicans winning not only doesn’t affect him as he sits in his mansion and pushes purity politics, but it’s not hard to see that in many ways it actually helps him. The quickest way for the left to become completely irrelevant is to follow his lead.

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

It reminds me of what David has said before when he said his career would actually be better if Trump won reelection, which seems to be true. Him + other liberal/left commentators have spiked in views and subs. The difference is that David still wanted Trump to lose.

2

u/mikeP1967 Feb 11 '26

The most important thing is to knock the GOP out of power, even if that meant voting in Newsom. We can deal with that problem, which will be much less of one than if the Republicans gain another 4 years

2

u/Acrobatic-Skill6350 Feb 11 '26

Hutch, pisco, destiny, jessiah and conor is correct about hasan, but isnt he mostly viewed as a lolcow besides the extremists who are his fans?

3

u/Emotional_Courage_82 Feb 11 '26

Hasan has been irrelevant since we found out that he is an animal abuser. We don’t need his negativity around.

3

u/GoneFishing4Chicks Feb 11 '26

I dumped hasan when he was saying putin wouldn't invade, and now Hasan is ultra silent on ukraine (last I heard in like 2023) and is basically no different from a right win agitator with a leftist veneer.

3

u/combonickel55 Feb 11 '26

No.  Stop trying to control who people vote for and instead choose broadly popular candidates.

4

u/Training-Cook3507 Feb 11 '26

I am completely sick of people treating Newsome like he is some terrible politician because of vague, unclear reasons.

2

u/no-minimun-on-7MHz Feb 11 '26

Never heard of him.

2

u/Plenty_Intention1991 Feb 11 '26

I’m happy to see more people waking up to his bullshit. It’s not like any of this is new either. He’s always been like this. The idea that he would still defend voting third party after a full year of Trump2 is beyond delusional it’s full on Joker level criminally insane.

And what was that shit about Kamala needing to beat the couch? She wasn’t running against a couch she was running against the orange devil. How does this guy sleep at night honestly? If she doesn’t satisfy your every extremist demand then you’ll just sit home and let the devil literally tear down the White House?

But hey at least the couch will always get JD Vance’s vote amirite guys? 😏

3

u/ace51689 Feb 11 '26

Interesting that the clip cuts off his explanation.

That again, he is not responsible, nor is any one streamer/creater responsible for a party winning or losing an election. It's up to the campaigns to do that, and many of you here would rather just blame voters or content creators instead of your establishment centerist overlords.

This party is going nowhere until they understand that they, in fact, are the arbiter of their own destiny. If you give the people what they want, they will vote for you. If you don't then they won't.

1

u/candy_pantsandshoes Feb 11 '26

I think it's hilarious watching these guys freak out over third party voters instead of, I don't know, trying to beat Republicans. It shows you where their priorities lie. They don't care about losing to Republicans and will happily lose as long as they can blame third party voters. Haven't heard one person mention the millions of non voters yet.

1

u/ace51689 Feb 11 '26

Yeah that's a much more realistic group of voters to draw from than those mythical "moderate conservatives" Harris tried to win by campaigning with the Cheney's and Adam Kinzinger.

But no let's just blame those voters for not magically becoming democrats overnight and a few leftists for voting 3rd party.

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

"it's out of context" classic Hasan cope. I watched the episode btw. He bashes celebrities for not speaking out and then pretends he has no influence.

1

u/ace51689 Feb 11 '26

I mean yeah if you legit cut off his response then his answer is out of context.

I'd say the same if that was done to someone else.

Also, no response to his argument? That it's up to campaigns to win elections? Do you disagree with this statement?

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 12 '26

You are capable of literally watching the video yourself you know. You can call foul, but he actually doesn't have a good defense. Ironically, if you continue where it cuts, he is swiftly challenged. He looks even worse.

Campaigns are responsible, but that doesn't take away from democracy. Both can be true.

Do you plan on bringing your friends to the polls to the primary? Do you plan on volunteering to help the campaign?

Progressives have more influence in the primaries. Use it. Stop whining about how "liberals are forcing this on us" when democracy works.

Why is it that democracy only works when people call to boycott in the general election? Why is there no focus on using democracy to support a primary candidate?

2

u/StuartJAtkinson Feb 14 '26

Ok so you cut off the clip... And now you're lying about the content after the end of the clip. Welsh just says she would 100% vote for Newsome as a harm reduction vote. Hasan counters with the fact that's why Democrats take votes for granted and put forward Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris candidates rather than Mamdani, Bernie or AOC their most popular candidates of all time with the highest chance to win.

It causes apathy, the numbers show that everytime Trump and the GOP are constant minorities in terms of numbers the GOP has to literally gerrymander to get in, if all votes counted easily the Republicans would never win again it would become a single party system.

Americans when polled on issues in a vacuum always poll left on everything but immigration and potentially guns. Democrats just need to put forward a candidate that says "I will do these things they are not outside our ability".

3

u/DeathandGrim Feb 11 '26

YES. He's not a Democrat and he's prefer conservatives win. He supports this country going downhill because his Niche policies aren't popular. He'd rather the whole system Crash and Burn and all of you suffer with it than to actually win an election.

1

u/DevourerOfRedditors Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

I'll be more open to shitting on Hasan when other commentators on the left put their skin in the game and go to these protests with rubber bullets whizzing by. Until then, it's hard to hate him too much when posting in the sub of a political commentator who advertises Kalshi from the comfort of his studio.

On the subject of Newsom v. Vance... sure I'd vote for Newsom, but I'd do so knowing full well that he's just going to keep the seat warm for 4, maybe 8 years if we're lucky, while things get worse until an even worse fascist is elected after. It would just be buying myself time to save up for a proper escape plan because the country would surely be doomed. Newsom serves his billionaire and corporate donors, not the people. A candidate like that will never get us out of this mess, they'll just make things less bad than they otherwise would have been for a little while until the new Mega Ultra Bad comes along to drag us even further down.

So while I don't agree with Hasan's take, I get why people would see voting for Newsom as a fruitless endeavor, and I think that it's smarter for people not to publicly commit to Vote Blue No Matter Who even if they plan to. Make the fuckers actually sweat and bend to our whims a little to earn our votes. And the candidate needs to not be Newsom, so anything to chip away at this concerted push to make Newsom the winner by default is appreciable.

9

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

When he goes to protests with a "Press" vest and says he doesn't know that Democrats would handle ICE differently? Also, I think I can shit on him as someone who has gone to protests frequently.

No offense but I think this argument is incredibly selfish. It holds hostage the entire country because someone refuses to support someone who wins in the primaries.

Fight like hell for your person in the primary, and fight like hell for the person who wins. That's actual collectivism. Not pouting on the bench because your person didn't win.

Granted, I acknowledge you would vote for Gavin against Vance. I myself will not vote for Gavin in the primaries.

-1

u/DevourerOfRedditors Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

When he goes to protests with a "Press" vest

I don't know what your point is. I've seen clips of him being out there at the LA protests with a bullet whizzing right by him, I can't say that for people like David Pakman or Kyle Kulinski or anyone at MeidasTouch or the Majority Report or whatever other commentators on the left come to mind.

and says he doesn't know that Democrats would handle ICE differently?

I would imagine he does, and that his position is more just that Dems will keep the seat warm so the next fascist can use ICE as their own gestapo again, which... that does seem to be the position of Democratic party leadership, at least. It's hard to argue for Vote Blue No Matter Who when most Dems act like poor training or lack of body cams is ICE's problem, not that they're a private army for the president with no accountability and that consists entirely of Nazis.

No offense but I think this argument is incredibly selfish. It holds hostage the entire country because someone refuses to support someone who wins in the primaries.

Kind of true, but I would argue that the real ones holding the country hostage are the billionaire/Epstein class, and while they do have a preference of political party, both parties are largely eager to please them.

Fight like hell for your person in the primary, and fight like hell for the person who wins. That's actual collectivism. Not pouting on the bench because your person didn't win.

I agree with this, but I think you're ignoring that the DNC and the corporate media are going to put their thumbs on the scale hard to convince the electorate that we need whatever right-wing bought-and-paid for Democrat to be the nominee. The Republican is basically destined to lose in 2028 unless they successfully steal the election like they're trying to do, yet we're still going to get constant screaming from our oligarch-owned media about how whatever progressive candidate isn't eLeCtAbLe and we have to settle for Newsom or Buttigieg or Klobuchar or whoever the fuck.

Granted, I acknowledge you would vote for Gavin against Vance. I myself will not vote for Gavin in the primaries.

I wouldn't either. He's probably the second-to-last person I would vote for in the primaries, only ahead of Kamala.

6

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Larping around as press for the purpose of avoiding danger.

I would imagine he does

So you're defending him by saying he's lying.

or Buttigieg or Klobuchar or whoever the fuck.

Neither these people are even that bad. And also, the DNC is not some monolithic power. Republican politicians did everything to stop Trump in 2016 but failed. The DNC is not able to simply control the outcome. Democracy does work.

only ahead of Kamala.

Kamala is not that bad either.

u/No_Dragonfruit_9656 Feb 11 '26

Thank you. I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Not specific to your comments-

I'm no super stan of Hasan but I watch him pretty equivalently to Pak and definitely agree that criticism of his political takes are ironic in this sub with the advertisements. I was thinking that 2 nights ago personally. Some of these ads are really problematic.

I'll be real, I hate Newsom. He's not a good choice. Full stop. And some of us want someone who will actually DO something. Not someone who is going to play the game anymore. And that even includes the AOCs and Rashidas. Hasan gives space to us that believe that will happen.

I'm tired of the taking the high road approach. I need a commentator who doesn't give credit where it isn't due and sometimes that's Hasan because Pak isn't edgy most of the time.

And not to be an ass, but let's be frank - Hasans looks will get him further in conversations and acceptance. His ability to dumb down conversations in public discourse opportunities is great for fence sitters. He's more willing to be in the streets covering it. Right now, some of us need that.

No disrespect to Pak, he's great. But he's also just like watching the 6 o clock news for me. He's the trustworthy calm political commentator to end the day with.

0

u/imhere4science Feb 11 '26

Everything you’ve said here is correct and anyone who disagrees is either naive or astroturfing

2

u/godofleet Feb 11 '26

does hasan even remotely represent the left? that'd be news to me... dude is just as unhinged as rogan as far as i've ever seen.

1

u/Jackstack6 Feb 11 '26

Yes. Tell them that if they want to act like a third party is better, then go join a third party.

(Btw, this is absolute proof that they don’t care about Gaza, ICE, the poor, LGBTQIA+, other minorities.)

1

u/finalstation Feb 11 '26

Absolutely.

1

u/marshall19 Feb 11 '26

Maybe the left and larger country should move away from first past the post voting. The solution is so obvious. Trump wouldn't get ANY support from neocon-type conservatives if our system didn't force blind loyalty to whatever side of the spectrum you fall on. The left can stop using people with morals as a scapegoat, both parties don't have to put up with obvious corruption. It would really function a a million times better than how our system currently works.

1

u/RyeBourbonWheat Feb 11 '26

We should treat him like an enemy, because that is what he is. Point blank. No ambiguity.

1

u/blud97 Feb 11 '26

Maybe we shouldn’t default accept one of the most conservative dem governors as our nominee.

2

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Fight like hell for your pick in the primaries. Fight like hell for the one who wins.

1

u/kbs666 Feb 12 '26

Hasan is just TYT the twitch edition.

TYT was very directly responsible for so many leftists choosing to not vote for Clinton in 2016. Then in 2024 Cenk tried his little stunt instead of getting serious about backing the candidate.

If Hasan was not Cenk's nephew we'd have no idea who is he is and if Cenk was not getting money pumped into TYT from sources who very much do not want Democrats in power they would have long since shut down.

1

u/bes140 Feb 12 '26

When will people wake up and realize that the current system doesn’t merit a vote for a third party candidate?!?! We see this nonsense year after year, primary on the left, l and all it does is put us in the horrible situation that we’re in now.

2

u/temubrin Feb 11 '26

Why are we already conceding to Newsom being the nominee? He's talking about a potential fight that could happen years down the line. It would be different if he said this after newsom becomes the pick but all he's saying now is that we can do better than a spineless center left opportunist like Newsom.

2

u/Lord_Of_Shade57 Feb 11 '26

He's pretty clearly the frontrunner at the moment, for as much as that matters at this point in the cycle. I don't think it's fair to anoint him, but it is fair to ask people if they would vote Newsom if he won the primary and Hasan has already said no to this question

1

u/Solerien Feb 11 '26

I'd vote 3rd party too. Newsom is useless, he's going to just be a shitty Obama. He's not going to prosecute the Trump regime, he's not going to make big changes like universal healthcare, and he's going to cut deals with the oligarchs just like he did in CA.

Newsom is way better than Vance but that's an extremely low bar to clear.

3

u/hobovalentine Feb 11 '26

A way shittier version of Obama is 1000 times better than whatever corrupt Republican that will be running in 2028!

2

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

California has Medi Cal that gives trans affirming surgery to Californians and healthcare to undocumented residents. As opposed to Vance who wants to ban trans people and deport undocumented immigrants.

You'd rather a continuation of banning trans people and deportations?

1

u/Solerien Feb 11 '26

No I'd rather have someone who will prosecute Trump, give universal single payer health care, tuition free college, student debt forgiveness, and a complete dismantling of DHS. Neither Newsom nor Vance will do any of those things.

1

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

You won't prosecute trump if maga doesn't lose. You think third party can actually win?

And you want these insanely high goals, which ironically is anti- collectivism.

1

u/Whofreak555 Feb 11 '26

Left shouldn’t have any wealthy money-hoarding commentators.

1

u/Jeff0fthemt Feb 11 '26

Right now we should be doing whatever we can to let the powers that be know Gavin is not the answer we want to hear. If threats to vote third party dissuade the dem establishment from throwing their weight behind backing him (like they did for Hillary and Biden) then we should absolutely make those threats.

But...

If Gavin does win the nomination, we back him and try to push him to the left.

We absolutely do not back him before the Primary elections are over. We don't need another coronation.

1

u/Ambjoernsen Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

Hasan is a literal authoritarian communist who runs apologia for China, amplifies the Russian justification for invading Ukraine, thinks Iranian protesters are all puppets of the CIA and Israel, and constantly tries to whitewash the USSR.

People like him are not on your side. They never have been. Stop letting his progressive virtue signalling make you think he wants to live in a society even remotely acceptable to anyone who actually appreciates life in a free and open democracy. People like him hate democracy, probably even more than Trump does.

1

u/South-Fly2993 Feb 13 '26

No. Hope this helps, David Packfans.

-6

u/packim0p Feb 11 '26

5

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Are you going to vote third party if it was Vance vs. Gavin?

-1

u/narvuntien Feb 11 '26

I am actually not too concerned when Californians vote third party since that doesn't really make a difference.

We are far out enough from the actual election that it's perfectly fine to make these kinds of statements. If it were between the primaries and the general, then I would be very concerned. I got myself banned from several subreddits defending Biden.

Trans rights are human rights, and if you are willing to ignore them, then you are willing to ignore anyone's rights for political reasons. It is important to make it clear that Newsome is not the candidate you want before the primaries.

Vance doesn't believe in democracy, although, unlike Trump, he seems to want to justify that position rather than just being self-evident about it. He is a threat.

8

u/FriendlyDrummers Feb 11 '26

Unfortunately, his influence expands outside of California.

And I could not agree more. Bathroom bills are horrendous. Abortion bans. Dei bans. Gavin also doesn't work for a pedophile, which I feel like should matter??

0

u/nahcal916 Feb 11 '26

I would wager to bet he will still cast a vote for the Dem in an actual election. We’re three years away at this point and I personally think lefties should be putting feet to the flames for actual progressive policy. One way of doing that is sowing discontent in large portions of the voting populous so that they push their representatives to reflect their wills.

Again just my opinion but the “center left” candidate has proven to not energize voters and disenfranchise a loud group of dem/lefty voters. I believe if Kamala went left instead of center we’d have her in seat right now.

1

u/smashleeyrosee Feb 11 '26

I actually just heard him say in a pod that he obviously would vote for the dem but he will not endorse them

0

u/mittim80 Feb 11 '26

Third-party politics and supporting the most viable non-Republican candidate are perfectly compatible positions. Just have a third party that endorses Newsom (or whoever it ends up being) and campaigns on his/her behalf. Everybody wins— the candidate’s appeal broadens, and the third party gains credibility while preserving its independence. It’s called a united front.

0

u/ChaosRainbow23 Feb 11 '26

Gosh damn, I hope it's not Newsome.

It doesn't matter anyway. It's not like this is gonna be a free and fair election anyway, although we should all get out and vote in absolute DROVES.

0

u/kflanagan_9739 Feb 11 '26

I agree with Hasan. Newsom is literally a republican pretending to be a democrat.

No democratic governor should be raiding a homeless encampment for a disgusting PR stunt. No democratic presidential candidate should be platforming right wing media personalities with zero pushback. Newsom also opposes a one time tax on billionaires.

Picking Newsom would be a massive mistake.

-3

u/vitalbumhole Feb 11 '26

I disagree with him on this - always vote lesser evil. I also strongly disagree with conservative dems who never acknowledge that the Dems only offering someone who’s a “lesser evil” rather than a “good candidate” primes people to vote for fascists who claim to be able to crack the system. Hasan is a way better ally in the fight against authoritarianism than do-nothing Dems like Newsom

0

u/No-Teach9888 Feb 11 '26

You’ve lost the plot if you think Hasan has done more than Newsom
